3 Flexible Substrate Backlit BL440 53 Frontlit FL440 53 Banner FL380 32 Description These flexible substrates are available in three configurations to meet the needs of multiple construction options used both indoors and outdoors. See Characteristics for details. Edges can be finished with hems and grommets. Recommended End Uses When printed with piezo inkjet and constructed and used as described in this Product Bulletin, these types of graphics and end uses may be warranted by the 3M Performance Guarantee, which does provide a warranted durability period for 3M materials. Such graphics that are screen printed are covered by 3M s Basic Product Waranty only, which provides no warranted durability period. Backlit substrate BL440 53, which has no coating on the back, is suitable for canopies, awnings and stretching in frames that are illuminated from the back. Frontlit substrate FL440 53, which has a gray coating on the back, is suitable for canopies, awnings, stretching in frames and banners that are not backlit. Banner substrate FL380 32, which has a gray coating on the back, is suitable for banners that are hung or stretched in a frame. Limitations of End Uses Uses that are Unsuitable for this Film Seaming, such as for multi-panel substrate Wind slits in hanging substrate Second surface imaging Never expose the substrate to gasoline Never use cleaning products that contain petroleum Screen printing with UV curable inks Using UV curable screen print clears For and Piezo Printing Product Bulletin LA FS1 Release A, Effective April 2007 Compatible Products These products are tested and proved to be compatible with the film described in this Product Bulletin. Scrim: a woven fabric base consisting of down web and cross web threads. These 3M materials also have reinforcing tie threads for additional strength, stability and consistency. Thread: a fine cord around which polyester filaments are tightly wound to create a stronger cord; the more filaments, the heavier the denier of the thread. Denier: a unit that describes the density (thickness) of the thread used in a woven fabric. 1 denier = 1 gram per 9000 meters of thread. Warranty Information 3M Performance Guarantee for Product Performance Only Piezo Graphic Constructions and Warranted Durability Graphics constructed as described in the table below are eligible for the 3M Performance Guarantee warranty. This is not a finished graphics warranty; it covers product performance only for the 3M specified products when imaged with the printers and OEM inks listed in the most current version of Product Bulletin PG Matrix. That bulletin may also list certain restrictions for using this film. substrate BL440 53 FL440 53 FL380 32 Vertical Exposure (in years) Graphic Protection 8518 8519 8520 8530 Indoor Outdoor 2 None 0 Inks and Printers See Product Bulletin: LA PG Matrix Graphic Performance Life The actual performance life of a graphic depends on the: Printing and drying techniques Angle and direction of exposure Environmental conditions Cleaning methods Warranty and Limited Liability The following is made in lieu of all other express or implied warranties, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose or implied warranty arising out of a course of dealing, custom or usage of trade: all 3M products are warranted to be free of defects in materials and manufacture at the time of shipment and to meet the specifications stated in this Product Bulletin. 3M will replace or refund the price of any 3M materials that do not meet this warranty within the specified time periods. These remedies are exclusive. In no case shall 3M be liable for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages, including any labor or non-3m materials charges. See the 3M Commercial Graphics Division Warranty Brochure, which gives the terms and limitations of the warranty. 3M Basic Product Warranty for Product Defects Only This product has been tested and is believed to be a good product when used as recommended in this bulletin. The film is covered by the 3M Basic Product Warranty and is guaranteed to be free of physical and manufacturing defects. There is no warranty for printability, visual appearance, fitness for use or durability. See the 3M Graphics Market Center Warranty Brochure for the complete warranty and remedy details. Piezo Printer Support Information Ink Always read and follow the ink manufacturer s written instructions on usage. Total Ink Coverage for 3M Performance Guarantee Constructions We recommend a maximum total ink coverage of 300%. Make sure that the ink lay down is within the limits of what the drier can handle to prevent ink smearing. Note: Flexible substrate is susceptible to blocking or embossing when rolled, especially if the graphic is not totally dried. Color Profiles Many color profiles are available on our website at www.scotchprint.com. Select Color Profile Selector, Latin America. Graphic Protection An overlaminate is required in order to be warranted and must be cold roll applied. Limitations of Liability Ripping or tearing Damage due to the effects of the weather or the environment or a force majeure. Product Bulletin LA FS1 3
Drying! Caution Inadequate drying can result in graphic failure including curling, increased shrinkage and adhesion failure, which are not covered under warranty. Always build enough time into your process to ensure adequate drying of the graphic. Poorly dried film may become soft and stretchy, and the adhesive may become too aggressive. This can cause difficulty when applying an overlaminate, rolling the graphic, and applying the film. See the ink s Instruction Bulletin for more details. Always read and follow the ink Product and Instruction Bulletins on usage. Graphic Protection Graphic protection is optional. Fabrication Refer to the 3M Related Literature section for a list of the Product and Instruction Bulletins that may be needed to make a graphic. Wind Slits DO NOT make wind slits in this substrate. Wind slits have unfinished edges that create weak spots in the substrate and void the warranty, if offered. Seams Although this substrate may be seamed, 3M does not warrant seaming as the image may be damaged during stitching. Finishing the Edges of the Substrate For better outdoor durability, we recommend hemming the edges of the substrate and securing the edges with stitching or another mechanical fastening system. Grommets may also be used in the corners for added strength. Refer to Instruction Bulletin 4.15, and particularly the sections on Design Considerations and Finishing the Edges of the Banner. Maintenance and Cleaning Use a cleaner such as the kind used for high-quality painted surfaces. The cleaner must be wet, non-abrasive, without strong solvents or alcohol, and have a ph value between 3.0 and 11.0 (neither strongly acidic nor strongly alkaline). Using any aggressive cleaning product may change the substrate performance. Using high pressure water jet for cleaning may damage the substrate. Damage caused by improper maintenance and cleaning are not covered by any 3M warranty.
