March 2018 Page 3 Kiwanis Family House March In March Contributed by Mary Luciano The Kiwanis of Lincoln Foothills and K-Kids from Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School Supported Kiwanis Family House in Sacramento. On March 10, 2018, our Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills and K-Kids, who focus on making their community a better place to live through community service, attended the March in March and raised $365.00. The K-Kids took a tour of the Kiwanis Family House and were very moved by this wonderful facility. They couldn t believe that the Kiwanis Family House has a 32-bedroom facility where families with children or adults who are seriously ill or injured can stay while their loved ones are treated at UC Davis Medical Center or Shriners Hospital. KFH provides convenient, restful, secure and most important low-cost accommodations for families. Rene McGrath, K-Kids Teacher Advisor stated: People don t understand how important a facility like KFH is until they need it. Then those in need realize it s one of the major experiences that help them get through their crisis! KFH provide such an invaluable service to so many! Our Carlin C. Coppin Elementary K-Kids were the first ever to be involved in the March in March event and the KFH really appreciated our support. Our school looks forward to making this an annual event.

March 2018 Page 5 A Star Is Born Award Contributed by Dottie Doctor & Bob Day Dottie Doctor and Bob Day have created a Monthly Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills Award called A Star Is Born Award. The concept and story behind the Award is that about 15 years ago, Dottie worked in a small office, and for some reason felt the need to acknowledge people doing nice things for others, so the Star Award Was Born, she left it on someone's desk asking that they enjoy it for a while and then pass it on to someone else, to say Thank You and You Are Special and any other kind message. Bec Cannistraci gave Dottie the idea for the club version of A Star Is Born Award because he gave her, his Service Hours well before she asked for them and then indicated (in jest) that he deserved some kind of award for being first, and so a new Star Is Born Award was conceived. It's intent is to spread sunshine, and we notice, and we care, we hope our members look at it that way and that it makes us all smile, and know how much the club appreciates what you do for the club. The Star Is Born Award was Designed and Sculpted by Internationally renowned and acclaimed Sculptor Bob Day, (well maybe just in Lincoln, no, maybe just in our Club, well maybe...). The first recipients were selected by the creators Dottie Doctor and Bob Day, and was awarded to Michael and Mary Luciano for the March Award. Michael and Mary will select the April Award Winner.

March 2018 Page 9 K-Kids from Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School Attend Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills Meeting Contributed by Mary Luciano On March 21 st our K-Kids Board, Allie Romano-Dailey & Conner Stacey (Co-Presidents), Rosy, Secretary, Brendan Owen, Treasurer and Caelah Odell, Sgt. of Arms, attended our Kiwanis meeting. They presented their Community Service Activities. Wow! These kids are very impressive. Just a few of their activities this year. Thanksgiving Baskets for 40 families in Lincoln, Blankets for the Salt Mine, Trauma Dolls for hospitals, Holiday Songs, Cards made by the kids, and Cookies delivered to Summerset Senior Living. In the next coming months, they will make Craft Kits for children in the hospital and have an Appreciation Breakfast for their school Teachers and Staff. They have had two Fundraisers this year, allowing the kids to purchase Soccer Equipment for their school. They started the meeting with a wonderful K-Kids Song (attached) written by Allie Romano-Dailey. She wrote this last year. She is now in third grade and is Co-President. We are submitting her for the Leadership Award as well as an Annual Achievement Award for the club. Join us on May 22 at 6:00pm in the Carlin C. Coppin Cafeteria for the K- Kids Award Ceremony. Please mark your calendars, let s show in numbers how much we care about our K-Kids.
