The purpose of this little book is to help you organise and run your event smoothly, so you can raise as much money as possible. Also, it gives you some important information on paying in the money you collect, as well as the do s and don ts of fundraising safely and legally. Don t forget to read all this important stuff, but then fold out this booklet to find your BBC Children in Need planner!
The Do list Do please help The money you raise for BBC Children in Need really does makes a huge difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK, so please Do all that you can to help. A little really does go a long way! It could be anything you like, big or small, whatever you do will make a real difference. So, try to think of something fun for everyone to take part in or watch, and most importantly something that makes it easy to raise lots of money for BBC Children in Need! Do tell the world Do tell us what you re doing to raise money at bbc.co.uk/pudsey Your local newspaper is always looking for fun stories, so tell them what you ve got planned. You can use the press release forms on bbc.co.uk/pudsey When your story is in the papers, get it onto the radio next! Contact bbc.co.uk/whereilive to find your nearest local BBC station. Do please sponsor me Getting sponsored for something, whether it s a run, walk, hop or head shave, is one of the best and most fun ways of raising money. If you re going to get sponsored please use the sponsorship form in this pack and don t forget to get all your friends and family to put their name down. Every penny you collect counts! Remember that every single penny you collect counts so don t forget to have a collection jar at your event. Collection box templates are available to download at bbc.co.uk/pudsey Do spread the word Don t be shy, if your event is going to work people need to know about it. So get out there and get poster-ing, get flyer-ing, spread the word and let people know what you re doing, where and when. Ask your local shop, library, supermarket, or hairdressers to display your posters. You ll find a poster in this pack and you can download more at bbc.co.uk/pudsey
Better to be safe than sorry! Do it safely Do get sponsored by people you know and trust. Do make sure that children are supervised and DON T let them collect money from strangers. Do make sure your venue is safe and don t forget crowd control. Do think about security if you re carrying money around. Remember The safest way is to pay it in straight away. The BBC Children in Need Appeal cannot accept liability for your event. If you think you need insurance you will need to take it out yourself. Pudsey says Always be safe! Do it legally Do not do house-to-house collections. They are illegal without a local authority licence. If you are thinking of holding a Raffle, check the rules with your local authority or the Gambling Commission first. If your event or activity is on private property, remember to ask permission from the owner. Do not collect money in the street without a licence from your local authority or the police. We recommend you hold a fundraising event rather than a collection. Businesses are required by charity law to have written agreement with us if they plan to sell goods, services or run business promotions for the Appeal. Please pay the money in as soon as possible because the sooner it goes in the sooner we can start doing great things with it! Online By credit card/debit card online. Send a cheque, postal order or CAF voucher to: BBC Children in Need Appeal, PO Box 1000, London W12 7WJ. All cheques, postal orders or CAF vouchers should be made payable to BBC Children in Need Appeal. At any bank: Use the BBC Children in Need Appeal Paying-in Slip enclosed with your Fundraising Pack or ask for one at the branch. Most banks will accept the money you have collected for the BBC Children in Need Appeal for a month or two after the Appeal and HSBC will accept it all year round. (Banks like it best when you sort your coins into separate bags before you hand in your money. Don t worry the banks will provide the bags!)
