Meet Katherine Pensions Actuarial Right from the start LCP took a personal approach to the application and interview process, and that continued throughout the entire experience. I first heard about LCP at a recruitment talk at university, and was so impressed by the representatives that I immediately applied for the Pensions Actuarial summer internship. After a previous internship I was already looking for an actuarial career, and nine weeks seemed like a great opportunity to see if LCP s environment was a fit for me, and me, it! Right from the start LCP took a personal approach to the application and interview process, and that continued throughout the entire experience. I had detailed training over the first two weeks and on the job coaching throughout the summer, as well as being assigned a buddy who encouraged as many questions as I could ask! The range of work - from individual member calculations to drafting reports, to data work for whole scheme valuations - really developed my insight into the actuarial profession, and there was a good balance between achievable and challenging projects. Katherine Rumsey The team were very welcoming and friendly and LCP have a lot to offer socially too. During my internship I had a welcome social with the entire department, team socials, weekly pub trips and played in a cricket match against a client. There was always an opportunity to get involved in something fun and interesting and meet more people across the departments!

Meet Peter Investment LCP in particular is excellent at encouraging applications from a wide range of academic backgrounds. I joined LCP s office as a summer intern for a period of nine weeks. After some initial training sessions on the tools of how to do the job and the wider background to a lot of what LCP does, I was given real client work to do. I conducted asset valuations, drafted quarterly performance reports and got involved with a variety of ad-hoc requests for clients ranging from schools to FTSE 100 companies. The depth and variety of work was something that I particularly appreciated over the summer. Outside of client work, I was able to work on in-house projects. I created tools for the department including models to analyse theoretical performance. I also attended research meetings with fund managers managing a variety of different asset classes which was an invaluable learning experience in the world of investment. Working with LCP was, and is, a great experience. People are friendly from day one and there are always activities happening outside of work that anyone can get involved with. Peter Maile At the end of my internship we gave a presentation on an investment topic of our choice, which proved to me just how much I had learned during my summer. Another huge benefit of the internship was being invited back to join as a graduate after I finished my degree. This meant that I was able to focus on my last year of studies without worrying about having to find a job; knowing that I had a great one lined up!

Meet Lydia Pensions Actuarial The work was interesting and challenging and I felt as though I was contributing to the team from day one. I completed a summer internship in LCP s Pensions Actuarial department during my penultimate year at university. I decided to spend my summer working at LCP because I was impressed by all the personal and professional development opportunities available and because it seemed like it would be a really great place to work. The interview process was much less stressful than other assessment days I attended (it was actually enjoyable!) and this meant that I had no hesitation in choosing LCP over their competitors. The internship was structured very well and I thoroughly enjoyed my nine weeks in Winchester. We were provided with an introductory week of training that really helped me gain confidence before taking on work within the office. The work was interesting and challenging and I felt as though I was contributing to the team from day one. I was able to work on a variety of different clients and learnt so much about the pensions industry and the services LCP offers its clients across all its departments; it was a real insight into the actuarial profession and confirmed that it was the career path that I wanted to pursue. Lydia Dutton Winchester Alongside enjoying the work, I also really appreciated all the social opportunities available at LCP: I attended the LCP Summer Ball, a team trip to an escape room, and the office sports day, as well as other ad-hoc events. I gained so much from my nine weeks in terms of technical skills and personal development; and also a graduate job offer which I happily accepted.

Meet Ernest Investment The summer internship was a great gateway into understanding the role... From the start of my internship, I immediately felt like I was part of the team and got involved in a lot of interesting client work. This helped me to get a broad experience of the various asset classes that a pension scheme might invest in and LCP s role in advising clients. I was also given research projects to work on, which helped me to better grasp some of the key investment concepts. I particularly enjoyed the balance of research and client work that I did as it was good to see how one was relevant to the other. I thought the support that I received while working was second to none. I was assigned a buddy who I could turn to at any time when I needed help with tasks. Going into a working environment with no prior experience in the industry was initially very daunting but the team quickly made it very manageable for me as they were always happy to answer any questions I had. LCP gave me a brilliant introduction into the industry. The summer internship was a great gateway into understanding the role and importance of investment in pension schemes and I would recommend it to anyone interested. Ernest Appleby Winchester

Meet Simon Business Analytics & Financial Modelling...I had no coding experience when I joined LCP, and within a few weeks I was able to develop an auction simulator for use with a client. My summer internship in the Business Analytics and Financial Modelling department was a great experience. I hadn t heard much about Business Analytics before I came across LCP, but the work seemed interesting and I thought an eight week internship would be a great way to find out more. I worked in the energy analytics team and without any prior knowledge of energy markets there was a lot to learn. However, I was assigned a buddy to help me settle in and I could also approach anyone in the team with any questions I had. I came to realise how quickly you can pick things up when you are surrounded by lots of smart, capable people. For instance I had no coding experience when I joined LCP, and within a few weeks I was able to develop an auction simulator for use with a client. After that, I developed a stochastic model of commodity prices which is still being used in client work today. It was really rewarding being given that much responsibility and also being able to put into practice some of the things I had learnt at university. Simon Harkness Aside from work there were regular team socials, a touch rugby team and on the last day of my internship we had the company wide summer party at Zoo. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my summer internship so I was really pleased to be offered a graduate position and since then I ve continued to find LCP a great place to work.

Meet Anokhi Insurance I felt at home right away and everybody in the team was very welcoming and easy to talk to. My summer at LCP was a very enjoyable experience and convinced me that a career in actuarial consulting would be right for me. During my time at LCP, I felt at home right away because I was assigned a buddy who helped me settle in, and everybody in the team was very welcoming and easy to talk to. I was able to work on a variety of different clients including managing agents, medical indemnifiers and motor insurers. Day to day work I was involved in included basic reserving and pricing calculations, learning and then using our internal reserving software, and designing charts for presentations and reports. Being able to work on a wide range of clients meant that I also had the opportunity to work with most of the team and get to know them better. This made it an easy decision to accept the job offer at the end of the summer. As well as enjoying the work, there were plenty of opportunities to socialise out of the office. Whilst at LCP I became a member of the netball team and trained with them weekly. I also attended the annual summer party which was held at Lord s cricket ground. Both of these were great ways to meet people at LCP and made the whole experience complete. Anokhi Patel Overall I really enjoyed my summer at LCP and would highly recommend the experience to anyone thinking of becoming an actuary.
