Antenna for AutoAnchor 710 Installation Instructions

AA710 Console AA702A Antenna Base Station AA727 Antenna The AA727 antenna is designed for use with the AA710 remote radio control system only. It will not operate with, and should not be connected to, any other product. The antenna is connected to the AA702A base station to allow transmission from the AA710 hand held console to the base station. The antenna is required where the base station has been fitted below carbon fibre, steel, alloy or where the superstructure impedes the reception. It can be surface or pole mounted. There is no set up required beyond the installation of the antenna in a suitable location on the boat and then plugging it into the outlet on the AA702A base station. If you have already fitted the AA702 base station without an antenna plug please contact your supplier for a replacement unit (AA702A Part # 9405) if you require an antenna. To the best of our knowledge the information in this manual was correct at the time of printing. Modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the user s authority to operate this equipment. This device generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. ESTI Information (CE): This device is compliant with the essential requirements of the R&TTE Directive 99/5/EC, meeting the European harmonized EMC and low-voltage/safety standards. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) FCC Information: This device complies with CFR47 Part 15 of FCC Rules for Class B equipment. ESTI Information (CE): This device meets the relevant standards set out in European Standard EN 60945:2002 for maritime navigation and radio communication equipment and systems. These standards are intended to provide reasonable protection against interference by other emission generating products on the boat. Compliance with these standards is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. The installation instructions must be followed to minimise the potential for interference. All AA710 equipment must be installed at least 3 ft (1m) away from any equipment transmitting or cables carrying radio signals eg VHF radios, modified sine wave inverters, cables and antennas or radar antennas; and at least 6 ft (2m) away from any SSB equipment. All cables must be installed at least 1.5 ft (500mm) away from such items. 2

IMPORTANT It is the owner s sole responsibility to install and use the AA710 system and the antenna in a manner that will not cause accidents, personal injury or property damage. The user of this product is solely responsible for observing safe boating practices. Installation: If installation is not correct, the unit can not perform at its designed potential. If in doubt, consult your AutoAnchor dealer. Ensure that any holes made are in a safe position and will not weaken the boat s structure. If in doubt, consult a qualified boat builder. All installations must be carried out in accordance with USCG, ABYC, NMMA and BMEA requirements. The manufacturer and suppliers of the AA710 system and antenna accept no liability for personal inujury or property damage resulting from the failure to follow the installation and operation instructions or the use of the product in a way that may cause accidents, damage or that may violate the law. PARTS LIST AA727 Antenna Unit with 10m (32.8ft) cable attached - Part # 9403 Gasket (doubles as mounting template) 4 threaded rods: thread M4 x 40 mm (2 ) 4 washers 4 nuts For Pole Mounting: Pole mount cone - Part # 9407 4 screws Surface Mount Standard Kit Also Available: Extension Cable 10 m (32.8 ft) - Part # 9406. CHOOSING A SUITABLE LOCATION FOR THE ANTENNA Pole Mount Mount the antenna so that it is not blocked by large parts of the superstructure. It can be installed under glass, perspex, fibreglass or fabric, but not under steel, alloy or carbon fibre. The antenna must be installed at least 3 ft (1m) away from any equipment transmitting or cables carrying radio signals eg VHF radios, modified sine wave inverters, cables and antennas or radar antennas or SSB equipment. The antenna cable must be at least 1.5 ft (500mm) away from such items. Do not mount the antenna where it can be used as a hand hold, where it will interfere with the operation of the boat or where it might be submerged. Mount the antenna within the connection range of the cable in its final secured position, keeping the cable away from sources of electrical signals or noise and ensuring the cable is not pinched or crushed. 3

Best Reception Top and Sides Mount to ensure best reception as per the diagram MOUNTING The standard antenna is surface mounted. If you need to pole mount the antenna use the cone supplied. Surface Mounted Pole Mounted Use the cone supplied. SURFACE MOUNTING Select a suitable location which allows access for affixing nuts and has a suitable mounting surface. Avoid high traffic areas where the antenna may be a tripping hazard. Ensure that any holes made are in a safe position and will not weaken the boat s structure. If in doubt, consult a qualified boat builder. 1. Clean the surface where the antenna will be mounted. 2. Peel the back off one side of the gasket and stick the gasket in the final mounting position. 3. Using the gasket as a template, drill four 4 mm (5/32 ) holes. 4

4. The cable may either pass through the surface the antenna is mounted on, or exit the side of the antenna: 4A. If passing cable through the surface, drill an 18 mm (23/32 ) hole for the connector. 4B. If exiting the side of the antenna, remove three plastic tabs, then seal cable into place with silicon. Ensure that the channel is filled with silicone to provide a seal when gasket is in place. Fill with silicone Gasket 5. Attach the four threaded pins to the antenna. 6. Peel the plastic off the gasket. 7. Place antenna in final position. 8. Attach the four nuts to the threaded rod. Do not overtighten. 9. Attach to AA702 Base Station then secure the cable at regular intervals. 5 Antenna Plug

POLE MOUNTING Use the cone supplied if you wish to pole mount the antenna. Attach only to 1 (25.4 mm) diameter pole with a thread of 14 TPI UNB. Thread the cable through the pole mount adaptor. Position the pole mount adaptor onto the antenna, using the positioning tabs. Positioning tabs Attach with the four screws provided, do not overtighten. The cable may pass through the pole, or exit the side of the antenna. See instructions for surface mounting. Screw onto the pole. Do not overtighten. Attach to the AA702A Base Station, then secure the cable at regular intervals. Antenna Plug CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Clean the antenna with a damp cloth or mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, petrol or other solvents. When repainting the surrounding area, cover the antenna with masking to protect from paint. Do not paint the antenna. 6
