RESERCH ON PRODUCT INNOVTIVE DESIGN METHOD DRIVEN BY CLIENT DEMNDS Liin Li, Guiqin Li, Shi'an Huang Center of CIMS and Robotics,Shanghai University,Shanghai 200072 P.R.China,Eail: leeching@staff.shu. edu. en bstract: Key words: Based on the research on acquiring ethods of client deands for product innovation developent, apply syste cluster analyses in odeling deands. In study of foundation of QFD and TRIZ, an integration process odel is put forward for product innovation design of QFD and TRIZ. The odel is developed taking in the advantages of both, which respond to client deands inforation effectively. The whole process is set up in structure and regularization, according with general process of huan innovative thinking. nd it has strong aneuverability as well. client deands, innovative design, QFD, TRIZ, integrated odel. INTRODUCTION Nowadays, "to treat the custoers as the core, rapid response to the arkets, and to satisfy the client's requireents with ight and ain" has been the ain intention to enhance the copetition ability of the enterprises. Since product innovation has been hardly indifferent for the survival and developing of the anufacture enterprises, to seek an effective design theory which is suitable for our nation's status and with it to design the products which can satisfy the client's deands as well as to realize the technique and product innovation are popular in design field. Therefore, based on the principle that client's deand is the otivation of the new products innovation and with the advantages in products design of the QFD (Quality Please use the foil owing forat when citing this chapter: Li, Liin, Li, Guiqin, Huang, Shi'an, 2006, in International Federation for Inforation Processing (IFIP), Volue 207, Knowledge Enterprise: Intelligent Strategies In Product Design, Manufacturing, and Manageent, eds. K. Wang, Kovacs G., Wozny M., Fang M., (Boston: Springer), pp. 433-439.

CQUIREMENT ND NLYSIS METHODS OF CLIENT'S DEMNDS 2. Methods to acquire client's deand No atter the idea of a new project coe fro the exterior or interior of an enterprise, the enterprise should take arket survey and analyses it with the consideration of its copetitiveness and its products ability. The person related with the new project should be clear on two things: who were the clients and which kind of the client's deands we should satisfy. There are several ethods to confir client's deands: Designers theselves act as users; consuer survey; Organize different users to take part in soe special discussion; Talk to the users face to face; Inspect the products in real life; research the copetitor's products. Suarize the user's feedback and suggestions. s the web technology is developing, to survey on the internet having a good perforance as well. The ost difficulty of the arket research is how to dig the client's potential deands. For technique evolution theory can not only forecast technology developent, but also exhibit the realization of conceivable product structure. It takes on directive effect for product innovation design. Directed Evolution is the branch of the technique revolution theory which core is the anageent with control process and technology evolution. The theory has been figured it out there are 0 odes for the product evolution. Under each ode there are any evolution ways. With the application of the odes and the evolution ways, the designers can generate the initial idea of product innovation. pply the technique evolution theory to forecast the developent directions of product, and then translate those directions into client's words, farther to dig up and induce client's potential deands cobined with the arket survey ethods. 2.2 nalysis ethods of client deands pplying the Hierarchical clustering ethod to neaten of the client deands, we could acquire a relatively objective quantitative tool for the personnel participate in product developent project to sort the scattered client deands.. Set up a deands atrix with the data fro the arket research

Measure the distance between client deands with Euclidian distance. d = u /. Y^ik ^jk J k=l (3) 3.To use square-su subtraction, the basic idea root in squared difference analyses. If sort n ites of client deands into k groups, G^^Gj^-'-^Gj^^x^^ denote the / ite of client deands in G^, n^ denotes the nuber of the ites in G,, Xt is the eg of G^, then the square-su subtraction in cluster Gf is St=Y.{x,-x,){x,-x,) (4) The entire square-su in groups is k «, S = I,I^{x^,-x,){x,-x,) = Y.S, (5) First put n ites of deands as one group respectively, and reduce one cluster every tie, each tie the square-su subtraction will augent.

436 Liin Li, Guiqin Li, Shi'an Huang cobine two groups to ake augent of S least, till all groups turn to one group. 4. Draw a dendrifor pedigree chart of above cluster operation result. Thus the congregate process and distance of each group can be visually ade out. scertain the groups collective based on the need of analyses and disposal next step. 3. INNOVTIVE DESIGN ORIENTED QFD ND TRIZ INTEGRTED PROCESS MODEL QFD can effectively transfor the client deands into technical requireents of engineering designers via the quality house, and it has great advantages in acquiring inforation. The quantitative description and evaluation for functions, will adinister to widen the ideas of plan and to grab the key and the essential of the probles. TRIZ theory has a set of coparatively integrant syste info in solving the conflicts in product design, and it has a powerful logic strictness and operation procedure. Furtherore, TRIZ has regularity cognition at the huan's inventive process, which is coherent with the huan's learning process that is studied in cognition psychology. Thus, based on the advantages of TRIZ in eliinating conflict, and integrate the theories and ethods of QFD, and then cobined with substance field analyses, educe the process odel for innovative design as shown in the fig.2. sad f«c:hnu (te i»«lvi i Oiil Mw 'iz 0 l*la«reasi^ahfift Fig.2 the process odel of solving proble using integrated QFD and TRIZ We can accoplish the innovative design with this process odel in several steps:

Research on Product Innovative Design Method Driven by Client 437 Deands ) Based on the analysis of client deands and product functions, we should firstly set up the quality house fro the requireent to product properties and functions, transfor "languages of client deands" to "languages of engineering design", and, according to the analyses tools DFD provided and analysis product properties, find out the negative correlative guideline, naely design conflicts. Choose the negative correlative guideline and issue function as the key to be solved next step. 2) Classify the design conflicts, ake sure the negative correlative are caused by the engineering conflicts or the disability of self-function, and then utilize the corresponding tools showed in fig.l to consuate the functions, eliinate the technical or physical conflicts. 3) During eliinating the conflicts and consuating, the basic functions ay siultaneously worsen other functions, which will cause new conflicts, so re-analyses with the quality house should be taken after step 2, to judge whether new probles have been caused till designer satisfaction. 4) Synthesize the iproved accession function with the other functional structures, and then the feasible collective design plan can be produced. 4. PPLICTION EXMPLES The developent of the vacuu infuse equipents is a greatly benefit fro the ethod in this investigation. The quality house constructed by the requireents and technical properties is showed infig.3. Then, apply the ethod of eliinating conflict to solving the conflict between airproof and unlock of the airproof gate. There is two ain functions for the airproof gate of the vacuu infuse equipents: providing alleyway for ould raw aterial; airproofing to for vacuu field. It has a high frequency of open and close, and it should have a press distortion beforehand if the elasticity rubber airproof action based on airproof principles. If the distortion is strong, the airproof effect will has a good perforance, but a strong distortion with a high pressure will decrease the open close perforance. If the distortion is weak, the elasticity airproof piece distort after press, thus the gate and rea pivot will bear the force, the gate body will be distorted or a period of tie action to decrease the perforance of the airproof Substance field odel is showed in fig.4. The technical conflicts described by the 39 standard paraeters of TRIZ as follows: The predicted paraeter iproveent: the reliability of equipent. Technical attrition paraeter: aneuverability.

F/g.i /^ quality house constructed by requireent and technique properties Checked fro the conflicts resolve atrix, the usable principle to solve the conflicts constituted with reliability and aneuverability of equipent are the principles of 27th, 7th and 40th. Finally we find the first cue fro principle of 7th (change diension): change the oved or rest object fro one diension space to two diension space, and change the object in two diension space to three diension space. It provided a rearkable idea for the iproveent of the airproof gate. -x^ f 2 <v,i \ Rcsnt %%-hi V Vacuu stol Brace hvttl ^ * j Fig substancefieldodel of airproof gate syste

Research on Product Innovative Design Method Driven by Client 439 Deands ccording to the cue, adopt the first principle alter the gate originally in the space only rotate the reaer pivot with the circular rotation. But being transfored to be the whole gate body rotates through the reaer pivot along the force direction after being pressed. In the real life application, change the reaer pivot structure, as a clearance conjugate during rotating, and keeping a 3 abundant capacity between the hole and the pivot (fig.8 shows the conjugate instance after gate close) to ensure that ove with the gate when being pressed. The gate will not be affected by torque action. The practice result proves the design eliinate the conflicts between the perforance of airproof and open-close effectively. 5. CONCLUSIONS With the client deands as the driven force of the product innovation, we can guarantee the client satisfaction during product design process and reduce the risks of products developent. Utilizing the structural odel integrated by QFD and TRIZ, we settle the alpractice of lack in solving probles by QDF, and avoid the "two layer questions" caused by siply using TRIZ, and effectively transfor the client deands into engineering realization. 6.
