Overview: 2 Pet Access Solutions has teamed up with Plexidor Pet Doors to create the new Plexidor Glass Conversion Pet Door. The Plexidor Glass Conversion Pet Door was developed to accommodate homeowners who want to mount a Plexidor pet Door into glass. We have specially designed our new glass mount to simplify the installation process. Our glass conversion doors custom made to fill the void between the 1 3/4 mounting space required for the Plexidor and the thickness of the glass between ¼ inch and 1 ¾ inch.
The Plexidor Advantage 3 The Plexidor Glass Conversion Pet Door will arrive ready to fit perfectly into the new replacement glass for your customer / homeowner. The product has been specially engineered to match the size of the Plexidor Pet Door and thickness of glass for your particular customer. Sizes and colors do not change the glass conversion doors are available for Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large and PDE Electronic Plexidor Pet Doors. They match the color and are available in white, satin or bronze. They look elegant and professional and maintain their decorative appeal year after year!
STEP 1 Determining where the pet door will be installed: Sliding glass patio door or a window that opens and closes NOTE: If you are installing into a fixed frame window that does not include a slider, proceed to STEP 2. Important: Correct location of the pet door is required to ensure operation of the sliding door. The following examples show 4 types of mounting locations. Simply match the drawing to your sliding door. Note: The slider can also go from L to R with the same configurations shown below. LOCATION A: Pet door mounted on the slider panel which is located on the inside of the stationary panel 4 OUTSIDE OF HOME INSIDE OF HOME LOCATION B: Pet door mounted on the slider panel which is located on the outside of the stationary panel OUTSIDE OF HOME INSIDE OF HOME LOCATION C: Pet door mounted on the stationary panel which is located on inside of the slider panel OUTSIDE OF HOME INSIDE OF HOME LOCATION D: Pet door mounted on the stationary panel which is located on outside of the slider panel OUTSIDE OF HOME INSIDE OF HOME
Locations A and C are the ideal and recommended locations for mounting your pet door.. 5 Locations B and D will work provided there is a 1 2 inch gap between the outside panel of glass and the frame of the other panel to allow for the thickness of the lock and interior frame of the Plexidor. (see drawing below) ½ inch gap IMPORTANT: If you have determined that the configuration is either B or D, make sure you measure for the ½ inch gap between the outside panel of glass and the sliding panel. NOTE: About the Small Plexidor Door Unit (Cats up to 24 lbs or Dogs up to 9 lbs) The round locking knob is larger on the Small Plexidor Door Unit. When mounted with the pet door direct to the glass, there may be some interference issues with the sliding door. When choosing the Small Plexidor pet Door (PD GLASS SMALL), we recommend locations A and C. Locations B and D will work but slightly reduces the opening span of the slider. 8 Next take measurements of the glass. Always measure twice. STEP 3 Measuring your existing glass panel where you want the Plexidor Pet Door installed. 1. Width 2. Length 3. Overall thickness of glass Refer to the Plexidor Glass Conversion Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1fzmvd2wi Note: When measuring the existing glass, you will need to get access to the edges of the glass panel. There are 3 common methods depending on how the glass has been mounted into the frame of the door. 1. The most common is glass held in place by glaziers tape or putty. This style has an exterior trim that is removable to expose the glass edges for measurement. Remove the trim and measure the width, height and the overall thickness of the glass. 2. The second type is a four sided frame held together at the corners with screws. This frame will have a rubber gasket around the edge of the glass. Remove the screws and frame and measure the width, height and the overall thickness of the glass. 3. The third style will have a wood, steel or fiberglass door. For Wood: Carefully remove the wood trim from the frame (nails or staples). Measure the width, height and the overall thickness of the glass. For Steel or Fiberglass: Remove the plastic caps and screws that hold the inner and outer plastic frame that sandwiches the glass in the middle. Measure the width, height and the overall thickness of the glass. NOTE: If you encounter a system not described above, contact your local glass company or Pet Access Solutions.
9 STEP 4 Ordering the new unit of replacement tempered safety glass 1. Locate a local glass supplier who can supply the glass required for this installation. If you have trouble locating a supplier, contact Pet Access Solutions and we will assist you or supply you with the replacement glass. 2. We recommend a minimum 3/16 inch (4mm) glass be used for double paned units and 1/4 inch (5mm) minimum for single paned units. 3. Based on the size Plexidor Pet Door you have chosen for the customer (based on dog size) below is the cut hole size required in the glass. IMPORTANT: These cut hole sizes are to be followed exactly when ordering glass. Small Cut hole size: 9 Wide x 8 ¾ High Medium Cut hole size: 12 ¾ Wide x 13 ¾ High Large Cut hole size: 15 ½ Wide x 18 High XL Cut hole size: 19 ¼ Wide x 25 ½ High Electronic Cut hole size: 14 ¼ Wide x 21 ½ High These cut hole sizes above include the allowances needed to mount the Plexidor Pet Door. There are no additional holes required only the cut hole size listed above. 10 Congratulations! You have ordered the Plexidor Glass Conversion Door and replacement glass. Check with your local glass supplier on how long it will take to prepare the new tempered replacement safety glass. This takes 1 to 2 weeks. The Plexidor Glass Conversion Door will take about the same amount of time to arrive to you. Once you have the glass and the door, you re ready to proceed to STEP 5! STEP 5 Install Plexidor into New Glass Installing your new Plexidor Pet Door with Glass Conversion Door Once you open your box and remove your pet door you will find that the glass conversion door is ready to be installed into your new tempered safety glass panel. 1. Place the new unit of glass onto a flat surface and position the end with the cut hole extended over the end of the table making sure it doesn t fall off. 2. Test fit the pet door with springs at the top. When test fitting the pet door, look through the holes where the side trim bolts go through to make sure you have the pet door centered and there is no glass obstructing the access. Using the key, lock and unlock the door to ensure the lock works smoothly. 3. Place the pet door into the cut hole making sure it is centered and squared. Now place a strip of painters tape on 2 sides of the door to act as a guide. This will make it easy to see where the door needs to line up with when you are placing the pet door in for the final time. Using the tape as a guide, check again to ensure the door is straight and centered into the cut opening.
4. Now remove the backing on the double sided tape on the interior trim of the glass conversion door and place the pet door back into the cut opening. Press the pet door down firmly with one hand on top and one hand underneath to support the pressure. Carefully flip the glass unit over with the pet door stuck to the glass. 11 5. Caulk the edge of the pet door that the trim fits against. Next remove the backing on the double sided tape on the exterior trim and use the four 2 inch machine screws to join the interior frame to the exterior frame pieces. The screws will thread into inserts, the inserts should point inwards. Tighten loosely. 6. Make sure the square edge of the exterior sides and exterior bottom trim face against the pet door. Tighten but do not over tighten screws. 7. Test pet door for free movement and full locking, unlocking function and key removal in both positions. 8. Complete the exterior trim by installing top exterior frame.
12 Congratulations! You ve completed the install of the Plexidor into the glass surface. STEP 6 Mount the new glass back into the sliding glass door frame 1. Trim and glaziers putty (or tape) In some cases you will have to remove the patio door slider by adjusting the runner wheels up on the slider. Then lift the slider out of the track. This will give you full access to either the stationary side or the slider if needed. Start by removing the trim as you did when you measured the panel of glass then double check the measurements to confirm your new panel of glass will fit. Using a sharp blade knife cut the glaziers putty (or tape) which hold the glass in the frame and creates the seal. Clean the old putty (or tape) from the frame of the window to allow a clean surface then apply the new putty or tape. Next, install the new glass panel into the frame and reinstall the trim. Clean the glass. 2. Frame and gasket Remove the slider from the window and then remove the screws and frame as you did during measuring. Place the gasket onto the new glass and then reinstall frame onto the glass remembering where your top, bottom and side pieces went. Next, reinstall into the window and clean the glass. 3. French style house door The third style will have a wood, steel or fiberglass door. For Wood: Carefully remove the wood trim from the frame (nails or staples). Cut the glaziers putty (or tape) with a sharp knife and remove glass. Clean up the frame and apply new Glaziers putty (or tape). Install new glass panel and reinstall trim and clean the glass. For Steel or Fiberglass: Remove the plastic caps and screws that hold the inner and outer plastic frame that sandwiches the glass in the middle. Cut any glaziers putty or tape and remove the glass. Clean the frame and reapply the putty or tape. Next, fit the new glass panel and then screw the trim back in place. Finish by cleaning the glass. Congratulations! Job Well Done!
