Corporate Profile 2018

No dream, no success. Live up to the principles The global economy is largely expected to grow steadily. However, trade and economic policies seem increasingly geared toward protectionism in some quarters of the world, while geopolitical risks are rising. Some countries are starting to tighten their monetary policies. Among others, these factors could put a damper on global affairs. The trend of businesses seamlessly merging across industries will inevitably accelerate in a wide range of fields and industries due to drastic changes brought on by the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and other related technological innovations that are hallmarks of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Under these circumstances, which are marked by uncertainty, it is strongly required for ourselves to enhance an ability to look ahead and create new value so as to cope with these changing times. Since its foundation in 1919, the Sumitomo Corporation Group has made steady growth together with stakeholders such as business partners and clients across industries all over the world, while enhancing its ability to create new value through all alliances and collaboration that transcend industrial and organizational barriers. We will work hand-in-hand to enrich not only our lives but also others. Through our business, we will strive to make our society more exciting. Our challenges and dreams will ever go on. The Sumitomo Corporation Group will tackle social issues by staying a step ahead in dealing with change to create new value. It will also demonstrate unprecedented strength by leveraging innovative technologies and concentrate its management resources on operations that benefit society and our company simultaneously. Tradition and innovation. Stability and dynamism. Common sense and senselessness. These pairs of words seem contradictory, but we must constantly compare and examine them so we can protect what should be protected and change what should be changed. The Sumitomo Corporation Group will do this in a way befitting the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and pursue change in every possible domain without creating exceptions. No dream, no success. Aim high, act on the principles and execute. The Sumitomo Corporation Group will act as one in unceasing challenges for the new value creation to realize our dreams. We will continue to move forward. Shape the future, staying ahead. Masayuki Hyodo President and Chief Executive Officer SC Corporate Profile 2018 3
