Open Class Home Economics 1) PREMIUMS OFFERED: 1 st - $3.00 2 nd - $2.00 3 rd - $1.00 2) All exhibits must have been actual work of the exhibitor and have been made or finished since November 1, 2016. All exhibits must be of showmanship quality. 3) Exhibits must be removed between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on Saturday, October 21. Premiums will be withheld on exhibits removed from the Fair prior to the proper check out time. 4) All exhibits must be entered between 3:30 and 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 18 at the Walsh County Fair Building. Please note: Exhibits will not be accepted at any other time. Exhibits are judged at 8:30 am on Thursday, October 19. The Home Economic Division Area will be closed for viewing at this time. 5) Exhibitors are not restricted to a Walsh County address. Anyone is eligible to exhibit. 6) Only one (1) entry per exhibitor is allowed in each. numbers should be attached to article or exhibit by exhibitors before entry. Official tags will be attached at time of entry. 7) 4-H ers are not allowed to compete in the open class with the same article which they have exhibited in the 4-H Division. However, they may compete in the Open Division S. 8) The management reserves the right and Judges are authorized to reject any exhibits which are improperly represented, exhibited or otherwise undesirable with respect to variety or quality. If there is only one exhibit in the, the prize is left to the Judge s discretion. 9) Anyone who has never entered an exhibit at the Fair, or has not exhibited in that Division within the last five (5) years is considered a New Exhibitor. 10) No entry will be accepted unless there is a for it. 11) The Junior Division is open to Boys and Girls through 18 years of age. Exhibitors age is to be included on exhibits entered in the Junior Division. 12) Disabled Citizen Division is open to anyone who has any physical or mental disability. 13) All exhibits must be neat and clean.

a. Garments may have been worn, but should be clean and well-pressed. If garments need to be hung, exhibitor must provide a hanger. If a commercial pattern is used; the pattern guide is required and should be pinned to the garment, and if any changes in the pattern are made, please indicate this on the guide. b. Framing is recommended but not required for all counted cross-stitch pieces. c. Crocheted doilies must be fastened to a solid colored paper or cloth for exhibiting. d. Food items should be displayed on a sturdy paper plate and placed in a plastic bag. The recipe is required and should be attached securely to food item. e. Models should be exhibited with the directions that came with the model when the model was purchased, or if that is not possible, a note card with the steps used to assemble the model is acceptable. f. It is acceptable to exhibit quilts that have been constructed by the exhibitor, but have been commercially quilted. g. All items must be presented in the Ziploc Bag. 14) Food from the same batch cannot be exhibited by more than one family member in the same. 15) Box mixes will not be accepted as any baked food. Except for 374 and 497. 16) All canned foods must be exhibited in a standard half-pint, pint or a standard quart jar. Jelly can be shown in standard canning jars with two-part lids and no paraffin. All canned foods are to be exhibited with screw bands left on the jars for safety in handing. Entries must be labeled with the name of the product, canning method used, and length of processing time. Wine may be exhibited in appropriate containers following recommended wine making process. 17) A maximum of 1 blue, red, and white ribbon may be given per, according to the Judge s discretion in all Divisions. This applies to Needlework, Clothing, Crafts, Plants, Baked Foods, Canned Foods, Senior, Junior, and Disabled Citizens Divisions. 18) Best of the Division may be given to the exhibits, according to the Judge s discretion. 19) The Walsh County Extension Office and the Walsh County Fair Association will not be held responsible for lost or stolen articles.

20) All protests made against any entry or against any decision of the Judges must be made in writing within 24 hours. All protests must be made to the Open Class Committee. Protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal, with specific charges and recital of facts relied upon or made. All questions in dispute or differences not covered by these rules shall be referred to the governing county fair committee whose decisions shall be final. Any ungentlemanly conduct toward the Judges or Management by Exhibitors will be cause for withholding any premium award. The decision of the Management on all matters shall be final. 21) Please Note: Items exhibited in the Other S must not be duplicates of previous S in the Division. New Exhibitor Award The New Exhibitor receiving the most Blue ribbons in the Canned Foods, Baked Foods, Needlework, Clothing, Crafts/Plants, Junior, Senior Citizen Division and Disabled Citizen Divisions will each receive a New Exhibitor Ribbon. Be sure to state that you are a New Exhibitor when entering exhibits. Sweepstakes A $25.00 cash award will be given by the Walsh County Fair Association to each of the individuals receiving the greatest number of Blue ribbons in each of the following Divisions, Canned Foods, Baked Foods, Needlework, Clothing, Crafts/Plants, Junior, Senior Citizen Division and Disabled Citizen Divisions. In the event of a tie, the Sweepstakes winner is selected on Best of the Division or top entry exhibits. No one person will be awarded a Sweepstakes in any one Division of the Open Home Economic areas for more than two (2) years in succession.
