Welcome, Spring! A Message from the LAP President We can tell that Spring has arrived when the winds blow! This is the season for getting outside - starting gardens, enjoying the warmer weather. I hope that you get to spend some time on your quilting, especially when the winds send you back inside! The Los Alamos Piecemakers have some exciting things coming up - starting with the "Sew-a-thon." Come, enjoy the company and the laughter, and do something good for someone else! Even if you don't bring a team, you can join in with others. These finished donation quilts will cheer someone's day! Our Vice Presidents, Ann & Joan, have been working hard to provide interesting and informative experiences for us. Many thanks! Our first noontime meeting was a great success! We had a good crowd to see the wonderful 3-D fabric art of Carol Martin-Davis, and to have an opportunity to pick out some free books! This month we will again be meeting in the evening at White Rock Baptist Church. Look for the schedule of upcoming events elsewhere in this newsletter! Happy Spring and Happy Quilting! --Laura March Meeting / Sew-A-Thon March s meeting is in White Rock so getting our sewing machines and supplies into the building will not be too difficult. Please bring either (8), (10), or (12) fat quarters. Cut each fat quarter into (3) 5x22 strips. Press and label each strip: from the first fat quarter each strip will be labeled 1.1.1 and from the second fat quarter each strip will be labeled 2,2,2 and so forth for each fat quarter that you use. If you have a two person team you will need (4) fat quarters each. If you can t find (8) fat quarters bring what you have and we will have some donated fat quarters to add to them. If you have any extra fat quarters that you know you are not going to use would you please bring them and perhaps someone else can put them to good use in this project. When finished, the quilts will measure: for (8) fat quarters it will be 35x45; for (10) fat quarters it will be 45x54; and for (12) fat quarters it will be 64x54. You may want to add borders when you are finished. It is your choice. Your team will consist of two people. If you choose to work alone that is fine, it will just take you a little longer to finish the quilt. If you come by yourself and/or don t have a partner and would like one you can join with another person at the meeting and make a team. Please bring the following supplies: Sewing machine (1 for each team if working in pairs) Thread Rotary cutter Scissors Ruler (6 x 24) Seam ripper Extension cord, if possible Pins

Cutting Mat We will have ironing stations set up but if you feel you want your own bring your iron and ironing pad. This is an opportunity to learn a new pattern and technique. Quilts are by Wendy Mathson, speaker for the May Meeting and Workshop. Treasurer s Report The checking account balance as of March 1, 2013, was $10,169.96. --Donna Smith Community Service Thanks to Marilyn Minshall who completed and submitted two quilts and a pillow case to be donated. Thanks, Marilyn! Let's keep 'em coming! Hopefully the sew-a-thon will add to our stockpile of quilts to be given away. Thanks, everyone, for your participation. --Lyn Haval, Community Service Chair 2013

Hi, Thank You! My name is Meghan Tucker and my house burned down in the wild fires this summer. I went to the quilt show in Ruidoso in July and I was donated a beautiful quilt made by someone in your group. I just wanted to say thank you. You can't imagine the impact that you had when you decided to donate quilts to the victims of Little Bear Fire. You blessed me and I'm sure many many others. Thank you so much! Have a blessed day! Meghan
