Committee meetings will take place on Sunday, April 8, 2018. We cordially invite you to submit, one or more abstract(s) to be considered for presentation. This year we are branching out to include all areas of fare collection and information technology as it pertains to public transportation. Abstracts will only be accepted on line from APTA members. Fare Collection & Revenue Management s 2018 Session Topic Ideas 1. New Fare Payment Technology Broad discussion on new technologies in fare collection and payment. Discussion will address how new technologies impact a transit agency inside and outside the agency. This can include procurement of new technology, impact of new technology, reporting/analytics technology, etc. 2. Procurement Dissected Discussions on the various players in a fare system procurement consultants, suppliers, agency stakeholders, etc. What are the various roles and what are best practices? What procurement innovations have taken place? Lessons learned can also be discussed. 3. Fare Risk Across Multiple Fares Fare evasion, security challenges with use of third party media, concerns over smart card cloning/fraud, physical security of media and cash, proof of payment fare enforcement with the proliferation of mobile ticketing, etc. 5. Renew or Replace Pros and cons of upgrading an aging system vs. purchasing a new one, strategies for how systems be can be refreshed without a complete replacement, ideas for creative life extending approaches, alternative investment or funding strategies. 6. Revenue Management and Audits Best Practices, Fare Policy issues, internal and external audits, lessons learned. 7. Planning for the Future How will future passengers choose to travel? What are the influencers? Cost? Technology? Increased options? How do we best plan and prepare for future needs? 8. New Fare System Implementation and Integration How do new systems interface with existing back office systems such as finance CAD/AVL, payroll, scheduling, etc.? How do multiple suppliers work together to provide an integrated solution? What challenges were represented? Lessons learned worth sharing? 9. Last Mile Integration and Strategy First mile/last mile, forming new partnerships and agreements, tolls, parking, regional connections, ride share, etc. 10. Small Agency Opportunities and Challenges Attracting healthy procurement competition, new procurement and business strategies and best practices 11. Fare System challenges Submit a real world problem and a representative to discuss a situation that could be used in a panel discussion or round table format. Please share an innovative international project and provide an expert to explain the problem(s) it solved and how it has improved the situation. 13. Lessons in Working Through a Crisis Everything from natural disasters to bridge collapses have huge impacts on public transportation systems. Discussion can revolve around preparing your agency for a disaster, communications strategy, lessons learned, etc. 14. Mobile Ticketing/Mobile Payments Broad discussion on everything from new technologies, procurement, implementation, impact on ridership, lessons learned, etc. 15. Others Don t see your topic listed? 2018 TransITech CFP Topics Transit & Paratransit ITS Applications What can technology do to ease the burden of managing and operating paratransit systems. A number of well developed ITS technologies have direct application but there is more to be done to make it all work together. What is out there and what is on the horizon. Safety & Security Technologies Critical issues in an environment with expanding risks. What ate best practices addressing safety and security as key operating objectives of all transit providers. What s new and effective and how can we improve as an industry? Fare Technology As technology evolves, fare systems technology must evolve as well. What emerging technology is new in this important field to facilitate revenue collection and improve the customer interface? Transit Cybersecurity Applications: Preventing and managing security breaches in the technological world of today is always a major challenge. Ever increasing system viruses, spam emails, encryption hostage keys and other threats to Transit Technologies need to have careful and well planned out strategies and methods to deal with. This session explores what transit systems are doing to manage and prevent such breaches and potential implications. Connected Vehicle Technologies: Connected Vehicle Technology allows for vehicles to communicate with each other and surrounding environment to improve safety and security of passengers. This session discusses how these technologies work and what are their implications in the future of travel. Disaster Recovery and Emergency Management Issues - Lessons from latest events: Disaster Recovery and Emergency Management have always served to provide insurance policy for resumption of operations after disruptive events, whether they be man-made or natural disasters. The latest impact of hurricanes to hit various parts of the United States underscores the need to be always on the ready should such a disaster strike. Learn about what agencies are doing to manage and prepare for such events and what were the lessons from some of the latest disasters that the transit agencies have had to cope with. Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence How can Information Technology help your business unlock the value of transit data with AI and Machine Learning? Learn how to leverage AI-powered analytics for faster and smarter decision making and automate operations. Real-time Onboard Technologies & Fleet Data What are the latest and innovative real-time onboard technologies? How are fleet data and realtime technologies on the bus or rail taking agencies to the next level of success?

AWS, Azure & Google Cloud in Transit What is the role of today s enterprise public cloud market in Transit? How does cloud platforms have a solution for security, access, and storage? Come and see examples of cloud-based transit technologies using AWS, Azure or Google cloud. Public\Private Transit agency s in-house development efforts Information Technology is becoming the core of business. The role of the CIO or Directors of IT is to evolve as technology and customer experiences change. Technology Procurement Procurement lead times often are longer than the useful life of the technology which it is intended to procure. Automated Vehicle (AV) Technologies: AV technologies have been testing in the past decade and became a lot more mature for the prime time. Let s heard from the industrial experts about AV technologies development and their applications to date. Assisted Technologies, Our society has started to aged from the population perspective. The assisted technologies not only apply to the ADA community, but also the senior community as well. There are lots compliance to be followed from the regulatory requirement. The most recent development is the W3 consortium has published the WCAG 2.0 guideline for web related development. Let s heard from the experts how can we engage the new assisted technologies to facilitate our riders to utilize the transit services. FTA Mobility on Demand Sandbox Project Updates FTA awarded the first ever Mobility on Demand Sandbox Grant in October 2016 to 11 recipients in an effort to experiment with innovation technologies in the transit industry. Let's hear from FTA Office of Research, Demonstration and Innovation about their perspective and the grant recipients about their projects and discuss the potential impacts to their operations and to the industry.
