ULTIMATE EDITION OF A TIME HONORED CLASSIC By Drunk-Monkey This one was kind of a treat for me, as I'm primarily a fan of American comics over manga. So this hybrid of American-style storytelling with insets by the original Japanese artist (Koichi Ohata, for those of you who DON'T already know!) was something truly original. The action is virtually non-stop, and the art is crisp. There are some great scenes of violence, and a bodacious chick as well. However, the REAL treat is in the bonus materials in the back of the book, chock full of Koichi Ohata's original concept drawings. Don't buy the three Ground Zero issues, this has all GZ plus MD Geist By James Hartman I made the mistake of purchasing all three issues of Ground Zero as well as this. I assumed this only

contained the three issues of the adaptation of the first MD Geist. This does contain all issues of Ground Zero, all issues of the comic adaptation of Geist 1 as well as all the art contained in the "MD Geist data Album 1". For fans of the cheesey OVA series, this is a must have!! It contains so much story and artwork, even the cover art for all three Ground Zero comics and MD Geist comics in the back along with the other bonus artwork!! As for the stories themselves, Ground Zero explains why Geist was locked up in the satellite, and explains what Geist told the colonel before the Brain Palace scene in Geist 1. The story is on the same level as the OVAs in terms of writing- not too deep but pure entertainment and cheese. There are also references to Death Force and MD Krauser from Geist 2. It's only recommended to those who are huge fans of the Geist animations, as it's not a very good standalone story. If you've seen Geist 1 and 2 or are planning to watch them after reading Ground Zero, you'll be fine. MD Geist 1's adaptation is much more well written than he OVA, but that isn't saying a whole lot. It also expands on a few things the OVA didn't mention, but nothing that'll blow your mind. I'll quickly mention the art: not as detailed as competing comics, but it has such an awesome and unique style compared to others! The front claims something along the lines of "The best art of Manga and Comics combined together", and that's exactly what it looks like. It's basically Ohata's art combined with Western techniques and styles of drawing and coloring, giving it a different look. Extremely Japanese designs drawn with very western ideas. It's far from butchering the cool art from the Geist series, and it actually improves on it, and I wasn't expecting to be so pleased. It is lacking in some detail at parts, but nothing too serious. This was for fans of MD Geist, and as a fan myself (idk if that's a bad thing or not ) it's an awesome package. It comes with everything you'd need when it comes to the Geist books that were published: all of Ground Zero, all of Geist 1 comic, and all of the Data Album plus even more! Its too bad we never got an adaptation of Geist 2 in comic form, cus that'd be a nice little trilogy of Geist comics, and Geist 2's dramatic attempt at a narrative would've been executed much nicer in a comic adaptation.
