who we are Like many small business success stories, Barn Light Electric began as a part-time hobby. With a passion for antique light fixtures, Bryan and Donna Scott would search through antique stores, attend estate sales, and even poke into abandoned buildings looking for vintage lights to restore. They enjoyed restoring American-made barn lighting because of the high-quality craftsmanship that went into manufacturing these vintage fixtures. But like so many things, vintage barn lighting faded away when less expensive manufacturing techniques came into fashion. Bryan and Donna decided to make their own line of barn lighting the old-fashioned way using only the highest quality, commercial-grade materials. They found that others shared their passion for vintage lighting and the demand for their fixtures soon exceeded the resources of their back-yard barn. Early in 2008, the couple left their professional careers to manage the business full time. The growth of Barn Light Electric has been remarkable considering the growth came during one of the worst economic periods in our country s history. In 2010, Bryan and Donna built a second, larger retail facility and warehouse, and in 2012, launched their own porcelain enamel manufacturing facility a process that hasn t been seen in this country for more than 50 years. Having grown up in the shadow of the Kennedy Space Center in a time when American ingenuity meant everything to this community, the Scotts know first-hand what hard work and imagination can do. They have built a viable business, shared their success along the way with worthy causes, and revived a manufacturing technique that produces high-quality lighting that will last a lifetime for their customers.
Behind the Scenes A glimpse into the manufacturing process at Barn Light Electric shows metal artisans, enamelers, powder coaters, and assemblers taking a hands-on approach to each and every step in the process to produce the highest quality products for our customers. Our unique lights start as a flat disc of commercialgrade steel that is hand spun by our metal artisans to create the desired shape for each shade. This hands-on process lends each shade its own distinctive character. After the shade is created, it is sprayed with either a powder coat finish or porcelain enamel glass in the desired color. Porcelain enamel shades are then baked in a special high-temperature oven to seal the enamel for a high-gloss finish that will never fade or corrode. Each light is finished by hand by our assemblers who take the utmost care to provide the exact options specified on each order. Your new light comes ready to hang!
