State-of-the-Art Drafting, Made Even Better Investing in What You Need General Workflow Dimension Enhancements Annotation Enhancements Page 2

Investing in What You Need Where do you spend most of your time on drawing creation? Drawing View creation and update? Tables? 2D geometry? No? You tell us that you spend most of your time annotating the drawing! Many resources have been applied to enhancing drawing annotation in ST6, ST7, and ST8. This effort will continue into the future to help make you more productive. Page 3

General Workflow Empty Text Box and Callout Display Previous display did not show empty Callout and Text Boxes. Can interfere with locate and other workflows. We started displaying these so you can see them and clean them up. They do not print or show up in Save as Image or Save as PDF. My world is falling apart because I don t understand what this is?????? Added options in Solid Edge Options General Tab. Custom error string Page 4

General Workflow Clean Up a Drawing (Delete everything but Drawing Views) You may not know. Use CTRL+A to select everything. Press Delete Click No to keep Drawing Views Page 5

General Workflow Fence Selection (Directional) Left to Right Fence Inside Entire object must be inside fence to select. Dimensions not selected Page 6

General Workflow Fence Selection (Directional) Right to Left Fence Inside and Overlapping Entire object does not need to be inside fence to select. Dimensions are selected Drawing View? Shift click drawing view Or click No when prompted on Delete Page 7

Dimension Alignment Sets Collections of dimensions that are aligned (chain and/or stack). Alignment creation can be toggled on/off. Toggling off does not dissolve any existing dimension alignment sets. Page 8

Dimension Alignment Sets Collections of dimensions that are aligned (chain and/or stack). (ST5) Chain Dimensions Drag as single set (ST5) Stack Dimensions Drag as single set Page 9

Dimension Alignment Sets Collections of dimensions that are aligned (chain and/or stack). (ST6) Combination Chain and Stack Dimensions Drag as single set Hybrid Set Both Chain and Stack Page 10

Dimension Alignment Sets Dimension Alignment Indicator Disjoint Chain Set Create dimension by geometry and then align with existing chain. Don t select existing chain first and then select geometry. Page 11

Dimension Alignment Sets Pure Stack Set with only stacked dimensions. Insert into Pure Stack Select stack to insert dimension and then select geometry to dimension. Automatically adjusts stack Page 12

Dimension Alignment Sets Hybrid Set Take care when working with hybrid sets. Stack dimensions on left and continue with dimensions on right. Symmetry is recognized and will chain with like dimensions. Page 13

Dimension Alignment Sets Hybrid Set Take care when working with hybrid sets. Adding a dimension directly into a Stack Set will stack the dimensions by size. No symmetry case Page 14

Dimension Alignment Sets Hybrid Set Take care when working with hybrid sets. Create the dimension by geometry and then align with the existing set. Don t select set first and expect proper alignment. Page 15

Dimension Alignment Sets Split Alignment Set Split the set at selected dimension. Break Alignment Set Dissolve the Alignment Set Page 16

Dimension Alignment Sets Remove from Alignment Set Single Dimension Multiple Dimensions Creates new set from selected dimensions Page 17

Dimension Alignment Sets Arrange Dimensions Before After Page 18

Dimension Orientation Trick Question? What is a Smart Dimension? Anyone? There is no such thing as a Smart Dimension. Smart Dimension is a command that places many different dimension types based on the geometry selected. Page 19

Dimension Orientation Bringing consistency between Smart Dimension and Distance Between. Smart Dimension Enable Orientation Selection Use the prompt bar in both commands. shift =horizontal/vertical Toggle between by 2 points and horizontal/vertical while placing a linear dimension. Page 20

Dimension Orientation Bringing consistency between Smart Dimension and Distance Between. Smart Dimension Enable Orientation Selection Status Bar will tell you which dimension type is being placed. Page 21

Concentric Diameter Alignment New radial dimension type button on Smart Dimension Command bar Read the prompt Use d to cycle through Radius, Diameter, and Concentric Diameter. Concentric Diameter Dimension Forces radial dimensions to concentric diameter. Enables the creation of alignment sets for concentric diameter dimensions Page 22

Concentric Diameter Alignment Button forces radial dimensions to concentric diameter. Enables the creation of alignment sets for concentric diameter dimensions. Dimensions stack automatically as you go. Page 23

Concentric Diameter Alignment Automatically inserts into and adjusts the stack as you go. Page 24

Coordinate Dimensions Improved Creation Workflow Fewer Clicks for Measure Dimensions Emphasize Alignment Improved Display Control Dimension Style and Dimension Properties Perpendicular Text (New default) Allow negative values Allow origin value change Applies change to measure dimensions Improved Dimension Line Length and Handles Shortened Dimension Line Drag Dimension Line to reposition Improved Jogging Automatic jog during placement ALT+Drag text to add jog Will also jog adjacent dimensions Improved Drag Behavior Drag any dimension line to reposition all aligned dimension lines Page 26

Coordinate Dimensions Place many coordinate dimensions at one time. Automatic Coordinate Dimension Command Set filter for circle center points only. Select drawing view to find circles. Cursor position defines dimension orientation. Select by Drawing View Selection by drawing view or by geometry Filter keypoints to dimension Page 28 Select by Geometry

Alt+drag the break line handle point to snap to keypoints." Lines display snap orientations at each keypoint. Drop at desired keypoint and orientation. Page 32

Annotations Reference Text Used to extract text from annotations to be inserted into other annotations. E.g. Feature Control Frame has a reference text that refers to the Datum Frame text A. If A is changed in Datum Frame, then that Feature Control Frame will update automatically. Page 33

Annotations Reference Text Can be from following source annotations: Callout Balloon Datum Frame Datum Target Drawing View Drawing View Annotations Look for the Reference Text button on annotation UI. E.g. %{Balloon Upper Ref:A256} means a reference to the Upper text in a Balloon with an ID of A256. Page 34

Annotations Annotation Value Formatting Have you ever wondered how to easily find the codes for formatting values in annotations? Round-off /@2 No units /NU Dual Units /DU Etc. Go to Help and search for format codes How can I make this easier? Page 35

Annotations Annotation Value Formatting Underline and highlight property text and 2-letter codes when cursor is within text. Page 36
