MARCH Reflections: March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb. Breakin Up Winter Old Time music retreat was a blast (as always), but it was really great winning the Cabin Drawing after all these years! Pickin til 4:00 am every night. Then switching gears to Irish Music during St Patty s Month events (twas lion like). The Nashville Irish Trio celebrated a one year anniversary and enjoyed playing several performances and Lucky us, we already have some shows on the book for next March 2019! Also the Granny s Irish Band was a hit as was Granny s Irish cuisine! Stay tuned for announcements there will be more Irish music & food at Granny s in the very near future (just down the Hwy from us) The Students Irish Concert was tremendous. Beautiful sets and they are smiling when they play. We really appreciated back up musicians, Karl Kersey and Bob Dean. Bobby Owen was so helpful with sound engineering. The food and fellowship was great too. Huge thanks to everyone on this 10 th annual Irish show at the Fiddle & Pick. In like a Lion and out like a Lamb; Our dear friend & neighbor Rodney Watts, will always be remembered by so many lives he touched. He went home to the Lord on St Pat s Day. He is in the Heavenly Band now. See you when we get there, Rodney. Announcements: Very recently we had some serious news about our dear friend Travis Stuart. There are efforts to help him with the expenses of cancer treatments. Here is what is going on at Fiddle & Pick to help Travis: Saturday April 28 John Hatton is hosting two Ukulele workshops at the Fiddle & Pick. John is donating 50% of the Ukulele Workshop money to Travis s Medical Fund. SUNDAY APRIL 29, 2018 Fundraiser for Travis s medical expenses. Announcements continued: REGISTER NOW for this June We host TWO Kids Music Day Camp around June 21 every Summer. (registration early April) The first to be hosted June 11-15 9:00am-12 noon for: kids (ages 7-11) that maybe don t play an instrument (yet) or maybe play a little. Learn about music FUN-damentals, Get familiar with all of the instrument families, styles of music, learn some history tid bits and how music works. Save the dates! Register NOW. (Text Gretchen 615-812-2192 if you want show your interest; we need a head count to plan the schedule) The second to be hosted June 18-June 22 Monday-Friday for Kids that play an instrument ages 12-16 (roughly ages 12-16 but we have had kids attend that are ages 11 and 17 ) Note: Instruments played at this camp are usually Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, Banjo, Bass. We can have a discussion about other possible instruments. SPONSORSHIPS NEEDED FOR KIDS MUSIC CAMP: We have a short list of kids that want to attend Music Camp that just do not have the means. We only have $70.08 in the fund that helps kids with music lessons, workshops or camp. We have not been able to host events to raise the money needed. *If you would like to help with this cause, you can donate anytime to The Charles E Stuart Memorial Fund (at the Community Bank & Trust in Pegram that is close to the center). OR; you can sponsor a specific kid on the list below by writing a check to the Musical Heritage Center (Put Sponsor Kids Music on the memo!) Eamonn Dillon grew up in Belfast, Ireland. He lives here in TN and we are so lucky he will be teaching a beginner and also an intermediate Irish whistle class starting April 18 th a 7 week series (see flyer attachment) Text your reservation! Beginning Jazz : This course is for guitar students and other stringed instruments who can play chords or accompaniment, and can solo to some degree over chords to a song they know. Be prepared to

learn to read music, study theory and develop improvisational skills in swing and be-bop styles, according to the class preference. We will cover chord structure, scales beyond basic major and minor, playing off the beat, soloing survival skills. Materials will be provided on a weekly basis, and books recommended for purchase. Beginning Jazz with Stan Lawrence $15 per week (starts Thurs Jan 25) Meeting Thursdays weekly 6:00-7:00pm Guitar Chord Melody Class (just started Jan 8 but it is taking a break and can resume in April) You can call Paul to join the class in April. Chord Melody Class provides the guitarist with the opportunity to play songs by themselves without the accompaniment of a band and have the song intact.
