General Rules Eligibility: Only residents of Palo Pinto County or students enrolled in a Palo Pinto County School are eligible to enter as many classes as desired. All entries must have been completed since last year s Palo Pinto County Fair. No entries previously entered in the Palo Pinto County Fair will be accepted. Registration and Entry Fee: A $1.00 entry fee will be charged for each entry in the show. Entries must be brought to the Palo Pinto County Fair on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 2:00 PM -8:00 PM. Entry cards must be completed at that time and entry fee paid. No entry fees will be refunded. These funds are used to partially defray expenses of the show. Number of Entries: In most cases, a person may enter three (3) items per class. See individual divisions for exceptions. As stated, each item entered requires a separate entry card. Sets may be entered in a class but the number of articles per set is limited to four (4) articles. Kiddies 2 nd grade & under / Red Card Elementary 3 rd - 5 th grades / Green Card Junior 6 th 8 th grades / Yellow Card Senior 9 th 12 th grades / Pink Card Adult Blue Card Entry Requirements: All entries must be clean, neat, and in excellent condition. Superintendents will not accept items that do not meet these requirements. Most divisions have special requirements. Some precautions will be taken to protect entries. The Fair Board and Volunteers assume no responsibility for damage or loss of entries. Prizes: Entries in each class will be placed 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th with all other entries receiving a ribbon for participation. Judges will also award Grand & Reserve Champion Rosettes when appropriate. Prize money will be awarded to Grand and Reserve Champions in Elementary, Junior, and Senior Divisions. Checks should be mailed within one month of the fair. All checks will be void within 60 days of the date written. Judges decisions are final. Awards for the Kiddies Division will be grouped into categories by the Superintendent. Each entry in the Kiddies Division will receive a ribbon. All rules are subject to changes by the Executive Board as deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the Palo Pinto County Fair. The Palo Pinto County Fair will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any item, exhibitor or spectator at the Palo Pinto County Fair. Fair Divisions. Baked Goods and Candy 1. REFRIGERATED BAKED GOODS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 2. All entries should be displayed on disposable trays, plates, pans or covered firm cardboard. 3. All entries must be covered with clear plastic wrap or in a zip lock bag. 4. The recipe(s) must accompany all entries. For purposes of anonymity while judging, all recipes should be printed/written on single-sided sheets of paper with the exhibitor s name on the back of recipes, ONLY. 5. No items will be sold in the Country Store. Baked items not pick up will be discarded. Breads: Loaf Breads entered in Classes A-E should have a slice pre-cut by the exhibitor prior to entry. Leave the piece in place for the judges to taste. Class A: Bread Machine-made Loaf Class B: Yeast Bread Rolls/Loaf Class C: Sweet Yeast Bread Rolls/Loaf Class D: Quick Bread Muffins/Loaf Class E: Other Breads (Can include gluten free and sugar free recipes.) Cakes: Cakes entered in Classes F-K should have a slice pre-cut by the exhibitor prior to entry. Leave the piece in place for the judges to taste. Class L should NOT be cut. To be entered in this class the cake must be decorated using tips designed for cake decorating. This class is not for cakes decorated by garnishing. Cakes decorated by garnishes should be entered in Other Cakes. Class F: Bundt Cakes Class G: Cake Mix Plus (other ingredients)/cupcakes Class H: Layer Cakes Class I: Sheet Cake from Scratch Class J: Sponge Cakes Class K: Class L: Cookies: Class M: Class N: Class O: Other Cakes/Cupcakes (Includes garnished cakes. Can also include gluten and sugar free recipes.) Decorated Cakes/Cupcakes ( cake decorator tips used, actual cake should be decorated, no forms or pans) SIX (6) COOKIES SHOULD BE DISPLAYED Bar Cookies Cookies Other (can include gluten free and sugar free recipes) Pies: Pies entered in Classes O-Q should have a slice pre-cut by the exhibitor prior to entry. Class P: Fruit Pies/Cobblers Class Q: Nut Pies Class R: Other Pies (No cream, custard or frozen pies. Can include gluten free and sugar free recipes.). Canned Goods 1. Entries should be labeled with contents and date of processing (i.e. Apricot preserves & processing date) 2. Any jar not sealed will be disqualified. 3. Jars should have a ring in place 4. Jars with rusted lids or rings will be disqualified. 5. Item in non-standard jars will not be judged. A standard jar has the manufacturer s name embossed on the jar. 6. Items will not be opened by judges. 7. For judging purposes, non-decorative jars are recommended. A child may enter anything they have made themselves. The items may have been made while participating in group activities (Vacation Bible School, Scouts, etc.) if the child made the item. Each item entered will receive a participation ribbon. The superintendent will have authority to group similar items for judging purposes. Judges decisions will be final. 10
