Cocoi Heron Two flyovers on Semaphore Hill Road. Great Egret Common in numerous places. Snowy Egret A few at both Gatun Locks and Juan Hombron. Little Blue Heron Some at Gatun Locks, Juan Hombron, and a few other places. Cattle Egret Common in numerous places. Green Heron Seen in numerous places. Yellow-crowned Night-Heron One seen at Juan Hombron. Boat-billed Heron Two seen at Summit Ponds, including one on nest. White Ibis A few seen at Juan Hombron. Glossy Ibis Two flew by Canopy Tower observation deck. Black Vulture Extremely common almost every day. Turkey Vulture Extremely common almost every day, sometimes thousands. Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture Quite a few at Juan Hombron. King Vulture One seen from Discovery Center tower, another at the Kaufmann House. Osprey Seen on numerous days. Gray-headed Kite One soaring very high near base of Semaphore Hill Road. Hook-billed Kite One seen from Discovery Center tower. White-tailed Kite One flew by Canopy Tower observation deck, another seen in Tocumen. Snail Kite Two seen at Discovery Center ponds, another in Tocumen. Mississippi Kite Seven flew by Kaufmann House. Plumbeous Kite One seen flying high over Ammo Ponds. Crane Hawk One scoped from Canopy Tower observation deck. Semiplumbeous Hawk One seen on Semaphore Hill Road. White Hawk Seen on four days, including at Kaufmann House. Common Black Hawk Five seen around Gatun Locks. Great Black-Hawk Seen from Discovery Center tower, also in Altos del Maria. Savanna Hawk Four seen at Juan Hombron, also in field at domestic airport in Panama City. Roadside Hawk Four seen at Juan Hombron and a few others on other days in highlands.

Swainson s Hawk Two seen from Tower observation deck, seen on two other days. Zone-tailed Hawk One seen at the Metro Park, another at Cerro Azul. Black Hawk-Eagle A few sightings, including one at Discovery Center. Ornate Hawk-Eagle One on Las Minas Trail. Barred Forest-Falcon Heard only, on Las Minas Trail. Collared Forest-Falcon One seen at Gamboa Resort. Crested Caracara Five seen at Juan Hombron. Yellow-headed Caracara Common on numerous days, including two mating at Ammo Ponds. American Kestrel A pair seen at both Gatun Locks and Juan Hombron. Aplomado Falcon One seen near nest at Juan Hombron. Bat Falcon Seen numerous days, first two perched on tower near Summit Ponds. Peregrine Falcon Pair seen at Altos del Maria, seen on two other days. White-throated Crake One seen at close range at Ammo Ponds, heard numerous days. Gray-necked Wood-Rail Seen four days, including at Ammo Ponds and road near Canopy Lodge. Purple Gallinule Seen numerous days, including with chicks at Gamboa Resort. Common Moorhen Seen numerous days, including at Discovery Center ponds. Limpkin One seen in field on Achiote Road. Southern Lapwing Very common in numerous places. Black-necked Stilt Numerous seen on flats at Panama Viejo. Wattled Jacana Numerous seen on numerous days. Spotted Sandpiper Seen on four days, including four at Gatun Locks, one at Gamboa Resort. Solitary Sandpiper One at Juan Hombron. Willet Seen on four days, including on beach at Santa Clara. Whimbrel Seen on three days, including at Santa Clara and on domestic airfield in Panama City. Short-billed Dowitcher Seen on flats at Panama Viejo. Laughing Gull Many seen in Panama City on first day on drive from airport. Black Tern Fleeting glimpse in Tocumen. Rock Pigeon Common in urban areas. Pale-vented Pigeon Seen on five days in numerous locations. Scaled Pigeon Seen on five days, including from Canopy Tower observation deck. Mourning Dove One seen at Juan Hombron. Plain-breasted Ground-Dove One seen at El Chiru. Ruddy Ground Dove Common bird seen on numerous days in numerous habitats. Blue Ground-Dove One seen at Rio Indio.

White-tipped Dove Common species seen on numerous days in numerous habitats. Gray-chested Dove Fleeting glimpse of one on Pipeline Road. Ruddy Quail-Dove One seen at La Mesa. Brown-throated Parakeet Two seen at Juan Hombron. Orange-chinned Parakeet Seen on numerous days in numerous habitats in lowlands. Blue-fronted Parrotlet Fleeting glimpses at Cerro Jefe and Altos del Maria. Brown-hooded Parrot One seen at Cerro Azul, another heard at Altos del Maria. Blue-headed Parrot Seen numerous days. Red-lored Parrot Large flocks fly in to roost at Gamboa Resort. Mealy Parrot Seen from Canopy Tower observation deck. Yellow-crowned Parrot Fleeting glimpse of some flying near Tocumen Airport. Squirrel Cuckoo Common, seen many places, including from Canopy Tower observation deck. Yellow-billed Cuckoo One seen at Ammo Ponds and five at Juan Hombron. Greater Ani Many seen in Providencia, six at Juan Hombron, and a few at the Ammo Ponds. Smooth-billed Ani Seen in numerous locations. Groove-billed Ani Seen only at Juan Hombron, where they were plentiful. Tropical Screech-Owl One seen at Cariguana. Choco Screech-Owl One flushed by Howler Monkeys on Pipeline Road, landing 10 feet from us. Spectacled Owl One seen at Cariguana. Mottled Owl Pair roosting at Canopy Lodge, others heard around Canopy Tower. Black-and-white Owl One seen and four heard one night around Canopy Tower. Common Nighthawk One seen flying by Canopy Tower on two different days. Common Potoo One roosting at Metro Park entrance, active one on Semaphore Hill Road at night. White-collared Swift Eight to ten seen flying over Canopy Lodge. Chimney Swift Some seen at tower at Discovery Center. Short-tailed Swift Numerous seen in numerous places. Band-rumped Swift Numerous seen in numerous places, including at Canopy Tower. Lesser Swallow-tailed Swift Seen on four different days, including at Canopy Tower. Rufous-breasted Hermit One seen by group leader in Rio Indio. Green Hermit Seen on a few days, including at feeders at Kaufmann House. Long-billed Hermit Seen on numerous days. Stripe-throated Hermit Seen on numerous days. White-tipped Sicklebill Seen at Canopy Adventure, also near Kaufmann House. Scaly-breasted Hummingbird One seen in Providencia. Broad-billed Motmot Seen in numerous places, including Semaphore Hill Road. Ringed Kingfisher Seen on Achiote Road, at Gamboa Resort, and other places. Belted Kingfisher One seen at Gatun Locks. Amazon Kingfisher One seen at Ammo Ponds. Green Kingfisher Seen in Providencia and at Canopy Lodge. Green-and-rufous Kingfisher One seen by guide on road to Cerro Azul.
