Photography Feb. 26 th March 8 Oh, we have a lot to do! Pinhole negative to positive and mounting. Aperture exercise understanding depth of field. Film photography if everything is completely done.

Group 1 change your negative to a positive Pinhole work

Pinhole negative to a positive

Sandwich the negative (on top), the new paper (below), have the shiny bits touch and place the glass on top. Negative to a postive Expose for 50-60 seconds, you will have to ensure the magenta up top is at 0 unless Mrs. Gilder tells you otherwise.

Have the magenta wheel up top at 0 to start. This is contrast. The higher the magenta, the higher the contrast. Your pinhole negs are fairly contrasty as they are paper.

Wetplate.com See the red on the side? We have something like that with our enlargers, make sure that is at 0. In fact make sure all dials are at 0 to start.

Fineartamerica.com When you turn the enlarger on, make sure the light covers the whole imagery. Mrs. Gilder will show you how to turn on the enlarger with the timer. Hard to explain in a ppt. A few dials too many!

Darkroomdave.com Darkroom Dave results are pretty phenomenal. See the numbers below? That is how many seconds he exposed his negative. You will be in the 10 s. Final will be around 1 minute.

How done?

Once done and dried Glue them onto a black sheet of paper provided. Both on 1 sheet, have your name in the back. This is how, have 1/3 cm in between the two photos and ½ an inch all round as a frame. Name in the back.

Others? Group 3 Complete all of your assignments.

If all done with nothing to do May start shooting film.

Black and White Photography students Get used to your cameras. You will work with a partner to make sure you have the shot. Each of you will have their own roll. Remember BRACKET. What does that mean? If the reading is F5.6, then shoot at that, then shoot at F5.6.5 and F 4.5, so take 3 shots for the one but change the F stops 1 up 1 down.

Your ISO/ASA will be 200. HP5 is a low contrast safe film, to offset this, we need to increase the contrast. ISO is here: You cannot change this. It stays there.

Group 2 You will use your f stop to darken / lighten results.

Digital Photography aperture exercise group 2. Take the shot in even lighting. Work with a partner. You will do 3 exercises and answer the worksheet provided: There are 3 ways to change aperture, you will learn all 3. Shoot RAW.

Aperture exercise Take a shot of 3 items, use a tripod, do this indoors. Use my items if you don t have any, but tomorrow bring items please. Use my backdrops and a tripod A/ line the items up as such to your camera:

Exercise 1 Take a shot having your f-stop at f 5.6, lens length 55. ISO 400, shutter whatever needed. Change the f stop to f 16, change your shutter accordingly to get a proper exposure. Record what you see. Is there a change in your depth of field. If not SEE ME.

Place your f stop back down to f 5.6, ISO 400 as before, shutter change accordingly, lens length 55 mm. Take the shot again. Now step back 1 giant step. Take the shot again. Don t worry about the crop nor the background as you will not be handing in your results. Just the worksheet. Did you notice a change in the field depth?

Go back to where you were before again, F 5.6, again ISO 400, and change your shutter to have your image turn out. Take the shot at 55 mm lens length. Same shot again, change your lens length to 18 mm. Record the depth of field, what did you notice?

Group 3 COMPLETE YOUR PPT. DO YOUR 5 DIGITAL IMAGES. DO YOUR PINHOLE CAMERA NEGATIVE. THIS IS DUE NOW.

If all is done, you may shoot film.

Here is a visual: Your f stop is on your lens. You turn that around. Higher the number, darker the results, higher the depth of field.

Shutter Higher than your lens length so 1/60 or 1/90. If raining, go with 1/60 and have one heck of a steady hand!

Use the bags to get the film out of the canisters. Then roll them into the plastic. Place the plastic into the black containers. Mrs. Gilder will demo now

If you are having issues with getting your film out and rolling it in and placing it into the black containers. I will help. But you need to try!

Develop the film Use the chemistry by the window to develop the film. Follow the instructions closely. I will be around to help as much as possible.

Hang the film to dry in the drier. Help your partner shoot and do theirs. Next day we will sleeve them and start printing. DO NOT WAVE YOUR NEGATIVES AROUND IF YOU HAVE RESULTS. YOU WILL COLLECT DUST. DEVELOP THE NEGS, TAKE THEM OUT OF THE CANISTER, THEN PLACE YOUR NAME ON THEM AND HANG TO DRY.

Pinhole Rubrics A B C Not there Blacks and whites show detail in the positives and negatives. Density excellent. Image photographed had at least 2 elements of design. Crop looked good. Not busy nor messy. Overall impact. Placed on black paper according to what was stated. Blacks and whites show detail in the positives and negatives. Density good. Image photographed had at least 1 elements of design. Not busy nor messy. Well done. Placed on black paper a bit off but not too noticeable. Blacks and whites had a few issues with detail. Image photographed had no elements of design. A bit busy overall. Okay needed continual reminders to place on the black paper and done so in a sloppy fashion. Not done.

Aperture Exercise A B C D Able to follow direction independently with a partner. Worksheet done correctly, when questioned by the teacher, knew all the ways to change depth of field. Needed some assistance. Worksheet done correctly, when questioned by the teacher, knew two ways to change depth of field. Had me do this for them consistently. Or required a mentor who did all of the work. Knew 1 way to change depth of field when questioned. Worksheet partially done correctly. Not done

Rubrics film developing theme closeups / rule of 1/3. Even lighting. A B C D Most of the film turned out exposure wise. Density of the film is great. Images took elements of design into consideration. There are not water drops found. The film is clean. Student was able to do this on their own. Some of the film turned out. Density on the most part was good. Images had some elements of design found. Film has some dust, but easily fixed. Student needed some supervision. There are 2-3 images that worked overall. Density of film was a bit off. Images had minimal elements of design. Film is dusty. Messy. Finger prints found. Student needed a lot of supervision and assistance. Only 1 shot turned out. Noted busy, distracting items found. Film has a lot of finger prints. The teacher did most of it.

Rubrics Printing 5x7 A B C D The blacks have great detail, the whites have great detail, midtones are high in contrast. Burning and dodging noted. But not obvious or needed. 3 Elements of design found. The blacks have detail, the whites have detail, midtones are high in contrast. Burning and dodging noted. But not obvious. Or not needed. 2 Elements of design found. Loss of some detail in the blacks and the whites, midtones are acceptable. No burning or dodging found. 1 Element of design found. Excellent imagery. Good imagery. Acceptable imagery. Test strip done correctly. Test strip needed some help with. 2 test strips needed with assistance. Muddy. Low contrast or too high contrast. Whites and blacks whacked out. No elements of design noted. Imagery weak. The teacher had to closely supervise the test strip
