We have a full schedule of activities planned for this next quarter. So do not miss out. Our fall and Christmas fabric is coming in. (Check out the photos on the back page.) Start those Christmas projects now! Why not sign up to come to one of our sew dates and get a head start. Be inspired by fellow quilters. Our class calendar is FULL of new projects. We are offering more small projects this time. Come, learn the technique. Since projects are small, you can finish them for yourself or for gifts. Less UFOs! One of staples of summer is the SHOP HOP. Don't miss out on the Illiana Quilter's Shop Hop this year (July 3 th August 8 th ). We are one of the 0 shops in this HOP. Our theme this year is Celebrating Service in honor of all those who serve or have served our country. Each shop has designed a different star block. Then every shop set the 0 blocks into a unique quilt using the Love and Glory fabric line from Marcus. Each shop will give their free star pattern to all passport holders and will offer a kit for their star block as well as a finishing kit for their quilt layout. Star patterns and block kits must be picked up at each shop during the hop. To see the quilts go to the Shop Hop website (http:// www.illianashophop.com/) BUT better yet go to each shop and see the quilts...plus shop. If you purchase a passport for $5 you will receive 5% off all your purchases of /2 yard cuts or more on 0regular price fabric. If you do the math...spend $35.00 and you get your $5 back! Get your passport stamped at all 0 shops and you may win the grand prize! Wow, a prize for shopping, it s a win-win situation. Another summer treat is the Row by Row Experience. This began in 20 with 20 quilt shops in NY State. In 202 it grew to include 62 shops in NY. In 203 PA joined for a total of 38 shops. In 204, 250 shops, 34 states and Email: topshelfquilts@yahoo.com Ontario joined. This year all 50 states and Canada are in - for a total of 2800+ shops. Top Shelf Quilts has joined the fun. The Row by Row theme this year is H2O - WATER. Each shop has created a ROW. There are no passports or fees. The patterns are free (one per customer) but you must pick them up IN the shop. Kits for each row are available for purchase. Collect your patterns, make your quilts with at least 8 different rows, quilt it bind it, label it and be the first bring it into a participating shop to win a stack of 25 fat quarters. July Happenings Beginning Patchwork Quilting: Simple Sampler w/chris Always wanted to learn to quilt? How about starting with a simple 9 or 2 block sampler? Come and learn the basics of machine piecing, quilting lingo, and basic machine quilting to make a wall quilt or quilted throw-size patchwork sampler. Lots of basic information will be discussed in class and you will have homework! Be sure your sewing machine is in good working order. Come and join the fun. After this 5 session workshop you will have a finished quilt, as well as the skills to complete any patchwork quilt you have been dreaming about making! Join the Needle and Thread Stitchers at Top Shelf Quilts and bring your latest appliqué, embroidery, or hand quilting project. We all love to do quilt-related hand stitching with our friends! Come and sew with those old friends and at the same time make some new ones. We meet at the shop the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM. This is not a class, but a social sewing bee for those of us who love to stitch by hand. See you then! The Creative Grids Wonky Trim Square Ruler is used to create the tilted effect. The pattern is included in class fee. Thursday, July 6, 205, :00 - :30 Sunday, July 9, 205, 2:00-2:30 Cost: $25.00 Tools & Techniques of the Month: Shape Cut, Charming 5 Square Template and Hatchet Template by Creative Grid w/pam Pam will demonstrate 3 rulers: the Shape Cut for cutting yardage into Charm Squares & Jelly Rolls, the Charming 5 Square Template which cuts 2 ½ x 5 rectangles, 2 ½ squares and centers featured prints and the Charming 5 Square Hatchet Template which cuts pieces to sew into 5 pieced blocks. August Happenings Coffee Filter Fan Quilt w/paula Did you ever want to make a fan quilt or pillow with that classic pattern? Paula will teach you a super simple way to do it using coffee filters as your foundation paper. There are NO set in seams and NO curved piecing. You will also discover how to finish the base of the fans with a triangle for a VERY easy, no fail fan. There is also a simple way to attach the fan to the background square. Use your scraps or 2 /2 inch strips. EASY...I PROMISE! August Happenings Continued Tools & Techniques of the Month: Tumbler Single Strip Ruler w/pam Pam will demonstrate the Tumbler Single Strip Ruler by Creative Grids. This unique ruler is designed to cut /2 or 2 /2 strips on the straight edge and 2 finished tumblers on the tumbler edge. All cutting is done from strip sets. Multiple layers can be cut at the same time. Using 5 squares and the Lil Twister tool will create larger finished products, while using 3 /2 squares and the Primitive Pinwheels Tool will create smaller ones. Great for beginners. Saturday, August 29, 205, :00-3:00 Cost: $40.00 Triangle Frenzy Table Runners w/barb Choose one of the three Triangle Frenzy table runner patterns (Runner, Hexagon, Swirl), a border print with at least four repeats and a 60 degree ruler to create an interesting runner or topper. Border print designs may use all four stripes, portions of 2-3 stripes, or one long strip. Narrower strips will require less fabric and make a smaller runner. Saturday, September 2, 205, :30-3:30 Wednesday, September 6, 205, :00 - :00 Cost: $20.00 Operation Christmas Stockings, Year 2 w/pam Join Top Shelf Quilts in helping Operation Care Package again reach their goal of 9,000+ Christmas stockings for our troops. Last year we were able to donate 830+ stockings. Can we do that again? We are going to begin early. We will sew the stockings. Then the stockings will be stuffed at Operation Care Package with treats for our deployed troops. Complete kits will be ready for you at the shop as of September 7th. Kits will include instructions, fabric and trim to make two stockings and can be completed on your own. You are invited to Christmas Stocking Sew Days at TSQ, the first of which will be September 7th. (More date to follow.) Bring your machine and sewing tools. Stay a couple of hours or stay all day.
