Before your arrival, the cemetery team will prepare the plot to the specifications outlined in the Burial Warrant Application. Due to health & safety regulations, plots can only be dug by cemetery staff. Upon arrival at the cemetery, a staff member will greet the funeral director and give them an overview of the plot. This gives cemetery staff the opportunity to pass on any issues, health & safety issues, and ensure correct procedures are followed i.e. direction of casket, how the lowering device works. If no funeral director is present, then the person in their place will need to make themselves known to cemetery staff for this briefing. The funeral director or family member will then conduct the funeral and lower the casket when required. If backfilling has been request, staff will need to be notified when the family is ready start. Staff will then remove any mats and/or lowering device and provide shovels. All the council cemeteries have a considerable amount of rock throughout the soil and in order to keep the fees lower, we do not buy in soil to backfill plots. What has been removed during digging will be what is used to backfill. Family wishing to backfill will also need to comply with our health & safety regulations and direction from staff. Closed footwear is mandatory. If backfilling has not been requested, staff will wait until all family members have left, then fill the plot in and make good the surrounding site. Family Burial Area Maunu has a dedicated area for families to purchase plots in central groups. These groupings of plots allow for a central monument to be installed. Plot groupings range from two plots up to six plots and each individual plot has capacity for two burial interments. Ashes may also be interred in these plots. Valid 1 st July 2018 30 th June 2019 Page 2 of 3

To purchase plots within this area, please speak to one of the cemetery team and they will be able to show you what is available. All plots with a grouping must be paid for together. Standard burial charges apply when the plots are required for use. Natural Burials Maunu offers a unique approach to natural burials, plots are set amongst the existing native bush. Specific plots cannot be purchased in the area, instead when a plot is required, the next suitable position within the area will be assigned. What is a Natural Burial? The idea is that the burial is as natural as possible, with minimal impact to the environment. This means there are certain restrictions on both the deceased and caskets, along with the method of burial. Burials in this area are dug to 800mm, this is so the casket sits in the active layer of earth and will break down at a faster rate than that of a traditional burial plot. Because of this, plots are only suitable for single burials. What is allowed? Casket Deceased Plot Marking Permitted Not Permitted Required Untreated timber including bamboo Treated timber Non-ferrous metal Natural material / fabric shrouds Untreated plywood engraved name with untreated timber base boards Synthetic fabric / material plate Full Legal Natural lining material / fabric (i.e. lining Name cotton) Plastic / metal casket hardware (i.e. handles) Metal/s Nothing accompanying the body inside the casket Embalming Synthetic fabric / material clothing Watches, phones, electronic devices Untreated wooden cross/marker Memorial stones or plaques (painted lettering permitted, not to be replaced claimed by nature) Tributes Fresh flowers (no plastic wrapping) Plastic flowers, trinkets, flower holders anything that is not fresh flowers Misc.
