Ms. Cavo Graphic Art & Design Illustrator CS3 Notes 1. Selection tool - Lets you select objects and groups by clicking or dragging over them. You can also select groups within groups and objects within groups. 2. Direct Selection tool - Lets you select individual anchor points or path segments by clicking on them, or select an entire path or group by selecting any other spot on the item. You can also select one or more objects in a group of objects. 3. Bounding Box - When you select one or more objects with the Selection tool, a bounding box displays around them. Use the bounding box to easily move, rotate, duplicate, and scale objects by dragging the object or a handle 4. Group Selection tool - Lets you select an object within a group, a single group within multiple groups, or a set of groups within the artwork. Each additional click adds all objects from the next group in the hierarchy. 5. Lasso tool - Lets you select objects, anchor points, or path segments by dragging around all or part of the object. 6. Magic Wand tool - Lets you select objects of the same color, stroke weight, stroke color, opacity, or blending mode by clicking the object. 7. Pen Tool - The Pen tool (P) draws straight and curved lines to create objects 8. Add Anchor Point Tool - The Add Anchor Point tool (+) adds anchor points to paths. 9. Delete Anchor Point Tool - The Delete Anchor Point tool (-) deletes anchor points from paths. 10. Convert Anchor Point Tool - The Convert Anchor Point tool (Shift+C) changes smooth points to corner points and vice versa 11. Type Tool - The Type tool (T) creates individual type and type containers and lets you enter and edit type 12. Area Type Tool - The Area Type tool changes closed paths to type containers and lets you enter and edit type within them

13. Vertical Type Tool - The Vertical Type tool creates vertical type and vertical type containers and lets you enter and edit vertical type 14. Type Path Tool - The Type On A Path tool changes paths to type paths, and lets you enter and edit type on them 15. Vertical Area Type Tool - The Vertical Area Type tool changes closed paths to vertical type containers and lets you enter and edit type within them. 16. Vertical Type Path Tool - The Vertical Type On A Path tool changes paths to vertical type paths and lets you enter and edit type on them 17. Line Segment Tool - The Line Segment tool (\) draws individual straight-line segments. 18. Arc Tool - The Arc tool draws individual concave or convex curve segments 19. Spiral Tool - The Spiral tool draws clockwise and counterclockwise spirals 20. Rectangular Grid Tool - The Rectangular Grid tool draws rectangular grids 21. Polar Grid Tool - The Polar Grid tool draws circular chart grids. 22. Rectangle Tool - The Rectangle tool (M) draws squares and rectangles 23. The Rounded Rectangle Tool - The Rounded Rectangle tool draws squares and rectangles with rounded corners. 24. The Ellipse Tool - The Ellipse tool (L) draws circles and ovals. 25. Polygon Tool - The Polygon tool draws regular, multi-sided shapes 26. The Star Tool The star tool draws stars 27. The Flare Tool - The Flare tool creates lens-flare or solar-flare-like effects 28. Pencil Tool - The Pencil tool (N) draws and edits freehand lines 29. The Smooth Tool - The Smooth tool smoothes Bezier paths 30. The Path Eraser Tool - The Path Eraser tool erases paths and anchor points from the object

31. Paintbrush Tool - The Paintbrush tool (B) draws freehand and calligraphic lines, as well as art and patterns on paths 32. Rotate Tool - The Rotate tool (R) rotates objects around a fixed point. 33. Reflect Tool - The Reflect tool (O) flips objects over a fixed axis 34. Scale Tool - The Scale tool (S) resizes objects around a fixed point 35. Shear Tool - The Shear tool skews objects around a fixed point 36. Reshape Tool - The Shear tool skews objects around a fixed point 37. Warp Tool - The Warp tool (Shift+R) molds objects with the movement of the cursor (like molding clay, for example). 38. Twirl Tool - The Twirl tool creates swirling distortions within an object. 39. Pucker Tool - The Pucker tool deflates an object by moving control points towards the cursor 40. Bloat Tool - The Bloat tool inflates an object by moving control points away from the cursor 41. Scallop Tool - The Scallop tool adds random curved details to the outline of an object 42. Crystallize Tool - The Crystallize tool adds random spiked details to the outline of an object 43. Wrinkle Tool - The Wrinkle tool adds wrinkle-like details to the outline of an object 44. Free Transform Tool - The Free Transform tool (E) scales, rotates, or skews a selection 45. Symbol Sprayer Tool - The Symbol Sprayer tool (Shift+S) places multiple symbol instances as a set on the artboard 46. Symbol Shifter Tool - The Symbol Shifter tool moves symbol instances 47. Symbol Scruncher Tool - The Symbol Scruncher tool moves symbol instances closer together or farther apart 48. Symbol Sizer Tool - The Symbol Sizer tool resizes symbol instances 49. Symbol Spinner Tool - The Symbol Spinner tool rotates symbol instances

50. Symbol Stainer Tool - The Symbol Stainer tool colorizes symbol instances 51. Symbol Screener Tool - The Symbol Screener tool applies opacity to symbol instances 52. Symbol Styler Tool - The Symbol Styler tool applies the selected style to symbol instances 53. Column Graph Tool - The Column Graph tool (J) creates graphs that compare values using vertical columns 54. Stacked Column Graph Tool - The Stacked Column graph tool creates graphs that are similar to column graphs, but stacks the columns on top of one another, instead of side by side. This graph type is useful for showing the relationship of parts to the total 55. Bar Graph Tool - The Bar Graph tool creates graphs that are similar to column graphs, but positions the bars horizontally instead of vertically 56. Stacked Bar Graph Tool - The Stacked Bar Graph tool creates graphs that are similar to stacked column graphs, but stacks the bars horizontally instead of vertically. 57. Line Graph Tool - The Line Graph tool creates graphs that use points to represent one or more sets of values, with a different line joining the points in each set. This type of graph is often used to show the trend of one or more subjects over a period of time 58. Area Graph Tool - The Area Graph tool creates graphs that are similar to line graphs, but emphasizes totals as well as changes in values 59. Scatter Graph Tool - The Scatter Graph tool creates graphs that plot data points as paired sets of coordinates along the x and y axes. Scatter graphs are useful for identifying patterns or trends in data. They also can indicate whether variables affect one another 60. Pie Graph Tool - The Pie Graph tool creates circular graphs whose wedges represent the relative percentages of the values compared 61. Radar Graph Tool - The Radar Graph tool creates graphs that compare sets of values at given points in time or in particular categories, and is displayed in a circular format. This type of graph is also called a web graph 62. Mesh Tool - The Mesh tool (U) creates and edits meshes and mesh envelopes

63. Gradient Tool - The Gradient tool (G) adjusts the beginning and ending points and angle of gradients within objects 64. Eyedropper Tool - The Eyedropper tool (I) samples and applies color, type, and appearance attributes, including effects, from objects 65. Measure Tool - The Measure tool measures the distance between two points 66. Blend Tool - The Blend tool (W) creates a series of objects blended between the color and shape of multiple objects 67. Live Paint Bucket Tool - The Live Paint Bucket tool (K) paints faces and edges of Live Paint groups with the current paint attributes 68. Live Paint Selection Tool - The Live Paint Selection tool selects faces and edges within Live Paint groups. 69. Crop Area Tool - The Crop Area tool selects specified areas for printing or export 70. Slice Tool - The Slice tool divides artwork into separate web images 71. Slice Select Tool - The Slice Selection tool selects web slices 72. Eraser Tool - The Eraser tool erases any area of the object over which you drag 73. Scissor Tool - The Scissors tool (C) cuts paths at specified points 74. Knife Tool - The Knife tool cuts objects and paths 75. Hand Tool - The Hand tool (H) moves the Illustrator artboard within the illustration window 76. Page Tool - The Page tool adjusts the page grid to control where artwork appears on the printed page. 77. Zoom Tool - The Zoom tool (Z) increases and decreases the view magnification in the illustration window.
