section 6 Constructing HST units 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of 1 (3 7/8 x 3 7/8 ) (A) square. Place square, right sides together, on 1 (3 7/8 x 3 7/8 ) (J) square. Sew 1/4 away from, on right and left sides of drawn line. Cut along drawn line. Open and press to yield 2 HST units. 2. Use the procedure to make a total of: 54 A / J HST 34 B / J HST (will only use 33) 18 C / J HST (will only use 17) 10 D / J HST 44 E / J HST (will only use 43) 40 F / J HST (will only use 39) 32 G/ J HST (will only use 31) 14 H / J HST Constructing Quilt Center Section 1 1. Arrange and sew together 9 HST units to make a pieced row. Make a total of 5 pieced rows and sew rows together, as shown. 4

Quilt Assembly: 1. Inner border. Sew 2 (3 1/2 x 60 1/2 ) J strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by 2 (3 1/2 x 51 1/2 ) J strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center. 2. Outer border. Sew 2 (4 1/2 x 66 1/2 ) G strips to the opposite long sides of quilt center, followed by 2 (4 1/2 x 59 1/2 ) G strips to the remaining opposite short sides of quilt center to complete quilt top. 7
Finishing 1. Layer quilt top, batting and backing together. 2. Baste and quilt as desired. 3. Attach K binding to complete quilt. 8
