September 2017 Sew It Goes 1 M ic rosoft sew it goes Sept 2017 Reminders Remember to wear your name tags. To Bring: Donation for Soup Kitchen Gift for Secret Pal Our Facebook group is Lake Norman Quilters. LNQ blog address: http:// lknquilters.wordpress.com/ September s Program Bea Lea longarms, writes patterns, and is an ambassador for Island Batiks. Bea is going to be doing a presentation on using EQ7. She will have her patterns on hand to sell (cash/check only!) and will have a copy of EQ mini to give away! Check her out at https://www.facebook.com/beaquilter/. Upcoming Programs In October, Margaret Caughman will present her talk, Granny, Grandma and Me, the Journey of Three Generations of Quilters. For Nov, we will have our annual auction! Joyce Mullins has graciously volunteered to be our auctioneer and we are looking to raise lots of funds for our guild. So start collecting stuff that you think others may desire. It doesn t have to be quilt related BUT be sure to put Nov. 28 on your calendar!

September 2017 Sew It Goes 2 Minutes from August s Meeting Judy Whitehead, President, welcomed everyone to the meeting and two visitors were introduced. The Programs was the Quilt Show Recap. The budget for the quilt show was discussed in detail and will be published in the newsletter. Show and Tell was held followed by a short break. After break Judy explained that we needed a nominating committee for the upcoming election of officers. The guild needs a President and 2nd Vice President. President duties are written in the by-laws as: President Shall preside over all Guild and Executive Board meetings; shall appoint special committee chairmen and coordinators; is a member ex-officio of all committees except the nominating committee and serves as an alternate signer of checks. President duties do not include the Special Projects, such as mystery quilt or block of the month. Those are a separate position. 2nd Vice President duties are to plan and book programs and workshops for the following year. This position can be co-chaired as it currently is. Delores, the Treasurer, gave the balance in the treasury as $13,174.65. Delores told us we are $2,500 behind two years ago but the money from the donation quilt hasn t been entered into the treasury yet. Soup kitchen donations were $49.10. Rene Crowder explained the UFO outcome for this year. were 340 UFOs on the lists given to Rene. 61 have been completed. Delores Fobare and Greta McCrea completed their whole list and Greta gave Rene another list and finished part of it. The most UFOs on the list are by Snow Wildsmith. The most completed were by Laurie Jasany. Judy Whitehead s name was drawn as the Grand Prize Winner which means she won the fat quarters that were turned for each item you listed on the UFO lists. Judy Mikilitus gave us the results for the voter s choice at the quilt show. First Place went to Julie Murphy, 2nd Place to Barbara Barrier, Third Place was a 3-way tie between Bill Boyd, Delores Fobare, and Cheryl Lands. Fourth Place went to Mary Hildebrand. Continued on page 3

September 2017 Sew It Goes 3 Minutes from Augut s Meeting, Continued Committee Reports were given by Mary Jo Belk for the Donation Quilt. There are still tickets left to sell for this quilt. Joyce Mullis says she has had good feedback for the Secret Pal project. Colleen Thrailkill says she will no longer be able to quilt the charity projects. If you need batting or fabric for charity projects please let her know. Snow Wildsmith requests articles, cartoons, quilt show notices, etc. for the newsletter. Deb Waldron, Program Chairman, asked members to Give Blood. If you donate at AmStar in Mooresville, you receive a free movie voucher. Sept. program will be Bea Lea, a quilter, long armer, and blogger. She will be giving a program on EQ7. The trip to YLI and Mary Jo s has been moved to mid-oct and will depart from the church. October will be a two person program by Martha Caughman and Jennifer Kay. Margaret will present, " Granny, Grandma and Me, the Journey of Three Generations of Quilters." And on Wed, 25 Oct, Jennifer will conduct a workshop - Fat Quarter Log Cabin table topper using Marti Mitchell s rulers. It is a 4 block log cabin quilt and she will be discussing QAYG (Quilt As You Go). For November, table top runners for Habitat for Humanity are due and we will have our annual auction. December will be gift exchange of one item and potluck dinner. Laurie Jasany, Library Committee, is going to use the 50% off books at Joann s for our library so if there is something you would like added to the library please notify her. Laurie has two tubs of 2 1/2 strips left over from Dianna s 117 scrappy quilt project. If anyone would like some please let her know. She wants them gone out of her house. Judy Whitehead wanted to see if the group had any interest in bringing quilting to the younger quilters, such as a junior quilt guild sponsored by this guild. Snow Wildsmith recommended that the library resources be looked into. Anyone with interest in this project please contact Jean Langdon. There were 31 attendees at this meeting. Respectfully presented by Mary Hildebrand

September 2017 Sew It Goes 4 October Workshop Quilt As You Go Fat Quarter Log Cabin Jennifer Kay is an award winning long arm quilter as well as a representative for Marti Mitchell. She is going to show us how to utilize Marti Mitchell s rulers for completing log cabin blocks. In addition, she will be demonstrating and teaching the concept of Quilt As You Go (QAYG). This wonderful technique will expand our quilting forte especially for those who are quilting on smaller, domestic machines as we can then do intricate quilt designs without having to maneuver a large quilt in a small amount of space. Let the ideas flourish!!! Please note: Jennifer will have rulers to use for the workshop for those who do not currently own them. Date: Wednesday, October 25, 9am Place: Centre Presbyterian Church Cost: Members, $25.00; Non- Members, $35.00 Tuesday, October 10th ROAD TRIP!! Our goal is YLI Threads, tour the facility, check out the items and for those that wish, a stop at Mary Jo s. Final details and signups for drivers at our Sept meeting.

September 2017 Sew It Goes 5 CHARITY QUILT NEWS Now is a good time to begin making table runners for Habitat for Humanity Each year in the fall, Habitat gives a table runner from us to every new homeowner. A Thanksgiving or Christmas theme would be nice but feel free to let any of your creative juices flow. You can give your table runner to Colleen by our October meeting. Help Out Hurricane Harvey Victims Suggested by Laurie Jasany: Sew Fresh Quilts, the blog of pattern designer Lorna, has some suggestions for ways to help out Hurricane Harvey victims through block pattern purchases and donation to The Linus Connection, as well as a few other sources. Check out her post at: https://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.co m/2017/09/texas-we-loveyou.html.

September 2017 Sew It Goes 6 Blog suggestion from Judy: http://www.aqsblog.com/on point-blog: Has lots of tips, techniques, and free patterns!
