The Amelia Island Club Enrichment Committee Newsletter September 2013 Welcome to The Amelia Island Club Enrichment Committee Newsletter, Volume V. Here we are! All the Labor Day celebrations are over and the Summer season has come and gone already! Well, although we all love the Summer season at the beach on Amelia Island, we can still keep smiling! Time marches on and the Fall season is here once again! All is well at The Amelia Island Club and The Enrichment Committee has planned several events to keep our Club members just "busy enough" as we enjoy Autumn and the upcoming holiday season with family and friends. Before you read further about The Enrichment Committee calendar for the Fall season, please take a moment right now. A very special occurrence will precede, and shall we say perhaps supersede, any of the events that we have planned! We wish we could take credit for this beautiful and majestic performance - but we can't! The Harvest Moon On September 18th, we will witness The Harvest Moon Rising! A beautiful golden orange enormous moon that will rise in the east shortly after sunset and be mesmerizing! Here's a little tune with a crooner and lyrics you will all recognize! Be sure to click here for the link!! "Shine On Harvest Moon" By Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth (1903) Shine on, shine on harvest moon Up in the sky I ain't had no lovin' Since January, February, June or July Snow time ain't no time to stay Outdoors and spoon, So Shine on, shine on harvest moon, For me and my gal!

October - November: The Civil War: A Dinner Theater Event The year 2013 marks the 150th Anniversary of The Civil War in the United States. The Civil War might arguably be the most significant historical event ever to happen in American history. This year, we have come together as a nation to remember this momentous period of our history and to learn and appreciate our rich past. The Amelia Island Club Enrichment Committee recognized this as a unique opportunity to present our Club members with an intellectual and historical program of common interest to all of us. The Amelia Island Club Enrichment Committee is proud to present The Civil War, a highly acclaimed PBS documentary film created by Ken Burns. It is our privilege to have Amelia Island Club member Ms. Bobbie Fost (aka Dr. Roberta Alexander) facilitate the program. Dr. Alexander holds a Ph.D. in American History, The Civil War and The Reconstruction Period.

The Civil War Enrichment Program will be a dinner theater / discussion forum. Each evening's program will include cocktails and appetizers during the movie followed by a specially prepared dinner menu aligned with the historical theme of the program. During dinner, Dr. Alexander will lead the discussion of the evening's program.
