Defending the First Amendment Creating A Culture of Commitment Giving Back Protecting the Environment Serving Healthcare and the Homeless Supporting Children

Defending the First Amendment Establishing new case law, as longtime experts in First Amendment matters, the Boesch Law Group has tirelessly defended rights of free speech. Philip Boesch earned his First Amendment credentials in multiple cases defense of the Los Angeles Times. Philip Boesch was retained by 26 of the 27 Southern California television news anchorpersons to argue the first California case permitting cameras in the courtroom. At the request of Dow Jones, Boesch represented the Wall Street Journal in making new law on public access to sealed court documents in the oil company price fixing case. For many years, Boesch served counsel to the Radio and Television News Association, appearing numerous times on behalf of the press to obtain access to breaking headline stories. At the request of the California Judges Association, Philip Boesch authored three editions of the Association s Judge s Handbook for media access to the Courts.

Protecting the Environment Philip Boesch served as President and as Chairman of Strategic Planning for Heal the Bay, the foremost protector of California s ocean and marine environment during Heal the Bay s exciting growth from headlining the lawsuit that resulted in the multi-billion dollar Hyperion waste treatment plant, to expanding membership, education programs and stewardship of the aquarium on the Santa Monica Pier to tackling ocean pollution at its source. Philip Boesch serves on the Board of Directors and a multiple Board Committees for TreePeople, the hands-on environmental organization entrusted with preserving a sustainable urban ecosystem, dealing with California s drought, raising and teaching new generations of urban foresters. Creating a Culture of Commitment Larry Jackson is a past SPCA Chapter President. Andre Gagne is a regular Humane Society volunteer. All of our people give back.

Recognized experts and advocates for children s rights, the professionals of the Boesch Law Group have given back to children in many rewarding ways. Paul Petersen of A Minor Consideration, the leading advocacy group supporting working children, has said: Every kid actor owes Boesch a debt of gratitude. He is concerned and up to speed on the surrounding issues of working children. He has more than I can count, given his time and treasure to the working kids in this town, and his handling of [Gary Coleman s case] in a very difficult place is the stuff of legends. Mark Abdou is a founding director of PLAY LA; Michelle Wodynski founded the Wodynski Heart Foundation to promote heart health education in children and young athletes; and Ben Johnson serves on the Board of Drive Kids To Be Fit. Supporting children formally and through non-profits, representing children s rights in Coogan law matters, Philip Boesch served on the Board of Directors for the Youth Rescue Fund, and served for many years as a Court-appointed guardian of children s estates and has appeared before he Screen Actors Guild as a presented expert on children s rights and issues. Philip Boesch served on the Board of Trustees for Wildwood School, drafting that school s first strategic plan for the creation of its highly successful upper school. Ben Johnson has served for years through his church as a Youth Advisor and teacher. After coaching hundreds of boys and girls in baseball and soccer, Philip Boesch founded The Westside Breakers, now the preeminent soccer club for girls in Los Angeles. Ben Johnson coaches AYSO and volunteers with the Cub Scouts. Jessica Olman is a wish-granting volunteer for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Steven Valencia creates books on tape for blind students and has served Disabled Student Services as a Reader. Danielle Montero held the position of Rotaract Chair organizing the Special Olympics. The Boesch Law Group gives back. Supporting Children

Serving Healthcare and the Homeless Whether making headlines or serving one meal at a time, the Boesch Law Group gives back to help uninsured patients and the homeless. Asked by the non-profit Consejo de Latinos Unidos to serve as its lead counsel, The Boesch Law Group created legal precedent in benefitting uninsured low income patients. In 14 test cases, Philip Boesch and Larry Jackson of the Boesch Law Group argued that the substantially greater charges to uninsured patients than insured patients constituted an unfair business practice. The Boesch Law Group and its clients were credited by The Wall Street Journal with a big win, after compelling one of the nation s largest hospital chains to enter a compact with uninsured patients, reducing the disparity in charges between insured and uninsured patients. Creating a Culture of Commitment, Annie Ksadzhikyan volunteers every year at Westside and Andre Gagne and Steve Valencia regularly feed the homeless through Adopt-a-Block at the Angeles Temple and Union Station Homeless Services. Yana Sletten is a regular volunteer at the Downtown Women s Shelter and LA Food Bank and Jessica Olman a regular volunteer at Food on Foot. Danielle Montero is a consistent contributor to Rising International, selling handmade goods made by some of the world s poorest women while Larry Jackson, Michelle Wodynski and the Boesch Law Group provide pro bono legal services through the legal clinic of People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) and through Bet Tzedek Legal Services.

Creating a Culture of Commitment Giving Back is part of what we do at The Boesch Law Group whether Ben Johnson s decades-long volunteer participation through church or John Staser s continuing commitment to community development and social justice through Pepperdine s Step Forward Day, from Romaine Oliver-Paschal s over ten year service as President of the Board of Trustees at Unity Church of Truth, to Philip Boesch s environmental leadership as recognized by Proclamation of the Los Angeles City Council, The Boesch Law Group fosters and encourages a culture of commitment.
