BACKGROUND Under the visionary leadership of Hon ble Dr. Navin Sheth Vice chancellor, GTU Innovation Council (GIC) has organized Patent clinic to assist and motivate CiC3 Prototypes/Projects to decide whether their projects are patentable or not. If the projects are patentable, then drafting and filing the Provisional Patent applications is the second objective. GTU has successfully organized two days workshop on Patent Search, Drafting & Filing (Patent Clinic) at GTU Chandkheda campus, Ahmedabad on 22 & 23 April 2017 (Saturday and Sunday). It s a unique initiative started by GIC to provide all possible assistance to students and faculty members from any branch of science or technology, to file patent for his/her innovative work or project. Patent Clinic is a two days workshop in which GIC organizes seminars and workshops on basics of IPR/Patents, Patent Prior Art Search Techniques and its importance, Patenting System in India and hands on exercises to draft patents. Patent searching through different online databases were conducted during this program. Participants were given hands on training of patent searching through various free ( Open Source soft-wares - GOOGLE PATENT, WIPO, ESPACENET, IP ) As Well As Paid Databases ( License Software - PATSEER). After an intensive exercise during the two days and about 80 participants found their 19 projects as novel, innovative and patentable and filed for provisional patents. PROGRAMME& DISCUSSION During these two days workshop, on Day-1 intensive Patent search was done with the help of experts. On Day-2, whosoever's invention is novel one, drafting and filing of Provisional application was done with help of experts. Experts and coordinators at the Patent Clinic explained the required process of patent filing, as required by Govt. of India. Then they helped the registrants in filing the patent forms. More than 80 Participants with their 19 prototypes have actively participated in this entire day event. Mr. Gaurav Soni, Registered Patent Agent, LLB, delivered a talk on Patent System in India and Patent Search & Demonstrate the use of Patent Search Database. Mr. HemalNayak, Assistant Professor, Gujarat Technological University (GTU), delivered a talk on Patent Search using Open Source Database. He guided students regarding how to search relevant patents through freely available various online databases like Espacenet, Google Patent & IP etc. along with some examples. Mr. Raj Hakani, Assistant Professor, Gujarat Technological University (GTU), delivered a talk on Open Source software like Espacenet, WIPO etc. along with some examples. He explained about how to search for relevant patent documents along with different classification systems like IPC, CPC, etc. by using freely available patent databases. Further, Ms.KrutikaParadkar, Assistant Professor, Gujarat Technological University (GTU), delivered a talk on the Patent Search using Paid Databases like PATSEER. She also assisted the participants in the patent search process by using online paid databases. In this program, facility of Paid databases like PATSEER was arranged for all the participants for two days in both the sessions. The afternoon session was conducted on individual case studies of participant s innovative project. Mr. HemalNayak, Mr. Raj Hakani&Miss. KrutikaParadkarhelped all the participants about patent search by different tool and techniques. The participants found out the novelty and patentability of their projects by prior art search using open source as well as paid databases. DAY 1 - Intensive Patent Search Was Done 3

On Next day, Mr. Harpreetsingh Banker, Patent & Trademark Attorney, Ahmedabad, Started the session on topic of drafting and filing of patent in India & guided the Participant for drafting of the provisional application and filled all three forms like Form -1, Form-2 and Form- 3 on their innovative project. He explained the types of patent application, drafting of provisional application and key features of provisional application. Further he focused on filing of provisional application, forms and fees to be required for filing provisional application. The afternoon session was conducted on individual case studies of participant s innovative project. The participants found out the novelty and patentability of their projects by prior art search using open source as well as paid databases. Mr. HemalNayak&Miss. KrutikaParadkarfocused on hand on exercise on provisional application drafting by filing the novelty report & forms of all the case studies. Mr. Amit Patel, Assistant Professor-IPR, Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Registered Patent Agent, explained key features of provisional application and patent scope. He also brief the participants about journals & how to find out & identify new technology in upcoming market DAY 2 provisional application drafting of their innovative projects/prototypes 4
