INSPECTION AND PRE-ASSEMBLY Step 1 Verify packaging is not damaged. If product is damaged stop and file claim with trucking company. DETERMINE OVERALL LENGTH Step 4 Determine the overall length of the valance needed for your installation. This Valance is designed to be assembled in increments of 6 without modification between the lengths of 66 and 114 or 100 and 148 depending on the model being installed. Multiple units may be combined to assemble into lengths longer than 148. Step 2 Unpack parts and assemblies carefully. Protect the painted/brown panels from sharp edges and rubbing against other items during assembly. WARNING DO NOT PULL HINGE ARMS OUT FROM HINGE BODY UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO. DO NOT STAND, KNEEL OR SUPPORT WEIGHT ON PANELS DURING ASSEMBLY. Step 3 Verify fasteners in included hardware bag #215518 are appropriate for the wall structure the valance is being attached to. NOTE: If wall mounting hardware is incorrect, source the correct hardware before continuing. PRE-ASSEMBLE - TOP PANEL Step 5 Remove protective plastic coating from the center stainless panel, a minumum of 10 from both ends. NOTE: Do not remove any of the over wrapped plastic protective covering from the center of the right and left stainless ends to protect the finish. Keep panels on a protective surface at all times 215518 4
ASSEMBLY - continued Step 6 Pre-assemble the top stainless panels to the required length by laying the left and right top assembly panels on a protective surface on the floor at the finished overall distance apart. Lay on a protective service. Note: For overall length see Step 4 Step 8 Using #6 Phillips countersink head screws and locking nuts, supplied in small parts bag, match holes in left and center panel, and bolt together, top and bottom. Repeat for opposite side. Right End Left End Flange is on the bottom when installed Step 7 Set the center panel inside left and right top panels, evenly spaced between the right and left side panels, all upturned flanges orientated the same direction. PRE-ASSEMBLE - BOTTOM PANEL Step 9 Repeat the assembly process for the Painted/beige panels. Remove protective plastic coating from the center painted/beige panel, a minumum of 10 from both ends. NOTE: Do not remove any of the over wrapped plastic protective covering from the painted / beige wood panels except where required for assembly. Keep panels on a protective surface at all times 5
ASSEMBLY - continued Step 10 Pre-assemble the bottom painted panels to the required length by laying the left and right lower assembly panels on a protective surface on the floor, finished side down, the ends at the finished overall distance apart. Note: For overall length see Step 4 INSTALLATION Step 1 Verify there is 6 of clear wall space inside of the overall length on each end of the finished valance. Right End Left End Step 11 Set the center panel inside left and right lower panels, evenly spaced between the right and left side panels, all upturned flanges orientated the same direction and secure with #6 Phillips countersink screws and lock nuts. Step 2 Start by mounting the end of the valance closest to the Veggie cabinet; making sure the outside end of the valance is two (2) or more inches from the veggie cabinet when in final location. Step 3 Locate provided template against wall at the correct height above the floor and correct horizontal location for the end of the valance. NOTE: It may be convenient to use the end panels to mark the hole locations when setting the top height of end panels level with ceiling or soffit. Step 4 Making sure template or end panel is vertical, mark the hole locations and outside panel location with a pencil. Template 6
Step 5 Using drill bit provided drill five (5) holes and install anchors if required. A minimum of two screws should go through a stud in the wall. Installation and Operation of: Foldup Shroud/Valance INSTALLATION - continued Step 7 If the soffit or ceiling structure is suitable for drilling and attaching screws, square the valance side and front panels. Mark, drill and/or screw anchor angles for upper support brackets to the soffit or ceiling. Drill Five holes Step 8 Attach stainless panel assembly, with the eight (8) 10-24 x ½ truss head screws through the bracket on the end assemblies and into the threaded inserts on the front panel. Flush end panel with edge of front panel before tightening screws completely. NOTE: The return flange goes to the bottom. This will require two people Step 6 Using the appropriate fasteners from the hardware bag or other fasteners appropriate for the wall structure, attach end assemblies to the wall at the marked/drilled locations. Left End Right End Right End Left End Step 9 Optional on longer assemblies, screw top center panel into soffit through holes in flanges of center panel. 7
Step 10 Carefully pull arms of hinges out from main hinge body. The arms are spring loaded and will snap out to the extended position quickly. INSTALLATION - continued Step 12 Slowly pull down on lower panels to close valance. Step 13 Replace Hinge covers if not installed. Step 11 Attach lower painted panel assembly by clipping attached brackets into the arms of the hinge mechanism attached to each end panel. Step 14 Remove any remaining plastic protective film from the Stainless parts and any remaining over wrapped protective covering from the beige wood panels. 8 Duke Manufacturing Co. 2305 N.
