ULI North Texas Center for Leadership Economic Development Day Deep Ellum February 15, 2018 Speaker Biographies Tom Bakewell is responsible for overseeing all development activities at Streetlights Residential, including feasibility analysis, site selection and asset management. As a founding partner, Tom contributes to the company s unique design-driven philosophy, which targets high job growth markets and brings exceptional talent under one roof. Throughout his 20-plus years in real estate, Tom has been responsible for more than $2 billion in development and acquisitions of multifamily assets. Prior to his role at StreetLights, he served as the regional vice president of investment for Gables Residential (Dallas market), where he oversaw multifamily acquisitions, site acquisitions and the development of new assets. Tom Bakewell President of Development, StreetLights Residential Throughout his time in Dallas, Tom has served as a board member for Preservation Dallas, Friends of the Katy Trail and Forest Heights Neighborhood Development Corporation. He currently serves as a council member for Urban Land Institute and an executive board member for the National Association of Home Builders, Crittenden Research, The Real Estate Council, and the SMU Cox Folsom Institute. Tom holds a Bachelor of Economics and Real Estate Finance from Southern Methodist University, along with a Master of Business Administration from SMU s Cox School of Business. Jessica Burnham has a BFA in Communication Design from the Metropolitan State College of Denver and an MFA in Design Research/Human-Centered Design from the University of North Texas. She got her start in community engagement and community-based design through her thesis project that looked at how a community can be built through communication. Her efforts led to creating a business association on Lowest Greenville Avenue called the Lowest Greenville Collective which ultimately led to her current role as Executive Director of the Deep Ellum Foundation. She also served as the Designer in Residence in Spring of 2017 and currently adjunct teaches with the SMU Masters of Design and Innovation (MADI) program. Jessica lives in Richardson, Texas and loves exploring new restaurants and any art history museum she can find with her husband and two young boys. Nick Clark is the Founder and CEO of Common Desk. After graduating from SMU, Nick spent seven years in commercial real estate working for various owners on project leasing / management assignments in Dallas. In 2011, Nick discovered coworking through a tenant rep client and loved it enough to immediately resign from his company and launch Common Desk. Over the years Common Desk has grown from a small coworking company with locations in Deep Ellum and Oak Cliff to a company focused on creating the future platform for people to experience work. Nick Clark CEO, Common Desk As President and Chief Operating Officer for Granite Properties, Greg oversees strategy and direction for the firm through senior level managers in all corporate functions in the investment, development, management, and leasing of a portfolio of office buildings throughout the southern United States. Greg Fuller President and COO, Granite Properties, Inc. Prior to joining Granite Properties, Greg was with Paric Corporation - a design build and construction firm as Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Marketing and served as a member of the Executive Committee. Previously, he was a Senior Associate with CB Richard Ellis and a National Sales Representative for IBM Corporation. Greg serves as an Executive board member with NAIOP at both the national and local levels and is a board member of The Real Estate Council. He also is a past board member of Plano Economic Development Board, The Plano Developers Council, and Star Children s Charities, and a CCIM designee. Greg received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his MBA from the University of Dallas.

Kourtny Garrett was named President & CEO of Dallas, Inc. in January 2017, and has been dedicated to the revitalization of Downtown Dallas in various roles with the organization since 2002. Locally, Kourtny currently serves on the Board of Directors for the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority, Dallas Heritage Village and Children s Medical Center Associates Board. She is a member of the 2008-2009 class of the Dallas Regional Chamber s Leadership Dallas program, and formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Friends of the Santa Fe Trail and AIA- Dallas. In 2009, Kourtny was named to the Dallas Business Journal s list of 40 Under Forty local leaders and this year she has been named to D CEO s Dallas 500: The Most Powerful Business Leaders in Dallas-Fort Worth. Kourtny Garrett President and CEO, Downtown Dallas, Inc. Kourtny graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, with B.A. s in Communication Arts and English Literature. She is currently pursuing a MA/PhD in Urban Affairs at the University of Texas Arlington. Kourtny, her husband, two children and dog are proud Downtown Dallas residents in the Dallas Farmers Market District. Larry was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. In 1970 he joined the Colorado Governor s Office to build a new downtown campus for the University of Colorado at Denver and two other colleges. The Auraria Campus was the largest capital construction project in state history and today has the State s largest enrollment. He spared many of the historic buildings then slated for demolition Tivoli Brewery, St. Cajetan s Church, the Golda Meir house and a dozen historic structures on 9th Street that today give the Campus its architectural diversity and flavor. Larry Hamilton Founder and CEO, Hamilton Properties He left higher education for the private sector joining Gerri Von Frellick, the State s largest retail developer. Larry became an equity investor in several of Von Frellick s projects and formed Hamilton Properties Corporation in 1976. During the 1980 s Hamilton Properties focused on suburban office parks but Larry remained a downtown proponent and was appointed to the downtown master plan committee by Mayor Federico Pena in 1983. Larry helped convince the Holtze organization to depart suburbia and develop a down-town hotel in Denver s former First National Bank Building. The Magnolia chain was born and he later helped expand it to reconstructed historic buildings in central Dallas and Houston. In the mid-1990s Larry s son Ted joined Hamilton Properties as a principal. In Dallas, the father son team has been the primary force behind the revitalization of a once dying downtown. Their dynamic mixed use developments, three occupying full city blocks, have preserved historic buildings and strengthened the City s architectural legacy.

Jonathon R. Hetzel has worked at Madison Partners since May of 2007. Mr. Hetzel manages Madison s underwriting, financing, zoning, permitting, asset management for infill Dallas properties, and brokerage activities. Mr. Hetzel is also Madison's spokesman for a wide variety of issues relating to Deep Ellum and Lower Greenville. He has taken the lead on helping to revitalize the two historic and truly unique Dallas neighborhoods. Jon Hetzel Head of Acquisition and Divestiture, Madison Partners Mr. Hetzel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in economics. In addition, Mr. Hetzel studied for a year at the London School of Economics. Mr. Hetzel is the President of the Deep Ellum Foundation, which manages the Deep Ellum PID, and Chair of the Deep Ellum TIF Board. Mr. Hetzel is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, Urban Land Institute and The Real Estate Council. Mr. Hetzel has an active Texas Real Estate Broker s License. As Director of Economic Development with the City of Dallas, Mr. Pogue oversees a department that fostered more than $300 million in private investment in 2016-17. Additionally, Mr. Pogue manages the following programs for the City of Dallas: tax increment financing, new markets tax credits, Section 380 economic development, tax abatement, and small business development. Prior to joining the City of Dallas, Courtney was the Director of Economic Development for Clayton County, Georgia. As the Director, Mr. Pogue implemented Clayton County s (population of 280K; home to the world s busiest airport) 2013 Economic Development Plan, resulting in improvement to County s overall economic vitality. Courtney Pogue Director of Economic Development, City of Dallas, Texas Prior to joining the Cook County, Courtney was the founder and president of the Waterworks Group, an economic development and real estate advisory services firm based in Chicago, IL that has focused on urban real estate development. Overall, Mr. Pogue has successfully assisted clients in obtaining more than $150 million of public subsidies which have included: Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Tax Increment Financing (TIF), New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) along with other public financing sources and incentives. Courtney was awarded the designation as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) by the IEDC. Additionally, he holds the EDFP and HDFP designations from the National Development Council (NDC). Mr. Pogue also holds an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and a BBA in Finance from Howard University.
