Dragnet Abstract Test 4 Solution Booklet Instructions This Abstract reasoning test comprises 16 questions. You will have 16 minutes in which to correctly answer as many as you can. In each question you will be presented with a logical sequence of five figures. You will need to determine which of the possible answers best matches the next figure in the sequence, or replaces the missing figure in the sequence. You will have to work quickly and accurately to perform well in this test. It is recommended to keep working until the time limit is up. Try to find a time and place where you will not be interrupted during the test. When you are ready turn over the page.
Each block in the series contains a diagonal row of three circles: one small; one medium; and one large. At each step in the series, firstly the colour of these circles changes: white changes to grey; black changes to white; and grey changes to black. Secondly, the size of each circle changes: small changes to medium; medium to large; and large to small. Correct Answer: E
Each block in the series contains a row of four figures. These always appear in the same order: (i) an arrow head, followed by (ii) a circle/arrow, (iii) an arrow head, (iv) a circle/arrow. At each step in the series: (i) the first arrow head rotates clockwise by 90- degrees; (ii) the first circle/arrow rotates anticlockwise by 90-degrees; (iii) the second arrow head rotates clockwise by 180-degrees; and (iv) the second circle/arrow rotates anticlockwise by 90-degrees. Correct Answer : F
Each block in the series contains two arrows. The position of the first arrow starts in the bottom left-hand corner and the position of the second arrow starts in the bottom right-hand corner. The first arrow starts long and the second arrow starts short. At each step in the series: the first arrow decreases gradually in length, whilst the second arrow increases gradually in length. At each step in the series: the first arrow moves a step along an invisible diagonal line connecting the bottom left-hand corner with the top right hand corner; and the second arrow moves a step along an invisible diagonal line connecting the bottom right-hand corner with the top left-hand corner. Correct Answer : D
Each block in the series contains a central circle and four circles with one in each corner. (i) The central circle changes over a series of four blocks, from white to black, to a horizontal diagonal, to a vertical diagonal. Then starts again. (ii) The four figures rotate clockwise around the four corners, one corner at a time Correct Answer : F
Each block in the series contains a set of three diagonal lines which move one step at a time along an invisible diagonal line from the top left-hand corner to the bottom right-hand corner. In the first block there is a set of 3 diagonal lines. In the second block one diagonal line disappears from each set; which leaves two sets of figures. The same pattern is repeated until there is only one set left. Then at each step in the series, an additional diagonal line is added to each set. And so on. Correct Answer : F
There are four sets of circles, one in each corner, which rotate one corner at a time as follows: the two white circles and the two black circles rotate anticlockwise; and the single white and the single black circle rotate clockwise. Correct Answer : B
Each block in the series contains a row of three figures: a black square, a white square and a triangle. The colours of the two squares do not affect the answer. At each step in the series the triangle alternates between black and white. At each step in the series the three figures shift one place to the right, thus the first figure in the row moves to become the last figure. Correct Answer : B
Each block in the series contains a row of three arrows and a fourth arrow beneath this. At each step in the series: the fourth arrow shifts to become the first arrow in the row of three arrows, so that the third arrow in the row then becomes the fourth arrow (underneath the row of arrows). Correct Answer: E
Each block in the series contains four figures. One of these figures rotates by 90- degrees at each step in the series, starting with the square, then the semi-circle i.e. moving around the set of four figures in a clockwise direction. Correct Answer: A
Each block in the series contains two rows of three figures: a triangle, a square and a circle. At each step in the series all three figures shift by one place. The first figure (first row) moves down to become the first figure (second row). Similarly, the third figure (second row) moves up to become the third figure (first row). Correct Answer: B
There is a central figure and four figures with one in each corner: (i) The central figure changes from a rectangle with rounded corners to a rectangle, trapezoid, 12-sided shape and then repeats this order of shapes. (ii) The four figures rotate anticlockwise around the four corners, one corner at a time. Correct Answer : F
There are three rows of three arrows. At each step in the series, the first arrow from the first row is added to the end of the second row. The first arrow from the second row is added to the end of the third row; and the first arrow from the third row is added to the end of the first row. Correct Answer : A
There are eight figures, plus a central figure. The central figure changes in a series of three: from a horizontal arrowhead; to a vertical arrowhead; and to a curved arrowhead. The eight figures that surround this central figure rotate around it in a clockwise direction by 90-degrees i.e. one side at a time. Correct Answer : E
There are four triangles with one in each corner. At each step of the series: the top righthand corner triangle rotates by 180-degrees; the top left-hand corner triangle rotates by 90-degrees in an anticlockwise direction; the bottom right-hand corner triangle rotates by 180-degrees; and the bottom left-hand corner triangle rotates by 90-degrees in an anticlockwise direction. Correct Answer : E
There are three sets of figures: (i) The triangle alternates between black and white, whilst moving one step at a time across a horizontal line; (ii) The number of white squares decreases one at a time until there are no squares and then increases by one square at a time; (iii) The number of black squares increases one at a time up to a maximum of four squares and then decreases by one square at a time. Correct Answer : C
Each block in the series contains two columns of three squares. The black shading rotates around the perimeter made by the two columns combined, by one square at a time. Correct Answer: A
