Revolution, evolution and innovation? o Three distinct kinds of change (with overlap!) o Revolution is: radical, punctiliar, shifts macro paradigm/worldview o Copernican, Industrial, Russian, Digital... o Evolution is: incremental, gradual, imperceptible o English language, child development, some ecology o Innovation is usually: transformative, initially idiosyncratic (invention or usage) and micro or meso scale o Debit cards, TripAdvisor, creative financial instruments Slide 8 of 20

What is information? o Information is negative entropy (increased order) or a decrease in uncertainty o The needs and the complexity of modern life make greater demands on this process of information than ever before...
