Lectures provide an introduction to key developments and concepts, design strategies, evaluation and applications of commercial software. b. Laboratories provide practical introductory exposure to the different types of software covered in the lectures. Students work through written laboratory exercises with the instructor. Teaching Schedule: Lecture (hr/week): 1 Laboratory (hr/week): 2 Other (please specify) (hr/week): Nil Assessment Tasks/Activities: (designed to assess how well the students achieve the CILOs) Type of assessment tasks/activities % Brief Description of assessment tasks/ activities i. Assignments 60 Assignments require students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the lectures and laboratories to meet the requirements of a practical design task which may require independent research. These should also test student ability to evaluate design in a cultural context, and the software / digital media alternatives. ii. Laboratory Showcase 20 See item b under Teaching and Learning Activities above. The instructor will demonstrate each step in a laboratory exercise and students must complete each step. The instructor will complement each step with guidance and questions as to options, purpose, evaluation and strategy. Students would also be required to compare the design of different cultures and present their design verbally in class. iii. Test 20 The test focuses on assessing students understand on the design concepts, ethical reasoning and developments in digital media. Assessment Schedule (on the basis of Assessment Tasks/ Activities identified above) Examination (%): 0 Duration (Hrs): Coursework (%): 100 Participation (%): 0 Grading Mode: Standard or Pass/Fail* (delete as appropriate)
