Amplifiers are available with one and with two active outputs. For amplifiers with one output, the signal can be splitted to two outputs using special accessories. Various gain values allow for optimum network planning. An extensive range of accessories completes the product family allowing for configuring the amplifiers according to the desired application. Objectives Medialine 2000 is designed for future-oriented interactive networks. The amplifiers are key elements for high network reliability and thus for the availability of interactive services. The Medialine 2000 amplifiers particularly meet these requirements. Of course, the amplifiers provide excellent electrical values in distribution direction. In addition, Medialine 2000 offers characteristics which are important when transmitting interactive services. These are, among others: Accurate test points at all inputs and outputs, separately for upstream and downstream Return path input attenuator option (allows for high return path level) Ingress Noise Control Switch option (Controlled by the network management system, the ICS facilitates locating of return path interference and allows for re- OmniStar Ô SG 1000, SG 2000, SVO 871 Optical Node optical transmission technology MEDIALINE 2000 Coaxial Amplifier M2K-*** MASTER HEADEND PRIMARY RING SECONDARY HEADEND SECONDARY RING DISTRIBUTION POINT Page 3

Introduction to the System Family Medialine 2000 moving the ingress source from the rest of the network.) Hybrid amplifier in the return path (allows for a high return path level and thus a better signal-to-noise ratio, without sacrificing intermodulation performance). Fixed value plug-in equalizers and attenuators (for easy amplifier replacement in case of a failure without requiring new adjustments). Field replaceable power supply (In case of a failure, operation can be re-established very quickly without replacing the amplifier.) Accessories The Medialine 2000 product family comprises a full range of plug-in accessories. This allows the small number of basic amplifiers to be configured and optimized to individual applications. Individual plug-in modules can be used for different functions. For example, the module for generating an output slope is part of the equalizer family. the return path equalizer is driven by a standard attenuator. splitters and taps can be used at the inputs and outputs of the amplifier. All this minimizes the product variety and thus reduces the inventory of the network operator. General Description, Application Notes Order Information, Preconfiguration M2K amplifiers are generally delivered factory preconfigured. The standard configuration comprises suitable diplex filters, respective roll-off equalizers, the desired return path amplifier or passive return path as well as all required through boards in optional slots. On request, the NMS transponder, including the ICS return switch and housing adapter at input and output, are integrated in the preconfigu ration. The preconfiguration does not include "on site dependent" plug-in units like equalizers and attenuators. Please state your desired preconfiguration when ordering. On request, configurations are available which deviate from the above. All elements necessary for configuration can also be ordered from the range of accessories. The configuration under the internal control panel cover are identified in the cover. Cable Connection The cables are connected from the bottom of the device. The cable fittings are fastened via a 5/8 thread, and the contact of the center conductor is established by means of a 2 mm socket head screw via the internal cover. Alternatively to direct connection via cable fittings, the range of accessories provide suitable housing adapters (SZG 93*). Page 4 Connection of Power Supply Unit In case of remote powering, power can either be supplied via the coaxial cables or locally via the lateral housing connector. If the coaxial cables supply power, further distribution is made via equipment internal plug-in fuses. In case of local power supply, up to two voltages (U1 and U2) can be inserted. When shipped, the equipment is switched General Specifications Medialine 2000 to U1. In this case, the inserted power supplies the equipment itself and can be used as remote power for other devices via the internal fuses. The advantage of inserting two voltages is that the remote current, inserted to U2 (max. 15 A), is fully available for distribution in the network. Then, U1 supplies the local device. Medialine 2000 Accessories JXP Attenuators, Cable Equalizer, Output Slope Boards JXP Attenuators JXP -..T The JXP plug-in modules are linear attenuators (5-870 MHz) and are available in 1 db increments from 1 db to 26 db. The JXP provide for individual adjustment of the input and output attenuation in the forward and return paths. For Medialine 2000, the cable equalization of the return path is also done using JXP. Then, the linear attenuation corresponds approx. to the value of the cable equalization.
