Reading Comprehension 2 (25 marks) Read the passages below and answer the questions that follow each section. Section 1 The Jungle Book is a 2016 American fantasy adventure film, based on Rudyard Kipling's work and inspired by Walt Disney's 1967 animated film of the same name, The Jungle Book. This film is an adventure between Mowgli, a boy raised by a family of wolves, Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther. Mowgli finds that he is not welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan promises to get rid of what he does not like. Mowgli is guided by a no-nonsense panther, Bagheera and a free-spirited bear, Baloo. Mowgli learns life lessons as his journey of self-discovery leads not only to fun but also to danger. Even though Bagheera realizes that it is no longer safe for Mowgli to stay in the jungle, Baloo, however, thinks differently. Bagheera knows that Mowgli is in danger. When Baloo finally comes around, Mowgli runs off into the jungle where he survives a second encounter with Kaa the snake and finally, with Shere Khan. Mowgli steals a lit torch from the village to use as a weapon and heads back to the jungle. He confronts Shere Khan and Page 4 of 12 English Reading Comprehension Year 6 February 2018

A beggar offers a prince a rose in exchange for shelter. When he refuses, she transforms him into a beast and his servants into household objects. She gives the Beast a magic mirror and warns him that, unless he learns to love, he and his servants will lose their humanity forever. Ten years later, Belle's father Maurice leaves to go to a fair with his latest invention and while on his way he seeks refuge in the Beast's castle. The Beast imprisons him. Belle ventures out in search for her father and finds him. The Beast lets her take Maurice's place. Belle wanders into the forbidden West Wing, and the Beast, enraged, frightens her into the woods. She is cornered by wolves, but the Beast rescues Belle. He begins to develop feelings for her while she nurses his wounds. Belle s father goes back to the village to tell the villagers and Gaston, that Belle has been captured. The villagers set off to fight the beast. Gaston finds the beast and stabs him, but he loses his footing and falls to his death. The Beast dies as the last petal falls.
