Best in class ribbons will also be awarded. Entry fee: $3.00/fleece. Limits: 10 fleeces/ farm. Conditions: All fleeces must be shorn within 12 months of show date. Exhibitor must own sheep at time of shearing. Fleeces may be entered for Show Only or for Show and Sale. Show Only fleeces must stay on display until 4 P.M. Sunday. Package each fleece in a large, clear plastic bag with identification farm or exhibitor name and animal s name or number. Fleeces to be sold will be weighed upon receipt by the show staff. The seller must determine the price /lb at which the fleece will be sold please enter the price/lb on entry form. Each fleece must be well-skirted removing tags, neck, belly & high vegetation areas. The judge may reclassify fleece if incorrectly entered. The judge may reject any improperly presented fleece without refund. Fleeces must be received at the show/sale building Friday, Sept 21st from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Judging will take place Friday at 5 P.M Fleece Sale : Saturday 10 AM until 5 P.M. & Sunday 10 A.M. 4 P.M. Payment for fleeces will be cash/check/credit card. A $ 5.00 commission/fleece valued at $50 or > and 10% on fleeces <$50.00 will be assessed to the seller. In order to allow for credit card sales, the Southern Adirondack Fiber Producers Cooperative (SAFPC) will coordinate sales and commissions of the fleece sale. Cash, checks and credit cards can be used by buyers. A $2.00 additional charge per fleece sale will be assessed. (Fleece buyers will now make checks out to SAFPC rather to buyers). This change is meant to help increase sales and decrease congestion at the end of the festival. Fleece sellers will receive a check from the SAFPC within 10 days of the sale. SAFPC will be responsible for commission payments. All Fleeces will be released at 4 P.M., Sunday Sept. 23 rd Entry deadlines and instructions on booklet cover. Any questions? Festival Office: 518-692-2464 Alpaca Fleece Sale There will not be an Alpaca Fleece Show this year but there will be an Alpaca Fleece Sale held in conjunction with the Sheep & Goat Fleece Sale as in the past. Sale begins Saturday, September 22 at 10 AM. Please contact Faith Perkins for information: faith@qralpaca.com Fleece should be delivered to the sale area by 4PM Friday, September 21 st. DEPARTMENT Handspun Skeins Instructions & Rules: SECTION HANDSPUN SKEINS Single ply skeins must be at least one oz., and two or more ply at least two oz. *Class 100 % Sheep Wool Single Two-Ply Multiple Ply *Novelty Sheep Wool Blend: 50% (or more) wool with any other natural fiber Single Two-Ply Multiple Ply *Novelty Exotic Fiber: alpaca, llama, angora, cashmere, mohair, dog, etc. or combination of animal fibers - no sheep wool. Two-Ply *Novelty Novice: First Year Spinner (any age) Two Ply 100% Wool Two-Ply Wool Blend Youth: 18 & under as of January 1st Single Two-Ply Drop Spindle: any animal fiber Two Ply Best 100% Wool Skein: $10 Best Wool Blend Skein: $10 Best Exotic Skein: $10 Best Novice Skein: $10 Best Youth Skein: $10 All Items must be handmade by the exhibitor from 100% wool, wool-blend (>=50% Wool) or exotic animal fibers. (Exception: *Novelty class) All skeins should be produced within the last year. Entry fee: $3.00/skein. Limit-10 entries. All skeins will be judged on their own merits and ribbons awarded using the Danish system blue, red & white ribbons will be awarded. Best in Class ribbons will be awarded for each major class category. Skeins must be hand spun by the exhibitor with a minimum amount of 2oz (except exotic classes). Wind skeins, wash to set twist & tie neatly in four places with matching yarn. Must include a 4x6 description card for each item. Information should include: 1. Type of fiber & or combination of fibers. 2. Ply 3. Preparation and creation details. 4. Any additional comments. *Please do not include farm or personal information. This information can be added for display purposes after judging.* *Novelty yarns, sometimes referred to as complex yarns, are yarns which create a fabric that is not always smooth and uniform. Complex yarns are uneven yarns which may be thick and thin or have curls, loops, twists and differently colored areas along their length. Examples: Boucle', core, slub, crepe, etc. Novelty skeins may include plant and/or synthetic materials. All skeins must be received at the Wool Fleece Show/Sale Bldg. between Noon & 4 P.M. Friday before festival. Judging will begin at 5 P.M. Items will be on display Saturday & Sunday in a secure setting. All possible precautions will be taken to protect your items but they are on display for public viewing. Items must be picked up between 3 & 4 PM on Sunday.
