Instruction Sheet P/N 1029716B 02 RTD Service Kit - P/N 1028320 02/08 Use this service kit to replace either the tank or the manifold RTD on any ProBluet or Mesat adhesive melter. If you are replacing an RTD on a P4, P7, or P10 adhesive melter, you must use the ceramic terminal block that is included in the kit. WARNING: Risk of personal injury or equipment damage! Refer to the safety information provided in the melter manual before servicing the melter. Failure to comply with the safety information provided can result in personal injury, including death. Tools: Wire cutters/strippers Small flat-tip screwdriver 2.5-mm hex wrench 6-mm hex wrench (For manifold RTD only) Replacing the Tank RTD - P4, P7, and P10 Adhesive Melters (See back for Mesa instructions) 1. Switch the melter off. Terminal Block RTD (Connector used only for P15, P30, P50, and Mesa) Thermal Compound 3. Attach the terminal block to the bracket using the 3-mm hexhead screw and matching lock washer. 4. Strip the ends of the existing RTD wires and then connect the wires to the top terminals on the terminal block. Tighten the terminal 6. Trim the new RTD wires approximately 100 mm (4 in.) from the RTD. NOTE: The connector is used only for the P15, P30, and P50 adhesive melters. Discard the connector after trimming the RTD wires. Strip the ends of the wires, and then connect both wires to the bottom terminals on the terminal block. Tighten the terminal O-ring 2. Cut the wires on the failed RTD just behind the RTD and then pull out the RTD. 5. Coat the new RTD with thermal compound and then insert the RTD into the slot until it stops. O-ring
Replacing the Tank RTD - P15, P30, P50, and Mesa Adhesive Melters 1. Remove the front panel (ProBlue) or side panel (Mesa). 2. Disconnect the existing tank RTD (White wires). 3. Open the flap in the tank insulation to expose the tank RTD. 4. While gently pulling out on the top of the sheet metal RTD retention plate, pull the RTD from its slot. ProBlue 15/30/50 RTD location 5. Coat the new RTD with thermal compound, and then insert the RTD into the slot. 6. Connect the new RTD, and replace the insulating flap. Mesa RTD location
Replacing the Manifold RTD - All ProBlue Adhesive Melters Remove the Pump 1. To replace the manifold RTD you must first remove the pump. If the temperature of the tank is below 120 C (250 F) it may not be possible to remove the pump until the melter is reheated. 2. Switch the melter off. 3. Relieve system hydraulic pressure. Refer to the melter manual for information on relieving hydraulic pressure. To reheat the melter: a. While pressing both the Setup and the Tank key, cycle the control switch off and then on again. The left display will flash to indicate that the melter is heating in the override mode. The melter will continue to reheat for 20 minutes and then automatically switch off. b. To continue reheating the melter, repeat step a. until the melter reaches 120 C (250 F). 4. Remove the pump as follows: Note: For P15, P30, and P50 adhesive melters, remove the front panel before continuing. a. Rotate the isolation valve handle upward until it is vertical. b. Remove the three pump-mounting bolts. c. While pulling the pump away from the manifold, tilt the top of the pump toward the front of the melter and then remove the air line from the back of the pump. d. Lift the pump clear of the melter. (P4 melter shown) Note: To gain leverage when removing the pump, thread long M6 bolts into the two holes located on the face of the pump body.
Replace the RTD - P4, P7, and P10 Adhesive Melters 1. Cut the RTD wires just behind the manifold RTD and then remove the RTD. 2. Attach the terminal block to the bracket using the 3-mm hex-head screw and matching lock washer. 4. Coat the new RTD with thermal compound and then insert the RTD into the slot. 3. Strip the ends of the existing RTD wires and then connect the wires to the bottom terminals on the terminal block. Tighten the terminal 5. Trim the new RTD wires approximately 254 mm (10 in.) from the RTD, strip the ends of the wire. NOTE: The connector is used only for the P15, P30, and P50 adhesive melters. Discard the connector after trimming the RTD wires. Connect both wires to the top terminals on the terminal block and tighten the terminal 6. Replace the top and bottom manifold O-rings with the O-rings provided. CAUTION: When reinstalling the pump, ensure that the RTD is fully seated in its slot and that the RTD wires are not caught between the pump and the manifold. 7. Reinstall the pump by reversing the sequence illustrated in Remove the Pump. 8. Switch the melter on and confirm that the fault is no longer present. If the fault reoccurs, refer to the Troubleshooting section of the melter manual.
Replace the Manifold RTD - P15, P30, and P50 Adhesive Melters 1. Disconnect the existing manifold RTD (Black wires), and then remove and discard the RTD assembly. 2. Coat the new RTD with thermal compound, and then insert the RTD into the slot. 4. Connect the new RTD. 5. Reinstall the pump, and then replace the front panel.
