Mark van Berkel President and Chief Executive Officer Mark van Berkel is president and chief executive officer of TrueNorth Avionics, leading the company s strategy and overall direction. A cofounder of the company, van Berkel is a licensed pilot, and has more than 20 years of experience in the avionics industry. Before founding TrueNorth, Mark held senior positions in the aviation business at EMS Technologies, now part of Honeywell, and at Transport Canada s Aircraft Services Directorate. With a deep interest in both the technology and usability of airborne communications systems, Mark s vision for the company is to continue building products for the connected aircraft that allow owners and operators to be more productive. An early entrant into the world of airborne communications, Mark s desire to build systems that are reliable, and his deep knowledge of both the technical and certification requirements of avionics systems have helped grow TrueNorth into a leading supplier of systems to VIP aircraft and more recently avionics OEMs. Mark has taken a fresh look at implementing airborne communications. This development of new and exciting solutions continues to push the company forward. A proponent that technology must function as expected, he also recognizes that style and integrating systems into the cabin are important to aircraft owners and operators. Terry Markovich Chief Technology Officer Terry Markovich is TrueNorth s chief technology officer, and one of the founding visionaries behind the company s Simphonē OpenCabin solutions. Terry has more than 30 years of avionics engineering and technical experience, including work with Atlantic Aviation, and Duncan Aviation as an avionics facility manager. Terry s broad experience and deep knowledge of avionics and the aviation industry have been pivotal to TrueNorth s widely successful connectivity solutions. He is passionate about developing products with features that in his experience are in demand in the aviation market. A licensed pilot of two years, Terry has a solid understanding of what owners and aircraft operators need in communication systems. Having installed myriad of connectivity systems on aircraft, he believes that products should be easy to understand, install and configure, which is why we designed TrueNorth s system from the ground-up and with installers, operators and passengers in mind. 2
Bonnie Wright, CPA, CA, PAdm Chief Financial Officer Bonnie Wright is TrueNorth s chief financial officer, reporting to the CEO. In her role as CFO, Bonnie oversees the company s financial reporting, system design, and fundraising. Also a Chartered Secretary, she started her career at a chartered accounting firm, and brings nearly 30 years of experience in senior financial roles in the high tech industry to her role at TrueNorth. Bonnie possesses a deep understanding of the technology landscape, and the many stages of a company s growth having held previous positions at TMI Communications, BIO LOGICALS and Atsana Semiconductor, and as a venture capitalist with Working Ventures Canadian Fund. Bonnie joined TrueNorth in early 2011, and has since developed the metrics and systems that continue to help the company manage its growth and affect its financial performance rather than simply reacting. With a passion for instilling a solid understanding of the company s financial status in the management team Bonnie understands that developing effective reporting is key to building the business, I look forward to the day when a majority of business aircraft will have our systems on them. 3
Steve Newell Chief Commercial Officer Stephen Newell heads TrueNorth s new business and channel development programs. Reporting to the company s CEO, Steve has more than 25 years of experience in the satellite and mobile communications industries. Before joining TrueNorth, he held executive positions as president and CEO of MissionMobility, a portfolio company of the White Oak Group and as vice president and general manager of LXE, the mobile computer business of EMS Technologies, prior to its acquisition by Honeywell. Steve held a variety of positions within EMS Technologies, including as vice president of sales for the SATCOM Division. With a deep technical knowledge and business acumen, Steve helps companies develop unique and visionary partnerships. A submariner early in his career, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science. Having seen the evolution of satellite and mobile communications technology, he has a great enthusiasm for solutions at the forefront of technology, that redefine human interactions; like the systems we re developing at TrueNorth. 4
Gerry Wall Chief Operating Officer Gerry Wall is TrueNorth s chief operating officer, responsible for company-wide operations and product quality. Reporting to the CEO, he joined the company in 2009 and brings more than 35 years of experience in aerospace and avionics, including roles with the UK Cabinet Office, serving in the Royal Air Force, and as vice president of service delivery at Mxi Technologies. Early in his career he developed acumen for bringing people and resources together to get things done; surprising even the most seasoned team. In his role as COO, at TrueNorth, this experience has helped the company to deliver the highest quality solutions to its customers. His broad skills in business, operations, and procurement along with his technical insight are key factors in the company s continued growth. Gerry s in-depth understanding of complex projects and planning have helped to build the company s reputation as a key solutions provider to VVIP aircraft owners and operators, globally. Gerry holds a BSc in Aerodynamics from the City University, London, an MA in Procurement, Kings College, London England, and an MBA from Durham University, England. He is a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institute of Engineering Technology and a Project Management Professional. 5
Chris Bartlett VP, Business Development Chris Bartlett is TrueNorth's vice president of business development, responsible for finding and building new business opportunities, as well as growing relationships with strategic partners. Reporting to the CCO, Chris has 20 years of commercial account management experience in the specialized-manufacturing field. His in-depth business systems knowledge helps him to understand customer needs, turn concepts into reality, and provide valuedriven solutions. Chris joined TrueNorth in 2012 as director of product management and became director, key accounts in 2014. In this capacity, Chris was part of the team that launched the company's new generation of handsets and cabin gateway products. Before coming to work at TrueNorth, Chris held a number of leadership positions at industry leading companies. While at Sanmina, a global manufacturing services provider, he managed the successful launch of a commercial management strategy covering the full scope of profitability, forecasting and metrics. While at Magna International, a Canadian automotive supplier, he managed A2LA (American Association For Laboratory Accreditation) certified test facilities across three geographical locations. This is where he gained extensive experience on meeting government and industry regulatory requirements. A key part of the product development team at Magna, Chris led the development of multiple patents that improve product reliability and efficiency for the automotive industry. An entrepreneur at heart, Chris is able to establish and execute growth strategies, We re taking our expertise with business aviation communications systems and applying them to products our OEM partners demand. Chris holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK. 6
Colette Morrissette VP, Administration & Financial Services Colette Morrissette leads TrueNorth s administration and financial services group, and is responsible for ensuring the company s timely delivery of its market leading solutions to its customers. Reporting to the CFO, she has nearly 10 years of experience in the aviation industry and has held positions with various small- and medium-sized enterprises in the Ottawa Area. Before joining TrueNorth in 2007, with a background in oil and gas business management, Colette worked in a broad range of industry sectors including insurance, legal and education. In her role, Colette touches many facets of the company; working with the sales team on order fulfillment, the marketing team on product customization, and ultimately ensuring the customer receives their communication systems. Her attention to detail, rich management and organizational skills are important as the company continues to grow. We ve grown exponentially over the last ten years and demand for our products continues to expand. It takes a team effort to deliver products to our customers doing this is both challenging and gratifying. Colette studied business administration with a focus on petroleum at Mount Royal University, in Calgary, Canada. 7
Kate Murchison Vice President, Marketing Kate Murchison is TrueNorth s vice president of marketing, responsible for the company s global communications, branding and marketing programs. She joined the company in 2012 with 18 years of experience in technology marketing. Over seven years at EMS Aviation, she directed marketing programs and international media outreach. She has led a variety of teams, developing successful strategic marketing and communications programs in the semiconductor and software industries. We ve seen a lot of change in the aviation connectivity industry, and telling TrueNorth s story is an exciting opportunity to present the best in business aviation communications. In her senior leadership role, Kate s creative vision and program delivery have helped to build the company s reputation as a key solutions provider to VIP aircraft owners and operators, globally.
