The URBAN CHIC Tiny Home Designer: Hannah Nail

Tiny Homes Tiny houses are about 100 to 400 square feet. Tiny houses are also becoming more popular because of environmental concerns. It also allows for the owner(s) to be a little bit more adventurous.

Design Concept Designing a 19 X 8 space to ensure someone can live in, can be very tough. The diagrams presented are mostly utilizing architectural design to make the tiny house livable with plenty of storage. Creating storage creates sleek and cleanliness to keep all of your items away as well as keeping your life organized. The two desk areas, as well as the couch, makes it a very desirable place to live in while you relax.

Design Process (Bubble and Block) The top picture is drawing number 1 The two diagrams on the left side are the bubble diagrams. Here it shows you where I would like the spaces to be in the tiny home as well as the circulation. The two diagrams on the right side are the block diagrams

Design Process (Refined) This diagram correlates with drawing number 1. The diagram shows how I wanted the built ins to be in the tiny house as well as furniture.

Design Process (Refined) This diagram correlates with drawing number 3. The diagram shows how I wanted the built ins to be in the tiny house. This one was the most unique out of the three, but was making the house a little bit

Design Process (Refined) This diagram correlates with drawing number 1 as well. The diagram shows how I wanted the built ins to be in the tiny house as well as the furniture. I picked this diagram as my final floor plan.

Design Process (Perspective) The picture to the left, is the diagram of the entrance to my tiny home. Here you can see the front door with the built in desks and cabinets. You also can see the lighting as well as the windows.

Design Process (Perspective) The picture to the left, is the diagram of the rear view to my tiny home. Here you can see the bathroom door, which is also a pocket door. You also can see the loft with the full size bed.

Design Process (Elevations) The picture to the right is a diagram to show the left and right side elevations to the tiny home. Here you can see the furniture and more details in cabinets.

Design Process (Elevations) The picture to the right is a diagram to show the entrance and rear side elevations to the tiny home. Here you can see the loft as well as the front door.

Study Model #1 To the right, is the rough draft to one of my designs. You can see the built ins as well as the loft.

Study Model #1 To the right, is the rough draft model of the rear and entrance views.

Study Model #2 The top right picture is a view of the floor plan of the tiny home. Here you can see that it is mostly just cabinets for a lot storage In the bottom picture, it shows the back window and a little bit of the living area. It is very open so you can place any furniture you desire.

Study Model #2 In the top picture, you can see where the bathroom will be. As well the loft of the home. The bottom picture, again you can see the layout of the cabinets in the kitchen and how much space you have for the living area.

Final Model The top picture to the right is a bird eye s view of the tiny home. Here you can see the loft with the bed and the downstairs entry/living room. The bottom picture is without the loft so you can see what is underneath which is the kitchen and bathroom.

Final Model The top picture to the right is what the entrance will look like. The bottom picture is the rear view which has a beautiful big window which looks into the bathroom.

Inspiration For Tiny House I loved the layout of the top picture. It had the bathroom in the back of the home with the kitchen on both sides of the home. I thought that it felt more like home with this layout because it leaves the living room space to be more open for guest. The bottom picture reminded me of my childhood because we had a bathtub just like this which will also be very relaxing. This tub also helps make it feel a bit more relaxing and clean with an actual tub in your bathroom.

Lighting The top picture to the right, will be above the front door as you walk into the entry. Here, it will light up this space and make it feel brighter, cleaner and a little bit more open. The bottom picture, is going to be used in the bathroom above the sink. I picked this style of lights because it will pull in the urban style throughout the whole home.

Kitchen For the kitchen, since white represents cleanliness I picked white cabinetry. For the countertops, to bring the urban style into the kitchen, I picked stainless steel countertops. This style countertops will also make the tiny home look very modern. The countertops will also match all of the appliances in the home. For the handles, I picked a stainless steel handle to match throughout the kitchen.

Living Area Furniture In the tiny home, I planned enough space for the clients to put a couch in. I also left enough room for a coffee table for them to put in there if they would like. This space will be great for entertaining!

Flooring For the entry, living and kitchen, I plan to place hardwood flooring here. The style I chose was a dark wood that looks a little distressed. In the bathroom, I picked a white marble tile that will make the bathroom look clean and chic. For the bedroom in the loft, since you will be mostly on your hands and knees, I wanted to pick a carpet that is very soft and absorbent. I also picked a color that is neutral so it goes with any paint color.
