Welcome to The Quilt Camp at Cedar Lakes 2016. This list includes information about the workshops that will be offered. Please feel free to share it with your friends! Workshop sessions: 100 series two-day workshops Session 1; Mon. 10/10 & Tues. 10/11 200 series two-day workshops Session 2; Wed. 10/12 & Thurs. 10/13 400 series four-day workshops; Mon. 10/10 through Thurs. 10/13 Along with the Workshop Number and Title, each description includes: Instructor name Skill level of the workshop: o All levels everyone will enjoy this workshop from the beginner with very little prior knowledge of quiltmaking techniques to the very experienced quiltmakers o some experience in rotary cutting and knowledge of ¼ seam allowance. o Intermediate prior knowledge and experience in piecing and appliqué who is now reaching for new challenges. MON. & TUES. Session 1 Two Day Workshops 100 series 103 Adorable Minis Lorraine Covington HAND & & Hand Embroidery Rediscover the joy and relaxation of hand embroidery with this adorable miniature. Each block is a unique floral design, using a variety of simple stitches that you can use on many pieces. Simple piecing surrounds the small blocks for a scrappy effect, resulting in a 14 x 17 wallhanging. Come and relax while creating a charming piece! Pattern fee: $10. 106 Your Time 1 Mon/Tues Fran Kordek HAND or MACHINE; Your choice! This time is intended for those who would appreciate the opportunity to get away, be with other quilters, and have a chance to work on their own project. Take this opportunity to finish one of your own projects rather than start a new one - all under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor. This session is two days long, Monday & Tuesday. Supplies: your project(s) and any hand, machine, patterns and other required tools. No pattern fee. 107 Handwork Heaven; Hawaiian Applique Kelly Kout Handwork Heaven provides a forum for you to relax and enjoy your time at Cedar Lakes while you work on your own Handwork project or join in on the fun of the featured Hawaiian applique project. The two-color scheme is very dramatic and, once seen, a Hawaiian quilt is never forgotten. This wall hanging size breadfruit design makes creating your own tropical treasure a very doable project, ensuring good luck in all your other quilting endeavors. Learn the traditional Hawaiian way to prepare your fabric and the needle-turn method of applique. Learn about the folklore of this traditional applique and listen to authentic island music. MON. & TUES. Session 1 Two Day Workshops 100 series 108 Fibonacci Debby Lee Fibonacci. What is that?! Google it. Still don t know? Twocolor quilt. Easy as 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. Four BIG blocks - 34 sq! Totally awesome looking quilt! Looks like we worked harder than we did. Everyone will be asking us where we found the pattern, but we will learn that the pattern is ALL AROUND US in nature. This quilt will be the HIT of Fall Quilt Camp 2016. Guaranteed. Pattern fee: $10. 109 Sunburst Mindy Marik & Applique This classic Sunburst design can now be strip-pieced! This quilt has six sunburst blocks which are surrounded by sashing strips and then bordered. This block looks difficult to make, but using this innovative one-piece template will change your mind! Using strip piecing and machine applique techniques, this quilt is made in a fraction of the time it would take to make using traditional methods. Anyone who can sew an accurate ¼ seam can make this quilt. Pattern fee: $10. 111 Curved Diamonds Kris Pelletier A Quilt Camp favorite - this class has sold out in past years! Ask your fellow class attendees to see their stunning quilts which have been made from this unique pattern. Alternate two traditional quilt blocks to create five fascinating diamond shapes that extend into the borders of this amazing quilt. A treasured fabric can be featured at the center of each large diamond maybe a beautiful flower or a favorite scene. There are no curved seams, only 60-degree triangles which give the appearance of curves. You will have the opportunity to learn or perfect several techniques including half square triangles, flying geese, diamond in a square and 60 triangles as Kris gives demos and individualized instruction which allows each student to work at their own pace. MON. & TUES. Session 1 Two Day Workshops 100 series 112 Diamond Double Cathy Sanderson Diamond Double is an easy quilt with dramatic lines and a powerful effect created by one high contrast fabric. One block is twisted and turned to create this beautiful quilt. Diamond Double may be done in any size, just cut more 2½" strips and accent pieces. This is a great quilt for scraps, jelly rolls or coordinated fabrics. Beginners, as well as experienced quilters, can enjoy making this eye-popping quilt. Cathy will teach basic quilting skills for those who need instruction. Join us for two days of quilting fun! Pattern fee: $10. 114 Snowflake Kisses Beth Sidley Snowflake Kisses is one of Beth s newest designs using Deb Tucker s Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler. Deb s rulers are designed with a little wiggle room built in so that each unit is trimmed down to the perfect size. Choose just two colors. You just start with strips and the ruler does all the work! No set-in seams! This ruler will make lemoyne stars that finish from 3 to 12. There are also 6 additional technique sheets available. Beth will be offering a small trunk show of all that this ruler does. Pattern fee: $11; ruler fee: $27. 115 Night Sky Cheryl Travis This wonderful quilt by Jaybird Quilts of monochromatic stars is easily created using four shades of fabric for each block. No Y- seams in this beautiful quilt! Cheryl will show you how to use the Sidekick ruler and how to construct this stunning quilt! Four fat quarters will make up to six blocks. Session 1 Two Day Workshops 100 series 116 Stitch Sampler Felice Troutman If you are interested in working with wool and learning many beautiful embroidery stitches, you will love this class. The Stitches Sampler is 14 x 14 on a wool background and stitched on wool circles of a variety of color choices. It includes easy hand appliqué technique to secure the wool pieces to the background. Felted Wool is very easy to stitch through. This class is for beginners as well as advanced participants. Individual and group instruction can be expected. This two-day class will make your wool projects truly stand out with color and texture. Join Felice for some fun stitching time! Wool Kit will be available; fee: $30. HAND; Applique 117 One by Judy Niemeyer Sue Wilson Do you want a two-day project that you will finish during class? One is a great way to enter into the world of Judy Niemeyer! This beautiful wall hanging will give you the opportunity to learn all of Judy s techniques from a Certified Instructor. However, if you are a lover of Judy patterns and want to tackle something a bit more challenging, you can begin by working on the same leaf as One and stay around for four days to work on the Fire Island Hosta. This spectacular quilt is certain to produce gasps from your friend! WED. & THURS. Session 2 Two Day Workshops 200 series 201 Chopped Block Ruthann Benge In Chopped Block, or sometimes called Bento Box, we will make a complicated looking quilt the easy way. We will sew two sets of blocks, one that has darks on the outside, and one that has lights on the outside. After cutting them into quarters and doing a little re-arranging, they will magically become very beautiful blocks. This is your chance to use the fat quarters or jelly rolls and charm packs in your stash. Two size options are included, 46 x 57½ and 82 x 93. This pattern works well with scrappy, reproduction or modern fabrics, or is stunning made with just two colors. It s truly magical! Pattern fee: $6. 202 Swirling Stars Lorraine Covington This contemporary design works up beautifully with your choice of a Jelly Roll or Fat Quarters, leaving lots of white space for your gorgeous quilt designs. The 16 block is constructed using basic cutting and piecing techniques. Come, relax, and enjoy making this interesting design. Finished quilt is either 62 or 80 square, or any size you need. Pattern fee: $10. 205 Your Time 2 Wed/Thurs Fran Kordek HAND or MACHINE; Your choice! This time is intended for those who would appreciate the opportunity to get away, be with other quilters, and have a chance to work on their own project. WED. & THURS. Session 2 Two Day Workshops 200 series 206 Handwork Heaven; Celtic Appliques Kelly Kout Handwork Heaven provides a relaxing forum for you to work on your own handwork project or the featured project and includes all skill levels. In this session you can create a little of your own luck of the Irish with this wonderful wall hanging. These knot designs are the most recognizable form of Celtic art and are fun to stitch. Once you learn this applique technique you can modify it to enhance other handwork projects. We ll learn to make perfect bias tape and form it into an elegant Celtic knot with perfect points and smooth curves. Kelly also provides individual support and suggestions to those who are working on independent handwork projects. Pattern fee: $9. 207 Machine Quilting 201 Debby Lee The piecing is done. So, are you thinking, Now what do I quilt on this pretty?! I don t want to mess it all UP! HELP ME! We will be helping each other decide on gorgeous but, SIMPLE and EASY designs and motifs for your individual quilt top. Everyone will bring a wall-hanging to class for us to discuss and help get the mojo quilting juices flowing. We will make a road map for each quilter with a vinyl overlay and dry erase markers. You take notes while we analyze your quilt top with pretty designs. And then we will quilt! Supplies fee: $6 plus optional book: $25. HAND; Applique MACHINE; Quilting 208 Improvisational Piecing Mindy Marik Create a series of several small, machine sewn, improvisational pieced quilts using basic sewing tools! Give your inner artist a voice! Work through the design process while working with free-form construction methods. This class will use a natural approach to designing their own, original quilts. Participants will be inspired by color, non-fussy piecing techniques and easy to use design concepts. They will learn modern piecing techniques including: straight line piecing, adding skinny lines, working with curves, and how to approach design using a building block techniques. Students will gain confidence and trust their instincts while learning art elements and design principals. WED. & THURS. Session 2 Two Day Workshops 200 series 210 Boxy Bullseye Kris Pellletier Don t those Jelly Rolls look good enough to eat sometimes? Such luscious colors, all preselected, cut and ready to go. Time to give in to the temptation and purchase one or two rolls! Select a neutral fabric to add definition to the bullseye and you re ready for class. The construction of this modern quilt is just plain fun and easy! The results are guaranteed to be spectacular, no matter how you mix up the fabric strips to build your blocks. Trading strips with your classmates is allowed with their permission. This quilt may be completed in a variety of sizes, from baby to king. Baby quilt measures about 50 x50. Pattern fee: $5. 211 Snowman Penny Rug Cathy Sanderson HAND; Applique Learn the fundamentals of this hot applique approach! This wool applique Snowman Penny Rug measures 16" X 20". We will explore choosing wool, where to buy it, how to felt your own wool, how to store your fabric, and how to wash and care for your wool item. Wool applique is easy, stress free, and fun. We will learn to cut, place, stitch, decorate, and back your Snowman Penny Rug. Join us for two days of relaxing, no stress stitching and fun! The entire project is kitted up for you so you don t have to hunt for any supplies! Kit and pattern fee: $60. 213 Supernova Beth Sidley What a great design to dress up your holidays. You can choose Christmas colors or choose an all-american Red, White & Blue. We ll be using the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler to create the stars. It s just strip piecing. No set-in seams! This ruler will make Lemoyne stars that finish from 3 to 12. There are also 6 additional technique sheets available. Beth will be offering a small trunk show of all that this ruler does. WED. & THURS. Session 2 Two Day Workshops 200 series 215 Wonderful 1 Fabric Quilt Cheryl Travis Another Camp favorite! Using the book Wonderful 1- Fabric Quilts by Kay Nickols, Cheryl will help you make a beautiful quilt using a border fabric of your choice! This is a quilt that even a confident beginner will be able to accomplish. A fun class for anyone who loves those beautiful border fabrics that are out in quilt shops right now. The amount of yardage that you purchase will determine the size of your finished quilt. Pattern fee: $16. 216 Tuscany Poppies Felice Troutman HAND; Applique The Tuscany Poppies Block is 10 by 10. It includes hand appliqué techniques using a light weight fusible(mistyfuse ) to adhere the wool pieces to the background. It is very easy to use and stitch through. We will use the easy freezer paper cotton appliqué technique for the two cotton petals of the Poppies. Wool strips will be cut for the stems. Six different embroidery stitches will be taught and will greatly enhance the Poppies with detail and texture. This class is for beginners as well as advanced participants. Individual and group instruction can be expected. Pattern fee: $8. Optional kit: $36. 217 Focus on Judy Niemeyer Sue Wilson Do you have a Judy Niemeyer project in progress, but you re just stuck? Perhaps you ran out of time to complete your project during a previous class or workshop, or you just can t figure out your next step. This is the perfect workshop for you! Dig out your project, bring it along. Sue Wilson, Certified Judy Niemeyer instructor, will be able to coach you through to your next step. Prior to the workshop, students must contact Sue to let her know the name of the quilt they plan to complete and she will be fully prepared to help you through to the end! MON. THURS. Four Day Workshops 400 series 401 Corner Square Triangles Welcome to My Studio Cindy Casciato Welcome to Studio Time! This class will provide you with an opportunity to finish some projects that you already have underway or you may choose to make the studio project (Corner-Square Triangles). Discover how to make the cornersquare triangle block from strips, squares and rectangles without ever cutting a triangle. We will make this fun and exciting quilt block with the new Triangle Magic Rectangle tool. There are 8 different design choices from one single block. Bring your strips and squares pre-cut to class and we will begin sewing right away. You will use the tool in class to make all your blocks. The cost of the tool is $15; pattern is $10. 404 Scrappy Shadow of the Bear Noella Kalal The return of a Quilt Camp favorite! This is a stunning quilt! The scrappy look may help you use up some of your stash; we all know we have them. There are only four different blocks in the quilt, two different log cabins, a bear paw block and the shadow of a bear paw block. The two log cabin blocks will give it curved look that very is appealing. It measures approximately 85 x 104. We will be working on simple steps to make your piecing more accurate. Pattern fee: $20. MON. THURS. Four Day Workshops 400 series 405 Double Wedding Ring Linda Miller Make your own version of this quilt that everyone can identify a Double Wedding Ring pattern. It was originally made popular in the quilt revival of the early 19th century and this romantic quilt pattern cheered quiltmakers struggling through the Depression. You will be cheered, too, to find out how easy it can be with Linda's cutting and sewing help! Better quilts start with better cuts and we will make use of Accuquilt dies for cutting precise pieces for our 17 Double Wedding Ring Blocks. A four patch Double Wedding Ring will be the basis for the class work, but you may come prepared to make any size of quilt you would like. Pattern fee: $5. 406 Log Cabin & Beyond Mary Lou Wright Log Cabin is one of the first quilts made in the United States. The definition of a log cabin quilt block is strips of fabric sewn around a center square. Three logs are traditional but this is a chance to escape the box! Making them on the machine helps to create them faster! The three Log Cabin quilt choices in this class are Trip Around the World, Modern Windows in my Garden and Traditional (Christmas) Log Cabin. Settings are endless. Use jelly rolls, honey buns or strips you cut using your color preference. Log cabin is perfect for all levels.
