Week 1 (August Week 4 / January Week 3) Monday: Introduction to Woods - Machine & Manufacturing Parent/Guardian Form due Friday Classroom Management Syllabus Goals of the course is for the student to understand measuring, design, plan of procedures, bill of materials, calculation of board foot, calculation of total cost of materials, safety, proper usage and care of hand tools, power tools & machines, steps to squaring a board, fastening parts together with joints, screws, nails, etc., finishing, and responsibilities with safety, care of tools, care of machines, and care of laboratory. Laboratory Safety Measuring Concepts; Imperial (English) System, reading a ruler, 16th and 32nds of an inch for carpenters, 64th and 128th of an inch in decimal form for engineers, fractions, numerators & denominators, simplifying, convert to decimal Assignment: Measuring Worksheet (student has opportunity to improve grade by attempting worksheet again) Wednesday to Friday Laboratory organization and care Safety and demonstration of operating; radial arm saw, jointer, surface planer, table saw, band saw, power miter saw, disk sander, belt sander, drum sander, drill press, router, plunge router, power drills, power sanders, biscuit jointer and reciprocating saw

Week 2 (September Week 1 / January Week 4) Monday & Tuesday Safety and demonstration of operating; radial arm saw, jointer, surface planer, table saw, band saw, power miter saw, disk sander, belt sander, drum sander, drill press, router, plunge router, power drills, power sanders, biscuit jointer and reciprocating saw continued and reviewed. Safety and demonstration of operating; lathe and power miter saw Video: Lathe techniques of stance and movement, gouging, skewing, turning, center work, & face work Design Lesson - Orthographic Worksheet: students will understand drafting techniques to develop an orthographic drawing; types of lines, space, alignment, drafting tools. Students will use guidelines and/or the 45 degree technique to draw object lines for a missing view of a geometric shape. Students will use and/or develop their mental ability for spatial relations. Wednesday Explanation and demonstration of finishing steps; sanding, stamping, staining, clear coat, steel wool, and waxing Safety Test: students must score 90% or better. Student may improve score by retaking test Thursday & Friday Demonstration of hand tools such as drivers, hammers, planers, saws, etc. Objective is for the students to practice using the band saw, sanders, and drill press with a skill assessment project Students will follow a plan of procedures to cut out from a scrap piece of material, a shape from a design assigned by the teacher by cutting, shaping, drilling, and finishing Use finishing Steps to complete the Skill Assessment project The student will stamp their name into the completed project Squaring a Board demonstration while reviewing machine usage.

Week 3 (September Week 2 / February Week 1) Monday Teacher will demonstrate and explain Steps to Square a Board as a review. Students will demonstrate Steps to Square a Board within their first project. Tuesday - Friday Students will begin building Product 1 (Pencil Holder) with scrap wood while following a design and a plan of procedures. Students will use only the table saw, band saw, sanders, and drill press - due by next Students will begin building Product 1 (Playing Card Box) while following a design. Teacher will demonstrate and guide students to prepare material, setup lathe, and lathe usage - due by Students will begin building Product 1 (Night Stand) while following a design and a plan of procedures. Teacher will demonstrate and guide students to prepare material, setup table saw with dado blade, and cutting dados - due in 2 Friday's. Level 4: Students will present a design for approval to begin an independent Product 1

Week 4 (September Week 3 / February Week 2) Monday: Teacher will explain Grading Expectations (see Grade Sheet) Teacher will explain with examples; orthographic designs with total dimensions, bill of materials, plan of procedures, calculation of board foot, and calculations of total material cost. Students will practice calculating board foot and view & draw orthographic sketches on Grade Sheet of their products Monday - Friday Continue to work on Product 1 (Pencil Holder) - due by Continue to work on Product 1 (Playing Card Box).
