Determine your Ideal Client The one step I see most freelancers skip - and yet quite possibly the most important element of your business. The 4 criteria I use to define my ideal client: Personality, Income/ Budget, musical goals, and genre.
Define Your Unique Offering (Don t be the person who does everything). Niching down to just recording, mixing, or mastering helps position you as an expert. You can command higher rates. Your clients are more excited to work with you and more satisfied afterwards. - If you had knee pain, would you buy the medicine that says Cures all pain or the one that says Cures knee pain? - If your toilet was broken, would you rather hire a handyman or a dedicated plumber?
STEP 2: Do a Few Free Projects
Do a Few Free Projects Your first goal as a freelancer is to build up a portfolio. The best way to do this is some free work in the beginning of your journey. Free doesn't mean a favor: Be professional and guard your time. Your work still has value and is being exchanged for something (experience and a portfolio).
