So you want to be wireless... RECEIVER W-DMX Developed by Wireless Solutions Sweden AB, W-DMX is a new system for the wireless transmission of DMX512. Wireless Solutions is a new company, founded in Sweden, whose R&D department has a long history with the wireless transmission of data. All of Wireless Solutions engineers are from the GSM mobile phone industry and have excellent relationships with fixture and console manufacturers as well as lighting designers. The majority of systems used to send DMX512 data wirelessly rely on a proprietary standard such as 802.11b also known as Wi-Fi, wireless local area network or W-LAN. These W-LAN systems normally use components designed for a domestic or office environment. The W-LAN standard uses fixed channels and does not employ frequency hopping technology; and because of this is at a much greater risk for interference. Unlike W-LAN, W-DMX is a compact, plug-and-play system at a competitive price. More importantly, W-DMX is free from interference from other wireless devices in the 2.45GHz band such as W-LAN. W-DMX uses adaptive FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), which were invented by the US military, to adapt the wireless data signal to the local RF environment. Receiver Three models of W-DMX receiver are available. The R-512 Micro receiver is a small, compact unit that uses an external power supply and can be powered from a 12V battery. The R-512 Indoor receiver has a built-in AC/DC 90-250V power supply. The R-512 Outdoor receiver has a built-in, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that will continue power the unit for up to five hours if external power is lost. The R-512 Outdoor receiver is an IP65 classified version. Each receiver is supplied with an antenna capable of receiving signals up to 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) away. Distances of 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) can be achieved by using an additional antenna. All W-DMX receivers are RDM and ACN ready and firmware can be updated using a separate data channel, which is also used for setting up the system. So you want to be wireless... TRANSMITTER / TRANSCEIVER W-DMX Developed by Wireless Solutions Sweden AB, W-DMX is a new system for the wireless transmission of DMX512. Transmitter W-DMX transmitters can be used for both Multicasting and Point-to-Point systems. In a Multicast system, each DMX512 device has its own receiver, which negates the need for DMX512 cable as the entire system is wireless. In a Point-to-Point situation, W-DMX is used to bridge a distance. All W-DMX transmitters are RDM and ACN ready and firmware can be updated using a separate data channel, which is also used for setting up the system. Up to 8,192 receivers can be used in a single W-DMX system. The standard configuration uses 512 DMX channels; however, systems can be easily adapted to support up to 8,192 DMX channels (16 DMX512 universes). Three models of W-DMX transmitters are available. The S-1 is a 512 channel transmitter that is similar in design to the R-512 receiver. A single S-1 and R-512 make a simple plug-and-play W-DMX system that supports a single DMX512 universe. Multiple S-1 transmitters can be used in close proximity as they can be setup so that they will not to interfere with each other. The Outdoor (IP65) is an outdoor transceiver version of the S-1 Indoor transmitter. The T-2 indoor transceiver is a twounit high rack-mounting wireless transmitter that supports two DMX512 universes as standard and can be upgraded to support up to sixteen. The T-2 indoor transceiver have built-in DMX512 splitter and LCD-display for easy management. W-DMX uses adaptive FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access), which were invented by the US military, to adapt the wireless data signal to the local RF environment. Repeater W-DMX RP-512 repeater is IP65 classified and fit perfect in architectural applications or for rental that need an extra heavy duty unit to work in environments that demand a more robust design. The repeater receives the radio signal from a transmitter and does advanced signal processing before retransmitting the signal. The repeater is ideal as a corner bender making any non line of sight installation possible where a normal transmitter/receiver setup would fail. With the repeater virtually unlimited distances of wireless DMX is possible. The repeater is used to boost the signal when coverage drops. All W-DMX repeaters are RDM and ACN ready and firmware can be updated using a separate data channel, which is also used for setting up the system. The W-DMX is a 512-channel plug-and-play repeater that is compatible with the rest of the W-DMX product line. The repeater is easily controlled by a single function switch, and the status of the radio link is indicated by a multi-colored LED. A W-DMX is up and running in less then 60s. Coverage with standard antennas is 1000m line of sight, with high gain antenna coverage as far as up to 30km is possible.
