Questions and Answers about the 2017 Paradise Paint Out What does en plein air mean? En Plein Air is French for in open air, on location, alfresco. How can I help? There are many ways in which people can support the Paradise Paint Out. Can you tell me more about plein air painting? Plein air artists pay homage to the great French impressionists. They paint outdoors, capturing ever-changing colors, light, shadows, atmosphere and movement. It s considered one of the most challenging styles of painting, as the artist is at the mercy of nature s constantly changing elements. Can I paint with the visiting artists? Absolutely! Artists, patrons of the arts, students, visitors and residents are welcome to paint and/or observe at Paradise Paint Out locations. Guests are welcome to bring canvas, easel and paints. Local artists (novice and professional) are invited to compete in the Quick Draw. How will I know where artists are painting? Participating artists are invited to Check In on Facebook with their painting location and tag Paradise Paint Out at www.facebook.com/paradisepaintout. Additionally, we will do our best to share locations on the Facebook Page. How do I buy purchase a painting? can be purchased throughout the week in the Wet room Galleries. I d really like an artist to create a painting of my boat, my home, my favorite view or place in the Keys. How can I commission an artist from the Paradise Paint Out and support the Florida Keys Children s Shelter at the same time. Please contact Betsy Keteltas at 305-923-8097 or e-mail beingbetsy@gmail.com How does the Florida Keys Children s Shelter Benefit from the Paradise Paint Out? FKCS receives 40% of each painting sold throughout the Paradise Paint Out. The artists receive 60% of proceeds. range in prices. Additionally, the Shelter raises money through donations for support through this event. Artists travel to the Keys on their own dime, with hopes of meeting new patrons and seeing old friends, while supporting the missions of the beneficiaries. It s a win-win-win. Host Housing Visiting artists are provided guest housing through the generosity of others in the Florida Keys. Hosts receive a painting from their guest. This year, we are seeking hosts for 21 artists - Lower Keys and Key West: January 10-15, Islamorada and Key Largo: January 15-21. If you would like to host an artist, please e-mail info@paradisepaintout.org or call Paula Friedman at (773) 860-8384. Artist Guides Many of the artists are visiting the Florida Keys for the first time. They may have questions or seek guidance as they paint and learn about the Florida Keys. Artists are given the option of having a guide throughout their stay. Guides provide their artist with their cell phone and e-mail and are available to answer questions and give them a hand if necessary. If you would like to serve as an artist guide, please e-mail info@paradisepaintout.org. Venues, Food and Beverage Throughout the event, there are publicized events and receptions for the public (i.e. Nocturnal painting, Quick Draw, Demonstrations, Mayor s Ball Key West). Food and beverage are provided to artists and guests. Venues are selected. Cash and in-kind sponsorships are welcome to support these efforts. Sponsorship benefits apply. Wet Room Galleries The Wet Room Galleries have minimal costs associated with them. Businesses and individuals are invited to sponsor the Wet Room Galleries through cash and/or in-kind donations. About the Beneficiaries The Florida Keys Children s Shelter is thrilled to serve as the 2017 producer of the Keys-wide Paradise Paint Out. In 2015 and 2016, this 5-day paint out was produced and managed by Morada Way Arts & Cultural District. Based in the belief that art in the Keys has no boundaries and benefits so many people, Morada Way Arts & Cultural District authorized the Florida Keys Children s Shelter to serve as the producer and beneficiary of this awesome tradition. The Florida Keys Children s Shelter believes in Safe Kids, Strong Families and a Healthy Community The Shelter is more than just a place to stay. Our extensive programs both residential and non-residential have helped and counseled thousands of children and families in their time of need since 1985. We re dedicated to providing the best possible solutions for abused, abandoned or neglected children; and children that have run away, are truants, or are considered ungovernable by their parents. To learn more about the Florida Keys Children s Shelter, please visit us online at www.fkcs.org. With collaboration in our heart, the Shelter has partnered with Florida Bay Forever for a special day during the Paint Out. On Tuesday, January 17, Preservation Day, the artists will focus their efforts on the Florida Bay, by sea and by land. A reception and finale will take place on Wednesday, January 18th. Proceeds from sales that night will be split between both the Florida Keys Children s Shelter and Florida Bay Forever. Please join our fund-raising legacy by becoming a Patron and/or Sponsor.
