Basecoat slate surface with DecoArt Chalkboard Paint. Basecoat the insert Titanium White, dry, sand and wipe away grit. Use the transfer paper as needed for transferring design line work.. Painting Instructions: Sky: Double load a ¾ Angular Shader with Sapphire Blue and Deep Midnight Blue, paint and blend colors on the insert. Optional to blend in Titanium White if a lighter sky is preferred. Moon: Basecoat the moon French Vanilla with a size 4 Shader. Dry. Pat with Saffron Yellow using a #4 filbert, pickup and blend in Orange Twist, and lightly highlight with French Vanilla. To shade, touch brush edge sparingly in Persimmon and pat blend into the lighter colors. Dry. Scrub Titanium White clouds with a dry size 4 Blending brush. Wipe brush and shade by scrubbing with Deep Midnight Blue. 1

Tree and autumn leaves: Load a size 8 Shader with Soft Black, touching one brush corner in Orange Twist, paint the tree keeping highlights to one side. Use these to colors with brush movement in swirls and irregular lines to form the bark. Change over to a size 1 liner to finish the branches using the same colors as for the trunk. The branches can be left bare or stippled freestyle with a double load of Georgia Clay and Saffron Yellow using a size 6 Blending brush tip. Distant barn with trees: Stipple the trees behind the barn Deep Midnight Blue with a size 4 Blending brush. While paint is wet tip the brush in Saffron Yellow to highlight. Dry. Basecoat the barn Georgia Clay; flatten the size 1 Liner brush tip and blend in Saffron Yellow on the barn front. Paint the roof with the flatten tip of a size 1 Liner and Soft Black; highlight French Vanilla. Repeat these colors to paint the open door. Brick house: Basecoat the roof Soft Black with a size 8 Shader. Load one side of the brush in Soft Black and the other in both FrenchVanilla and Saffron Yellow, pull up for shingles. When complete, pull down on each layer of shingles with Soft Black. When dry, wash the side of the roof with Orange Twist. Leaves can be stippled over the edge of the roof. Load a size 8 Shader with Russet and touch one corner in Orange Twist, paint the house keeping the highlight color toward the moon. Use the brush to pat blend both colors to finish the house. Mix Sapphire and Soft Black to dark grey and double load this color with French Vanilla to paint mortar lines with a size 10/0 Liner. Pat blend Deep Midnight Blue, Sapphire, and very little Titanium White with a size 8 Shader to fill in the window. Mix Sapphire and Titanium White and double load this mix with 2

Titanium White, using a size 1 Liner, paint the window frame and panes. Double load the size 10/0 Liner with Deep Midnight Blue and the Sapphire and Titanium White mix; line the inside of the window frame and panes. Line the outside along the frame Russet. Water down Titanium White to paint the curtains with a size 8 Shader. Paint the spider and web in the window Lamp Black with a size 10/0 Liner. Dry brush the window Titanium White using a size 8 Shader. Fields: Double load the size 8 Shader with Avocado and Orange Twist; paint the farthest field back keeping Orange Twist to the top. Double load the brush with Deep Midnight Blue and Avocado, and paint keeping the darkest color at the base and blending into the Avocado. Repeat this technique for the next larger field but change to a size 12 Shader. Clothesline: Double load the size 10/0 Liner with Lamp Black and French Vanilla, paint the nail in the tree. Double load the size 0 Script Liner with Lamp Black and Orange Twist, paint the clothesline wire. Paint the cat Lamp Black with a size 1 Liner. Base coat the stockings with a double load of Orange Twist and Georgia Clay with a size 4 Shader; stripe with Sapphire and highlight French Vanilla using the flattened tip of the size 1 Liner. Paint the hat Lamp Black with a size 4 Shader; highlight French Vanilla. Paint the band Orange Twist and shade Georgia Clay. Paint the dress Lamp Black with a size 4 Shader and highlight French Vanilla. Double load a size 10/0 Liner with Soft Black and French Vanilla to paint the clothespins. Bats: Paint bats Lamp Black with a size 10/0 Liner. Lettering: Transfer lettering to the slate surface. Paint with Titanium White and size 0 Liner. Finishing: Apply one or two coats of varnish to the insert and washboard frame. Attach a saw tooth hanger to lower bar on the back of the washboard. Or attach two small round hangers to each side of the frame. The top bar remains removable in order to change the inserts for the season. 3
