Thank you for inviting Temasek Foundation International to be part of the opening launch for this public administration programme on urban transportation and e-mobility. We are honoured and delighted to partner the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise in this learning-exchange programme. 2 This is the second time the foundation is collaborating with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia and I am delighted to see quite a number of familiar faces and look forward to catching up with all of you. In addition to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia, the Foundation has had the good fortune to work closely with other agencies such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority. In Malaysia, the Foundation has collaborated a total of 6 programmes, mostly in the area of education, with a total grant of about RM$6.44 million (S$2.07 million).
3 2017 is a special year for Temasek Foundation International. We are celebrating 10 years of partnerships in building people and building capabilities of communities in Asia. Please allow me to share a little bit more about the foundation. Temasek Foundation was set up by Singapore investment company Temasek in May 2007 to develop the human and social capital of communities in Asia. We believe that as neighbours in the region, we can share ideas and work to build towards a connected and prosperous Asia. 4 In September 2016, Temasek Foundation was renamed Temasek Foundation International to extend our reach to communities beyond Asia. Since May 2007, the Foundation has collaborated in a total of 379 programmes across 23 countries, reaching out to more than 30,000 direct participants. 5 Public institutions are key to the development of a community. The roles and functions of public administration are dynamic and constantly evolving to meet the changing needs and demands of society. This is why the foundation supports programmes that assist policy leaders and public service officials to respond to the evolving needs of their communities.
6 This programme is a learning-exchange platform that will bring together public officials and experts from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia and Singapore agencies to share their experience and knowledge in the areas of urban transportation and the emerging areas of e- mobility and energy efficient vehicles. I hope the discussions will be open and robust and urge all of you to share your ideas and experiences. It is through such exchanges that new ideas and perspectives blossom. More than that, such friendly and open exchanges will enhance our understanding of each other s challenges. 7 I thank Excellency Datuk Datuk Haji Ahmad Haji Maslan, Deputy Minister, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia for being here with us today. Thank you for allowing us to continue on this journey with you. With the staunch support from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia, this programme will achieve its intended outcomes.
8 Let me also thank Wy Mun and the team from Singapore Cooperation Enterprise who has worked hard alongside our Malaysian partners to run this programme. With the strong partnership and commitment I see from all parties, I am confident in the success of this programme. Thank you.
