Products for tomorrow s operations Tenaris performs research on and development of new products for the oil and gas industry, including customized OCTG and line pipe products for high pressure/high temperature wells, sour service and deep and ultra-deep water applications around the world. Metallurgy Tenaris s global R&D network is equipped for the development of basic and applied research in the fields of metallurgy, metallurgical analysis of new and already existing production processes, analysis of the metallurgical performance of steel products and research on new steel grades. We develop sour service and sweet corrosion resistant products through basic research on corrosion mechanisms and alloy design as well as manufacturing process design, focused on the optimization of the heat treatment process and the control of microstructural transformations. This allows Tenaris to supply the market with products that offer outstanding performance in even the harshest operating environments. Fracture Mechanics & Structural Integrity Tenaris takes advantage of modern equipment for the testing and characterization of materials in the field of fracture mechanics to study the structural integrity of seamless and welded tubular products. Our R&D network uses state-of-the-art equipment for the development of basic and applied knowledge in the field of structural integrity. We apply the most advanced methods of material properties analysis for new products and predict their behavior when used in specific oil fields.

Welding Technology Tenaris s R&D network is focused on developing optimal solutions in welding technology. Our centers are prepared to simulate the diverse conditions that exist in the field, a capability required to understand product behavior and supply the market with reliable materials and updated technologies. The laboratory simulates welding processes, taking into consideration onshore and offshore installation environments, pre-production conditions and situations where fatigue, corrosion and mechanical resistance are required. The area has a complete set of welding process equipment. Premium Connections Tenaris has the design capabilities and know-how required to develop premium connections and weld-on connectors able to perform in even the hardest operating environments. The R&D network utilizes state-of-theart computational and experimental tools to conduct tests that verify the quality of our products and simulate the specific conditions in the oil field where they will be run, according to the most stringent international standards. Tenaris s comprehensive range of premium connections include the Blue Series, Wedge Series 500, Wedge Series 600, and TenarisXP Series. Our innovative achievements result from the combination of our deep expertise on mechanical design, coatings and tribology as well as our understanding of the field needs. Coatings and Surfaces Tenaris develops and optimizes different types of surface treatments or coatings based on metallic or polymeric materials. Led by nanotechnology and conversion coatings experts, Tenaris s global team expands the possibilities to develop innovative solutions for tubular products with new and enhanced properties through significant process improvements in tools and manufacturing devices. Our laboratories prepare surfaces and apply several types of coatings, paints and other products to provide protection against corrosion and abrasion, or other industry needs. We define which is the most suitable material for each application and product, such as thermal, anti-corrosion or anti-abrasive coatings. Non-Metallic Materials Tenaris produces polymer-based goods such as thread protectors, thermal insulation coatings and sucker rod centralizers, as well as composite materials that combine the mechanical properties of steel with the functionalities of fiber reinforced systems. These products add value to the solutions that Tenaris offers to oil and gas companies. Our research lines on non-metallic materials are continuously expanding and analyzing the industry s need for new products and developments.
Strengthening the core of our industry Tenaris invests US$ 80 million annually in R&D activities. We upgrade and improve production processes in areas that are key to the oil and gas industry. Steelmaking Tenaris is always looking for ways to enhance the fundamental process in the tubular products business. Through an examination of primary operations, continuous casting and ladle metallurgy, the area helps to guarantee the quality of our base materials and looks to improve the line s efficiency and produce greater steel cleanliness. Furnaces & Heat transfer Tenaris works to achieve a heating quality necessary to produce steel tubes with the required mechanical properties tolerances. The area strives to obtain the maximum productivity compatible with quality requirements while diminishing energy consumption and material waste to minimize the environmental footprint. Refractories The R&D network investigates wear evaluation, failure mechanics and hightemperature interaction of fracture materials for steelmaking with the aim of minimizing the degree of in-service refractory damage and optimizing product design.

Rolling Technology Tenaris performs research activities on the hot rolling process, key in the manufacturing of rolling pipes. Highly sophisticated numerical modeling is used to optimize the rolling process, focused on dimensional tolerances and surface quality. We are constantly looking for opportunities to develop new tool designs and minimize our energy consumption. We develop models for rolling process. Additionally, tribology is another important field of research. Non-Destructive Inspection Tenaris provides innovation in ultrasonic, electromagnetic, thermography and other existing NDT technologies through the use of advanced modeling and laboratory testing in order to expand and improve product inspection. We research, develop and adapt novel NDT technologies not yet available in the market and support the standardization of technologies and best practices in NDT processes based on our global vision. Full-scale laboratories With the most sophisticated testing equipment worldwide in its field, Tenaris s full-scale testing laboratories carry out testing that simulates the extreme load conditions Tenaris products are exposed to in the field. Tenaris s laboratories are equipped to carry out simulation testing of octg products, such as compression and tension loads combined with bending, extreme temperatures and internal and external pressures. We have the equipment to conduct make-and-break tests as well as fatigue analyses of plain end, girth joints or threaded pipes on full-scale specimens. We also perform full-scale tests on steel tubular products to examine collapse and bursts. Our Tenaris sucker rods are submitted to our numerous fatigue and ultimate torsion load tests. Fatigue response for casing and connection devoted to casing while drilling operations are also tested in focused high-speed resonant fatigue machines. Precision Measurement Systems Tenaris develops high accuracy tools for the precise measurement of critical product parts using advanced vision, laser metrology and 3D computing tools. Our aim is to certify the products dimensional compliance and improve the manufacturing process.

Dopeless technology Dopeless technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections at Tenaris mills, eliminating the need for thread compounds. By doing so, Dopeless coating makes operations more efficient, lessening the environmental footprint and minimizing risks and costs for E&P operators. Premium connections TenarisHydril premium connections have been designed to meet the challenges of the most demanding E&P onshore and offshore operations. Our comprehensive range of premium connections include the Blue Series, Wedge Series 500, Wedge Series 600, and TenarisXP Series, which have been field proven and tested under the highest industry standards. Steel Grades Tenaris provides a complete range of proprietary steel grades for all kinds of oil and gas operations. We produce steel grades with performance properties that surpass those indicated by the API. Tenaris manufactures high collapse, deep well service, low temperature, high ductility and thermal service proprietary steel grades for superior mechanical properties.
BLUEDOCK CONNECTOR Tenaris is the first pipe manufacturer to offer weld-on connectors for surface and conductor casing. They feature easy stabbing and trouble-free make-up, alongside 100% ratings in tension, compression and bending. The BlueDock connector, the first connector of the series, has been subjected to make-and-break and sealability tests based on API 5C5/ ISO 13679 standards. BlueRod Premium Sucker Rod Tenaris produces the BlueRod premium sucker rod for beam pumping. With a remarkably resistant connection designed for high loads, the proprietary BlueRod improves the rod s fatigue life and ensures excellent field performance. BlueCoil technology Experts in metallurgy developed the BlueCoil technology, a product that defies performance limitations caused by fatigue, ballooning and sour exposure, increasing the product s life span and expanding its capabilities in more complex environments.
