Class fees are due at time of registration. There is a registration form at the bottom of this catalogue. You may also register by phone 315 646-3502. Checks may be mailed to Sackets Harbor Arts Center, PO Box 237, Sackets Harbor, NY 13685. Occasionally we need to cancel a class due to low enrollment. If a class is cancelled students will be notified and fully refunded. If a student needs to withdraw from a class they may do so and receive a full refund up to two weeks before the class begins. If a student fails to show up for a class no refund is granted. As a courtesy to our instructors who travel from all over NY State to teach at our Arts Center please follow these guidelines as closely as possible. We have a great assortment of classes this summer at Sackets Harbor Arts Center: drawing, painting using many different mediums, creative writing, and experimental processes. Please note that some classes are for all ages, others exclusively for kids or adults/teens. And also note that in some classes all supplies are included, and other classes may require the student to bring their own supplies. We have something to offer everyone this summer and look forward to seeing you at The Sackets Harbor Arts Center!

PAINT EARLY SUMMER EN PLEIN AIR ALLA PRIMA Instructor: Barbara Jablonski June 12, 13, & 14, 9:00 am 3:30 pm Any medium can be used, please bring your own, demo s will be in oils. Limited easels available. Supplies provided for minimal fees. Fee: $235 AANNY members, $250 non-members This comprehensive course launches artists into the adventures of painting out of doors en plein air by teaching the techniques of alla prima plein air painting with an early summer color palette. While using rice paper, pen, watercolor pigment and wax, you will experience a unique way of watercolor painting by building up richly colored layers of paint and wax to create beautiful images. This prompt-based workshop will use writing exercises to help you generate ideas while learning new techniques and skills for shaping your Clay narratives. Participants will leave with several short new pieces started and/or drafted. Participants are welcome to take one or both classes. And more $20 1 child $30 2 siblings

All supplies will be furnished to complete a landscape painting that concentrates on rocks and trees. Draw a Backyard Bird in Graphite Pencil Instructor: Sue delearie Adair July 14-15, **2-day 10:00 am 12:30 pm Fee: $72 AANNY members, $80 non-members Skill Level: beginner to intermediate Join Sue for two mornings of drawing your favorite backyard birds. Sue will provide several references for you to choose from including Chickadees and Nuthatches. We will review basic drawing techniques and then concentrate on how to create realistic drawings of wild birds using graphite pencils. You should leave the class with a completed drawing and better knowledge of how to draw birds. An emphasis will be placed on value studies and their importance in completing a successful painting. We ll use tracing paper to draw thumbnails, trace the original image and then paint from our value study. Special Event: July 29, A Day On The River with Artists Regular Admiralty Islands Boat tour leaves docks 11:30am 3:30pm Plein Air Artist boat leaves dock: 9:00am 3:30pm Intro to Watercolor Techniques Instructor: Paul Allen Taylor July 31, 1:00 pm 5:00 pm **Material Kits: add $15.00 This class will associate the student with the basic applications of watercolor, how to work with the medium in the fluid state and control it to act as one wishes. Textures and shapes will be the leading topic of this class where students learn to identify and create everyday shapes with watercolor. Small practice paintings will be done to illustrate these applications.

This class will combine drawing on watercolor paper with ink line utilizing a whittled match stick. Afterwards, the drawing will then be painted with watercolor. This process makes working with and making a watercolor painting easier while making the line become part of the overall look. A variety of demonstrations will be given that the students then attempt to repeat. ***Check this process out on u-tube: Paul Allen Taylor Working with Matchstick and Ink An Introduction to Soft Pastels & the Art of Pastel Painting Instructor: Greg Trombly August 3, 4, & 5, (3-days) 1:00 pm 4:00 pm *** come to 1, 2 or all 3 days Fee: $45 AANNY members, $50 non-members (per day) Supply list: 1set at least 24 soft pastels (not oil Pastels), #2 drawing pencil, 14 x 16 Masonite or drawing board, masking tape or clips, good pastel paper sized 11 x 14 multiple colors are fine. Skill Level: Adult beginner This course held over 3 days is designed to be an introduction for adults to using soft pastels in creating works of art from reference photos. A demonstration will be done by instructor each day. A focus will be placed on composition, color and value. All ability levels are welcome. A relaxed approach will be used for all to discover the magic of pastels! Day 1: Landscape/Seascape, Day 2: The Sunset Sky, Day 3: The Rockscape and Vegetation. August Creating Atmosphere in Your Watercolors Instructor: Joan Applebaum August 8-9, 10:00 am 1:00 pm ** 2-day course Fee: $67 AANNY members, $75 non-members Skill level: Intermediate (some Watercolor required) Adults/Teen 14+ Stormy skies, soft misty mornings and shimmering sunlight on the water are all effects that you will learn in this class geared for students with some previous Watercolor experience. Color temperature and the push/pull of warm and cool colors as well as some experimental techniques will be explored as students work with Watercolor on various smooth and textured surfaces. Students are encouraged to bring a snack as we will have a short break halfway through the class. All supplies provided. Intermediate Watercolor w/rice Paper Instructor: Eileen Ditch August 10, 9:00am - 12:00 pm Students will learn the beauty of using rice paper to create a textured watercolor. We'll wrinkle and crinkle, then paint. Actual painting will be done on rice paper/watercolor paper that's supplied for the days class. Subject matter can be flowers or landscapes. Inked Tiles! August 11, 11:00 am 1:00 pm Fee: $35 AANNY members, $45 non-members Skill Level: knowledge of inking Adults/Kids 11+ We will be learning to ink 6x6 tiles with a pretty scene and then using epoxy to put on hangers. Then we will cork the back of it so you can hang it on the wall. Inked Glass! Aug 11, 2:00 pm 4:00 pm Fee: $35 AANNY members, $45 non-members And no skill level required. We will be inking candleholders/vases. Adults/Kids 11+ Oil Painting w/ Jerry Instructor: Jerry Merrill ** 2-days Aug 12, 2:00pm 5:00pm and Aug 16, 6:00pm 9:00pm Fee: $30 AANNY members, $40 non-members Learn to mix colors and compare values while painting a landscape. Students can start a painting on Aug 12 and either finish or start another painting on Aug 16.
