VILLAGE QUILTERS NEWSLETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT S DESK Next Meeting January 19, 2017 Happy New Year! It s common in January to reflect on the year just past and to make resolutions about things we wish to change or goals we hope to achieve. Some choose to pick one word to guide their intentions through the year. Whatever you decide, I hope that there is plenty of time in your life for quilting. My resolution for this year is to reduce the number of UFOs in my studio. Finished is better than perfect will be my mantra. A completed quilt will be used and loved while tops and boxes of blocks are just taking up mental and physical space in my life. I want to clear out the unfinished to make room for new possibilities. Whatever your plans for 2017, I wish you Joy and Love to accompany you on your journey. Debra PROGRAMS Happy New Year! The January meeting will highlight three Maryland quilt shops. Come hear about Bear s Paw (Towson), Capital Quilts (Gaithersburg), and Prints Charming (Fulton). Each shop will have a table filled with wonderful items to buy, so you may want to bring money for those special purchases. Have you signed up for Debbie Wendt s workshop, Twirl-a-Tool (photo to the right)? It will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 10 to 4 p.m. at Spring Water Designs. Spaces are limited to 20. The cost is $30, payable to Village Quilters. There is a $16 fee for the pattern and ruler, which you pay to Debbie on the day of the workshop. In January, we will open registration to other guilds, so be sure to reserve your space now!

Registration for Ami Simms workshop, String Quilting - a fun way to create Sunshine & Shadow blocks (photo to the left), will begin during the January meeting. The class will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at The Lodge. The cost is $48. Spaces are limited to 25. See Patty to sign up for either workshop. Looking ahead to February, if you plan to sell at the annual VQ flea market, please see Daria to reserve a table. Patty Wheeler & Daria Phair, Program Chairs SHOWCASE OUT TALENTS! This month Stephanie Sanidas will display one of her quilts. Do take time to see this quilt. It will brighten up our meeting space. February is the month for "lovers"...lovers of quilts. If you have a quilt with a heart theme or red or something that reminds you of Valentine's Day...do consider bringing it for the Guilds pleasure. Contact me at the meeting or at home. Jacqueline Formica BINGO In January look for the sign-up sheets for Bingo jobs at our October 2017 fundraising Bingo. Remember that we need many hands to make this a success! Patty will accept quilts, table runners and items for door prizes at any VQ meeting. If you cannot make it to a meeting she is happy to come and pick the item up! If you are turning in a quilt please be sure that it has a label with the quilt name, your name, Village Quilters Bingo 2017 and any other information you would like to include. If the quilt is designed to be a wall hanging it should have a sleeve. Thanks in advance for your help and support! If you have any questions please contact Patty Wheeler. RAFFLE BASKETS Keep on bringing in the sewing/quilting related goodies for the raffle baskets. The December raffles contributed $150 for the guild treasury. Thanks. Janet Ruehl

LIBRARY The VQ book sale went very well in October. All the books sold, except one, for a grand total of $48. Thank you all Village Quilters for making it a success. Also, thank you Daria and Norma for bringing the books to the meetings in October and December. Donna Shroff SPRING OCEAN CITY 2017 RETREAT Balances for the Retreat are due to me by January 31. Happy New Year to you all! Cindy Reisberg MAY SHOP-n-SEW RETREAT At present we have openings for three people to experience a Denver Pennsylvania retreat. The cost is $35/day (4 days) plus $3 for paper products. Everyone brings her own food but there are two communal dinners. Everyone has a private room. The down payment due is $50 and due in January (February is not too late). The retreat is May 8th to May 12th. See me at the January meeting or contact me by e-mail eburg999@hotmail.com or phone 410-552-1661. SUNSHINE Please continue to call or email news of folks as you hear about it. Thank you, Janet Ruehl

PROJECT LINUS UPDATE At the December meeting we collected 3 quilt tops, one finished quilt from Bette McKeldin and two finished quilts by Jacquie Formica. We are getting ready for our community service sewing day on February 16, 2017.
