Biodiversity Photography Contest Competition Rules 2018 Edition This Regulation establishes the rules for participation in the Biodiversity Photography Contest, which is part of the International Nature Image Festival (FIIN). The Competition is an initiative organized by the Municipality of Vila Real and by the Zona Livre Associação Cultural. Article 1 (Object) 1 The Biodiversity Photography Contest has as main objective to promote the theme of biological natural heritage, namely the natural regions, the ecosystems, the habitats and the species of wild fauna and flora, through the selection and classification of photographs related to this theme, being governed by criteria defined in this Regulation. It also intends to promote nature photography and promote its growth and development, in addition to launching the debate and reflection of society on the need of knowing, promoting and conserving biodiversity. 2 The selection and classification of the photographs presented by the Participant s results in the elaboration of a catalogue and the holding of the Biodiversity Photography Exhibition, an event integrated in the International Nature Image Festival (FIIN).
Article 2 (Organizing Entities) 1 The Organizing Entities of the Competition are the Municipality of Vila Real and the Zona Livre Associação Cultural. Article 3 (Organizing committee) 1 The Organizing Committee is composed of members of the Environment Services of the Vila Real City Council, the Sound and the Image Museum of Vila Real, the Municipal Theater of Vila Real and the Zona Livre Associação Cultural. 2 It is the responsibility of the Organizing Committee to manage and organize the Competition, namely the appointment of the members of the Jury. It is also the responsibility of the Organizing Committee to verify the admission criteria defined in this regulation. 3 It is the responsibility of the Organizing Committee to select the photographs that will be exhibited in the Biodiversity Exhibition, as well as the works to be included in the Catalogue to be produced within the scope of this Contest. Article 4 (Jury) 1 The Jury of this competition consists of personalities of recognized merit in photography, in a minimum number of three (3) elements.
2 It is the competence of the Jury to classify the photographs submitted to the Competition, made available after the verification of compliance with this regulation by the Organizing Committee. 3 The Jury will evaluate the photographs of the Competition in the scope of the Biodiversity theme, according to criteria of aesthetic, technical and content quality and meeting the definition in this regulation. Article 5 (Contest Categories) 1 The theme of the Contest is the wildlife, approached from the point of view of its aesthetics, the technical quality of photography and its conservation message and protection of the values of biodiversity. 2 The categories foreseen in this Competition are: a) Birds b) Other Fauna c) Flora and fungi d) Landscapes and natural habitats 3 Only works that deal with wild fauna and flora will be accepted. 4 In the category "Landscapes and natural habitats", images that focus on humanized landscapes or predominate elements with anthropogenic origin will not be accepted.
Article 6 (Admission of photographs to the Competition) 1 The Contest accepts: a) Photographs / pictures in digital format with the following requirements: i. Jpeg image format ii. Minimum size of 3000 pixels in the largest measurement b) Photographs that do not contain author's signature, watermarks, frames or identification in metadata c) Photographs submitted within the deadline defined for the Competition d) Photographs of any geographical origin e) Photographs included in the categories of the Competition described in the article 5 of this regulation 2 Photographs that deal with domesticated species will not be accepted. 3 Photographs of animals that are subject to captivity for the preparation of photographic works shall also not be admitted. 4 Photographs that address issues related to the conservation of wild species and which address a theme about the potential threats to its existence and which reinforce the message of awareness for the need for its preservation are admitted to the Contest. 5 The photographs referred to in the point 4 of this article are included in the categories defined in point 2 of the article 5.
6 Photographs that have been submitted in other editions and Photography Competitions organized by the Entities referred to in this regulation are not allowed. Article 7 (Registration and submission of photographs to the Competition) 1 The participation in the Contest is free of charge and open to any Participant. 2 Each Participant may submit a maximum of two (2) photographs for each of the categories provided in the Competition. However, each Participant may only be awarded by one work per category. 3 Participation in the Contest presupposes the obligatory of complete and submits the electronic registration form available on the official website of the Festival (www.fiin.pt), as well as the inclusion of all elements and files requested. 4 The Participant is responsible for all costs associated with the participation and submission of the photographs in this Contest. 5 The Participants undertake to assign to the organizing entities, the right to exhibit, publish or reproduce part or all of the works, always safeguarding the indication of the author, according to article 40 of the CDADC Code of Copyright and Rights Related. 6 The Participants are responsible for the originality of the works presented, guarantee their authorship and assume all responsibility for claims of third parties with respect to copyright and related rights.
7 Participants must keep the original version of the photographs presented in the Contest, in a high resolution file, and the Organizing Committee may request the submission of the original at any stage of the Contest. Article 8 (Deadlines) 1 The Competition runs from March 1 to June 30, 2018. 2 The Organizing Committee will inform by e-mail the Participants that they are selected to join the Biodiversity Photography Exhibition until October 19, 2018. 3 The public announcement of the winners of the Competition will take place at the Final Gala of the International Festival of Nature Image (FIIN), on November 18, 2018. Article 9 (Awards) 1 The prizes to be awarded by category are the following: a) 1st prize 400 euros b) 2nd prize 150 euros c) 3rd prize 100 euros 2 A "Carvalho Araújo" prize of 500.00 (five hundred euros) is also awarded to the photograph chosen by the Jury as the best photograph of the 2018 Contest. This prize is not accumulated with the prizes mentioned in number 1 of the Article 9.
Article 10 (Final dispositions) 1 Participation in the Competition presupposes the full acceptance of this Regulation. 2 The Organizing Committee reserves the right to consider and decide on any matter not covered by this regulation. 3 Decisions of the Organizing Committee and the Jury are final and irrevocable, and no appeal shall be lodged. 4 It is forbidden to participate in the contest of members of the Organizing Entities, as well as of the members that are part of the Jury of the Competition.
