Paul Kennedy Mayasich Mayo and PK Mayo 23 November 1963 Paul Kennedy Mayasich started playing guitar as a youngster growing up across from a lake outside the Mesabi Iron Range town of Eveleth, Minnesota. The seventh of eight children, his love for music was sparked then fueled by his older sibling s eclectic musical tastes and growing vinyl collections. Before getting his first guitar Paul would practice slide with a 17mm deep well socket on his mom s broom. A fishing accident in his early years left him without sight in his left eye. It was after this experience that Paul s gift for hearing and playing music began to take over. In the late 80s Paul moved to Minneapolis, Minne- sota and started jamming at a club called Red s Roost, aka Blues Alley with such notables as Jack McDuff, Willie Walker, Big John Dickerson and Billy Holloman. Then came work with Al Rapone s Zydeco Express in San Francisco, Bernard Allison and Alberta Adams while signed to Ron Levy s Cannonball Record Label. Paul currently performs and tours with Benderheads, a four piece power house with Toby Marshall on Hammond, Andy Boterman on drums and John Wright on bass, RAMM Band, an R&B funk trio with Donald Hye Pockets Robertson on drums and John Iden on bass as well as solo and duo shows. Benderheads showcases mostly Mayasich originals and RAMM Band intermixes originals with covers. Paul s natural musical talent on guitar, especially slide, both in concert and recordings, has garnered world-wide praise from his colleagues, critics and publications Vintage Guitar and Blues Matters/UK drawing comparisons to the work of Duane Allman, Lowell George, Roy Buchanan, Ry Cooder and Sonny Landreth. Paul is a generous performer and for many years has hosted the Hot Seat Concert Series in various Minneapolis/St. Paul venues including local and regional guest artists representing a variety of genres. Paul has been awarded the 2016 Blues Performer with an induction into the Minnesota Blues Society Hall of Fame. Paul s original, Arms of the Blues, received best blues recording in 2000 from the Minnesota Music Awards. His rich vocals have been receiving as much attention as his guitar tone and melodic riffs.
