Introduction This is one of a series of "Clan" books that document the genealogical records of the children of James Gentry French (1755-1939), who went by his middle name, Gentry. A "clan" is defined as all the descendants of a child of Gentry's by one of his three wives: Margret Amanda Burgner, Louisa Jane McCollum, and Sadie Nancy Shively. Gentry's sons Archie and Waldon had no children, so they will not have a clan book. That means the clans are Claude, Sabra, Gilbert, Leonard, Emmett, and Fred (children of Margret); Crawford and Presley (children of Louisa); Beatrice, Virginia, Viola, and Lu Etta (children of Sadie). The Lu Etta Clan comprises the descendants of Sadie Lu Etta French (1927- ), who goes by her middle name, Lu Etta, Gentry and Sadie's youngest child, and her husband, Gerald James Barnes (1925 - ), known as "Jerry." Notes for Gerald James Barnes: Jerry refused to be hooked up to IVs--drank and ate very little the last two weeks of his life. His wish was to be cremated, which he was -- Kathy Hellwege. From his obituary: Gerald James Barnes, 83, of Grand Island, died Thursday, October 9, 2008, at theveterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island. He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 8, 1944, and served as a Seaman Second Class, receiving honorable medical discharge on March 30, 1945. He was united in marriage to LuEtta French on October 6, 1946, in Central City. He farmed in the Central City area and Marquette area until 1957, when he moved to Grand Island where he was employed at the V.A. Hospital in the fire and boiler house. He retired in 1979. He enjoyed his family and grandsons, his wife's cooking, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and the horse races. He was preceded in death by an infant son and two sisters, Helen Geisenhagen and Patsy Beaver.
